    Dread Spikes

    In case people didn't know, it absorbs 100% of the damage taken...

    The MP cost is too high to be useful in most situations.

    Edit: Oh, and Drain 2 did 361 on my first cast... brought HP to like 1700.

    The % varies with mob (assume dark magic skill is chance of percentage). I was getting 50% off of Aura Pots in sky.

    Its probably subject to resists or mdb.

    78mp isnt too bad to be pretty much invincible for half youre hp. Whats the casting time? Could be kinda of nice for pulling situations, or kraken raping, etc.

    It has a limit to how much it can drain back in total right? Something like 50% of DRK's max HP?

    700ish damage for 80MP isnt that bad, especially considering it is also basically a negation of the damage you take (and hence would need to be cured) at the same time. Thunder II costs 86MP and the best equipped BLM would have an incredibly hard time getting that kind of damage out of it on any mob, let alone a hard mob.

    Does it only heal you, like Blood Weapon. Or does it do damage like Bloody Bolts?

    Presents a nice soloing or even small group tanking option if you're fighting reasonably unscary mobs. Parade gorget, lolvampire cloak, and a refresh or ballad would keep you mp happy for a good while. Plus aspirs if you're fighting mobs that you can suck the mp juices out of.

    Anyone try it versus undead yet? Would be funny if the spikes did extra damage to you ala the old FF console games.

    I wanna see a DRK pull hate when Tiamat uses mighty strikes..That's be great. I mean, it only goes for 50% of the DRKs max HP, but still..be nice to see.

    Just tested this in ballista too. During ballista is still drains full hp a hit, but instead of 50% it seems its only 25%

    I tried testing it on dolphins in sea to see if the damage changed when they opened their mouth for some reason but by the time they opened spikes wore off. I didnt do alot of testing but i did do a drain 2 for about 800 with an open mouth dolphin. It gave me 2k+ hp without any of my hp gear.

    It didn't work well at all in Besieged. I got hit for 150, got about 10-12 HP back. Drain II didn't do well either (got 2 HP, 8, 6, 0, 12, 0).

    Besieged mobs aren't a great test though.

    Besieged mobs take apx 200 dmg from a Thunder 4. Sounds like it's definately MDB related.

    It appears the spikes are able to be resisted and follow normal magic rules. They seem to have high acc regardless of dark magic skill though. I've seen a few spikes resisted, and I imagine mobs that take % off magic damage will take a % off spikes. The amount it absorbs seems to vary per every cast (like drain). I didn't notice any correlation between having Dark Magic Skill+ equipped or not... but my ranges were 600-1000 in total spike drains. The casting time isn't increadibly fast... it seems like the kind of spell you need to cast beforehand. 78mp also makes it kind of hard to use in merit situations efficiently. (That being said, most toa XP camps do have an aspirable mob.)

    the total quantity absorbed by dread Spikes depend of your MAX HP When your casting it.

    so the best way to raise it is to cast Drain 2 ( about 400~ ) , then switch HP gear and cast Dread Spike.

    exemple:

    1400/1400 , drain2 for 400 => 1800/1800 then switch HP Gear +300 => 1800/2100

    Then with DS on you can absorb up to 1050 HP total
