I hate when people clap during a movie mainly because if people were watching that same scene in the same movie in their living rooms or bedrooms they would not be clapping.

Its obnoxious and annoying, plus who the fuck are you clapping at?

I'm all about great movies, but I got dragged into seeing 'Wild Hogs' last week (ugh) and people fucking clapped during that.

I need to buy a gun for people like that.

Obnoxious and annoying how? The movie was amazing, everyone watching it went in uproar after that scene where Leonidas was in slow motion kicking the shit out of anything and everything in the way. They clap at it because it's something new, refreshing, amazing. If you get annoyed with stupid shit like an applause then I'd really hate to be you.

I'd like to think there's a difference between watching a movie by yourself in your bedroom and watching it on a gargantuan screen with hundreds of others. That's just me though.

I dunno, maybe it IS just me.

But I've never watched a scene in a movie, no matter how epic (and don't get me wrong, I LOOOOVE movies) where I've felt the need to clap.

Inspired, sure. Enlightened, yes. Happy, of course.

But I've never made the transition from those feelings to clapping at a screen manned by a 15 year old boy being paid 8$ an hour.

Who knows, maybe it just sucks to be me? lol

And I have not seen 300, I am dying to and probably seeing it with friends tomorrow, maybe it will be a life changing experience and I'll clap uproariously with a rougish, hearty smile on my face and a deep feeling of satisfaction knowing that my emotions are one with those around me.

Who knows, it could happen. More likely though I'll just really really like the movie, see it again, then buy the DVD and continue to enjoy it without displaying it with other than a smile.

No one was obnoxious when I saw it (matinee; 5:20 showing right after work, so 1/3 theater full, tops) and I was so grateful.

No clapping or "ooooh owned!" shouts, thank God.

At least the political intrigue and backstabbing scenes in gladiator didn't bore me. All they served to do in 300 was pad the running length of the movie IMO. The scene with the oldfart senators yelling 'traitor! traitor!' was unintentionally hilarious.

There was a lot of homosexual overtones in the portrayal of Xerxes though, was kind of wishing they'd deviate just a little bit from Frank Miller's portrayal and make him more ferocious, and maybe just a little more Persian (old and common complaint I know). Having him clasp his face in the final scenes like RuPaul crying "*gasp* my makeup!" was kind of farcical.

Still worth the 12 bucks I paid to see it.
I found the political intrigue to be just right, it was only there to let the viewer know why the council refused to mobilize the entire Spartan army against the Persian threat.

Anyone who'd taken History: Western Civilization in college or similar classes will deeply appreciate this movie ˆˆ

The major facts and story is in line; lots of exaggeration and detail, but well worth your movie ticket~

Just thought of something that actually annoyed me in the movie. Anyone feel they used the slow motion effect way too often?

Yes I thought they used it WAY to much. There was one scene when the queen was walking to the well to talk with the good counciler, and it slowed down while she was walking. I was like WTF why??

Then the slow motion sex scene when it's all romantic and then he starts doing her doggy style, WTF??!?!!

The scene that really got me though was when the queen and the good counciler were talking. Then the camera shows a shot of the floor and focuses on both of their shadows. I'm thinking ok maybe he's gonna betray her and stab her, but then it just goes back to a shot of both of them. Seriously, why did they even have the shot of the floor.

All in all, I liked the movie, but I thought the cinematography was crap. Sorry I just didn't like it, but the figthe scenes were badass. For some reason I really appreciated their use of shields as weapons.

Just got back from seeing it tonight after being dissapointed last night from all the showings being sold out but the wait was worth it. I loved every minute of the movie. If there was one thing I had to say I didn't like it would be I wish the movie was longer. I didn't want it to end especially the last scene of the movie. *SPOILER?* If 300 Spartans fucked up the Persians so bad I would have loved to see what the battle at the end would have been like againsts 10,000 Spartans and 30,000 other Greeks.

Like many others have said previously in this topic this was one of the best movies I've seen at the theaters in a while and I watch alot of movies most of them are not worth the price of the admission ticket but this one was worth every penny. I can't wait for this movie to be released on Blu-ray and to watch it again at home on my 1080p HDTV using my lolPS3.

You do know this movie is based off of a comic book, right?

    THIS MOVIE WAS STUPID

like. Good battles, stupid story. I didn't like it. The ending was RETARDED. And wtf @ Casting Dhalsim to be the opposing character.

I don't even remember that shot of the floor. Maybe I'm used to it because they tend to do that sort of pointless "look at the surroundings instead of the characters when they're talking" thing in anime sometimes. Especially Oshii type stuff.

As for the sex scene, it's not like most of the rest of the positions were particularly romantic either...

Hanging out in my neck of the woods now Lbelle? Unfortunately (as I'm sure you've discovered) the Arclight isn't playing 300 ><

That theater owns though. I used to live 3 blocks away - now I work 3 blocks away.

It will certainly win awards like best cinematography, best art direction, etc. The awards on which I'm iffy are Best Adaptation, Best Picture, or any of the actor/actress awards.
It won't get nominated for anything other than possibly a couple technical awards (sound design, etc.)

Stupid story and bad ending? You realize it's based off a comic that was based off of historical events right? The story was very well done and is about inspiration and standing up against tyranny, also about kicking so much damn ass you become the definition of Go Time. They didnt need to show you the battle in the ending, they could have but you basically know what is gonna go down there. Xerxes was portrayed that way because like the rest of the persians, they were being seen through the eyes of the man telling the story (A spartan) and the people listening to the story. A person that proclaims himself a god on earth isnt going to be a 5'1 fat guy with a scruffy beard and a "Im with stupid" T-shirt on.
