    If anyone wants to move this to the noob forum, feel free. But I figured any discussion about this mob shouldnt really be considered noob. Anyways here goes.

    How many ppl have killed this straight tanking ?..? It's been nearly a year since my LS last visited KRT, and the last win that long ago was pretty much all kiting. We dont rly have the BLM fire power we had back then so it is rly hard for them to keep up when kiting, for various reasons such as missing ballad, mobs running away, etc etc, you name it.

    I guess my question is, to those who have done it straight tanking, how did u efficiently deal with Vrtra spinning when she summoned. We started off straight tanking tonight with 2x PLD/NIN and 1x NIN/DRK. The 8 or so Black Mages we had were doing extremely well in keeping up with her summons while she was sitting still, but everytime she would summon she would spin, and eventually a breath wiped the tanks, and forced us to run her around, and from that point all hell broke loose because like I said before we could'nt keep up. Got to 60% or maybe a bit less before we had to drop and run.

    Just seeing if anyone has anything special they did to deal with the readjusting of her on summons. I know there has been a few linkshells to tank her straight, not many, but meh...

    Shortly after that SS is when we had to drop and run, but to that point, it was maybe 15 mins tops... She went down fast but the spinning foiled the plan entirely -.-

    Any thoughts ?

    Well, if you can't get KC DRKs, then I suppose the strat may work with just ridill DRKs, but you may need a few more.

    last try we had with straight tanking, I came rdm/drk and stunned right after every summon so the tanks would have a second to reconfigure if needed. Only real problem we had was smn problems...aka smns not moving in accordance to tanks, so have them watch for that

    Kill the pops before Vrtra gets time to do a full rotation. Usually when you run a mob through another it just spins and goes back into its original place, until you run it around even more then it'll start moving. Just kill the mobs that Vrtra pops fast, with MNKs. If you don't have MNK's, have the BLMs start casting 'aga spells on Vrtra as the summoning animation goes off.

    Hey..

    I will admit I didn't read your whole post.. I'm tired.. I just got home.. but you wanna know about straight tanking vrtra..

    ok .. first off goto http://www.ffxi-poisoned.com and look at our pics.. that should help you with positions.. if you back his ass into the wall.. he will move a little at first when summoning.. but it will stop within 2-3 moves if you get it tight in there.. we don't use /nin on plds there because its pointless.. too many ga spells.. smns hitting plds once in a bit.. not effective.. too much time spent blinking and not enough spent curing and getting hate. we use pld/drk.. we 'try' to stun sleepga II sometimes (its easy to get but we aren't sitting there just staring at log for it).. we use stun for hate.. also after charm.. sentinel+ souleater + last resort + sleep + stun + flash.. doesn't take long to take hate back.. just.. cancel soul/last resort right away . I also saw somebody said something about 17.. I can't give you an 18 person strat for vrtra yet because im still perfecting it.. right now we use 24.. 1 pld pt (pld/drk x3, whm/smn, rdm/smn, brd/whm).. and a smn pt.. whatever works there for config.. outside is 5xblm+brd (x 2 pts).. they take care of summons and room adds..

    The last win Iron did I think, was with 33 people, we straight tanked in the north east corner, head facing into the wall. we used all manor of tanks, 2 nins 3 plds and a war were there as tanks. So we did something like.. Tank Pt Smn Pt DD Pt(wars sams). Blmpt1 Blmpt2 Adds Pt. Was pretyt hard, took an hour 40, compaired to the usual hour we took pre hate patch.

    Never straight tanked it...but been wanting to try it for a while now. Is it possible to avoid flail when she summons to just have the tank pt take a few steps back after summoning to avoid flailing? Kinda like a hybrid-straight tank/kite thing?

    Kite the damn thing.... Its hard enough to deal with her spinnin around and randomly popin a flail... don't take the chance. Kitein works no matter how many ballads you cast that don't hit anyone.. The whole backin it up into a corner, high possiblity...I do see this working if its said how its done. Typing stuff on a forum is easier then expecting 20+some others to hear what your sayin... you can zerg the hell out of it when its done moving too lawl!

    Well the prblm with kiting it is you rly need alot more fire power to keep up with her summons, and we just dont have that. You need more fire power cause like I said ppl miss ballads, mobs wake up take off running in the middle of several blm's spells etc.

    No that was our main alliance on Vrtra, we have 2 parties of BLM's outside, and basically your typical MNK tp burn pt to deal with rm pops. Like I said they (the blms) kept up fine til we had to run her around.

    I wanna write more but need to get to work, I will post later when I get there.

    Go back to KI/Alla, or learn to post usefull information. Kiting is much harder now that the summons share hate with Vrtra and can't be pulled off by a BRD and taken to the BLM party for easy slaughtering. BLMs have to run all over trying to nuke the summons which means missing Ballads, as well as resting time. Summons take longer to kill, and the BLM party runs out of MP faster.

    And when exactlly is it "done moving?" Does Vrtra get all winded and tired from doing laps in the room? Does the poor little dragon have asthma? And how do you "zerg" a grand wyrm without KrakeDarks?

    Ok finally got a breather here at work >.< To the person who said to kite it and zerg it when it stops, yeah ok, When was the last time u killed Vrtra ?..? lol, anyways....

    I thank the few who actually had good input on straight tanking her. The idea of stunning the moment she summons seems realistic, my only concern there would be the amount of hate that person would build since she summons so fast, but could work, so I will definately keep that in mind.

    Something I did notice though, when we killed it for the first time, it was right before they did the hate/mpk patch. So, we were of course able to sleep the pops, cfh them, and then go from there. We tried like the weekend after they did the patch, and we noticed that the summons would pop unclaimed, sleep, and die unclaimed, and never take there eyes off the tanks. Yesterday though, I noticed that quite often they would get claimed to the BLM's or whoever claimed them, so idk if SE changed something with how Vrtra works with the hate/mpk patch.

    I think even without 37643754 Kraken Club DRK's you could bring her down quickly if u can keep her still. We did probably 35%'ISH damage in maybe 10 minutes, this with 4 or 5 SMN's and 2-3 SAM's attempting to constantly pin hate on the tanks. We had the couple of Ridill DRK's we have there, but had planned to use them to finish it off, and we never got to that point. It definately doesnt compare to a KC DRK, but... they still do nice damage. We have tossed them @ Tiamat a few times with 2x March and they usually do about 5-9% off each, so... not THAT bad.

    Thanks for the suggestions people actually gave that were just that, I appreciate it ^^
