    Hot & Cold: New areas?

Anyone know where info can be found on the new game areas and how to get access to them? I checked the wiki and found nothing. I ventured into Alla's forums but threads like "RL money for gil.. respectable?" scared me away before I could look far.

The H&C NPC said nothing new that I could find.

I've been trying to figure this out, too. Just did a digging session with the wildgrass I got yesterday, so going back to get another now. I did find this in the Bastok Mines dialog files:

According to my records, you and your chocobo have been quite successful in locating ≺Set Color #5≻prairie≺Set Color #1≻ treasure.≺Prompt≻

According to my records, you and your chocobo have been quite successful in locating treasure out in the ≺Set Color #5≻bush≺Set Color #1≻.≺Prompt≻

Perhaps it is time we offered you a different challenge.≺Prompt≻

This ≺Key Item Parameter 0≻ should keep your interests piqued for the next few months.≺Prompt≻

With it, you will be allowed to participate in Hot and Cold festivities in the Valkurm Dunes.≺Prompt≻

With it, you will be allowed to participate in Hot and Cold festivities on the Buburimu Peninsula.≺Prompt≻

The buried treasure there will be considerably more different to find, but you should have no problems. Good luck, and good digging!≺Prompt≻

According to my records, it seems that you and your bird have become quite skilled at locating treasure on the Buburimu Peninsula.≺Prompt≻

According to my records, it seems that you and you bird have become quite skilled at locating treasure in the Valkurm Dunes.≺Prompt≻

You bear the mark of a true digger, ≺Player Name≻!≺Prompt≻

Which is why I'm proud to present you with this new chocograph for the rainforests of Yuhtunga and Yhoator.≺Prompt≻

I must warn you, all the different types of exotic foliage in the jungles can play tricks on your chocobo's sense of smell. You'll have to comb wider patches of the landscape than before if you wish to uncover the bounty.≺Prompt≻

Which is why I'm proud to present you with this new chocograph for the Eastern and Western Altepa Deserts.≺Prompt≻

I must warn you, the unrelenting heat of the noonday sun, combined with the deserts' loose sands, will take their toll on your chocobo. You must be extra careful in choosing where to dig, as your bird will tire quickly.≺Prompt≻
I'm guessing just successfully dig enough times? I'm going to try winning once in each area, too, to see if that helps.

I recieved a Dune Chocograph from my normal Windy HotnCold NPC. I had to log before i got to use the wildgrass but, normally i would just go to mea/dem/holla and dig there. Ive been doing HotnCold pretty much everyday since they input it in the game. Dune Chocograph = Valkurm Dunes digging.

I tried out Hot & Cold in the Dunes last night. My chocobo tired out in 11 digs. You can get screwed very easily.

Do you get the 5-try warning still?

I wonder if it is random or always 11 digs...

What's the prereq? # of dig or successful digs on all old areas?

The update alluded to a new, hidden Chocobo Hot and Cold skill, maybe you get the other chocographs as you "rank up"?

    - Your chocobo’s general digging ability will now be improved when successfully discovering treasure.
*The amount the ability improves varies with the chocograph area.
*The exact value of the ability increase will not be displayed.
Or do they just mean the preexisting hidden digging skill?

This is interesting...seem like there is a new system that's based on specific chocobo instead of the player for overall digging ability.

I am wondering if I got the item through that glitch mentioned in today's update notes, as I have not had a successful dig in the dunes yet. I have noticed that the radius for "very close" is much smaller than in the normal areas, yet I still cannot pinpoint the center.

I hope this area sucks because of some reason other than the area sucking. >_>

Okay, since the version update I've now successfully dug in all six previously-existing chocograph areas, and I'm still not getting anything new from the NPC, so that's not the trigger (unless I need to wait until she gives me some more wildgrass tomorrow).

Just got the Coastal Chocograph today. I'd estimate I had five successful digs since the update. I've been having a string of bad luck. Either way, I dig exclusively in Meriphataud Mountains, so you don't need to dig from different areas to be eligible for the new Chocograph.

Took my Chocobo (Poor Discernment, Poor Receptivity, no abilities) to Buburimu Peninsula and dug up a Cupid Worm. Woo.

Gausebit Grass & Gregarious Worm at Buburimu, submited the awesome findings at the wiki.

Finally got my Bubu chocograph today. Got Indurated Gold (lol?) and Gausbit grass in the crate. I guess SE feels people aren't using stoneskin torque enough.

    Bump!

Got my Jungle Chocograph today after enough time in Buburimu, so I took a trip to Yuhtunga.

The chest was kind of hard to find... it was farther than usual, and my chocobo didn't seem to have as sensitive a nose as usual. Without some kind of special ability (I've got Treasure Finder), it seems like it would be really difficult to consistently win.

I ended up with three prizes this time: Gausebit Grass, Cupid Worm, and Chiffonier (a furnishing). No pics since I'm on PS2. (but if I was going to make stuff up, I think I could do better than Chiffonier.) I hope the other prizes turn out this well.

You happen to recall how many successful attempts in Bubu to get the new chocograph? I figure it's probably a fixed number.

Argh, I should have kept count. I want to say 8.

It should be the same for Valkurm/Altepa, right? I haven't touched the Prairie locations, so I'll keep count on those.

I now have the Bubu and Dunes chocographs. Dunes is a horrible, horrible place to H&C. You get a grand total of 10 digs. Blech.

A LS mate dug up an Indurated Gold Ingot in Bubu. That's pretty darned cool. (I failed both Bubu and Dunes when I tried them and haven't gone back since.)
