    That does sound new; one of our 2 strats for this was random anything kiting with shadows for catching Virelai. Hmm.

    And I heard he zones with you now as well through the little pretty shiny portal, did you test that perchance? I know one person mentioned it here, haven't seen anyone else say anything to effect.

    I can't believe some people still have 75 BLM and don't know about how INT helps you be unresisted on super high level mobs. I thought that was common knowledge by now. If a mob has twice your INT, Elemental skill doesn't mean shit. It's why I ask for Etude on Kirin always, and I'm not resisted near as much as without.

    Going all-out Elemental magic gear won't do much if you are sacrificing a butt-load of INT. That's why AF1+1 mitts are godly IMO.
    Please show me where the data is that supports this evidence.

    I dunno, works for me. Razz Placebo or no, with other random little game mechanics it makes sense in my head, and I haven't really read anything that said anything very differently. I tend to avoid KI job-specific forums in general, so more of my ideas come from my own comparisons and chatting with findings with other LSmates. I can fight Fafnir on BLM and not get one single resist in my nuke setup, not elemental skill setup - pull hate once or twice if I need to but survive getting hit; and I can watch another BLM in another shell who is all out damage, including a Novio he bought from RMT and HQ everything and Sorc Ring and whatnot and unless he's MBing he gets resists 8 times out of 10; and when he does MB he gets hate and dies at least once a Fafnir fight. Which is more practical?
    Anecdotal evidence doesn't prove anything. For all I know the reason you may not be getting resisted and the other BLM is is because of threnody, merits, NQ vs HQ staves, or other factors.

    The general concensus for the longest time was that INT doesn't affect resist rates or that if it does, it's marginal, and I haven't seen any data that would change that. If there is data, please point me in that direction then.

    I think anyone who has nuked stuff like Kirin for long enough comes to the same conclusion about INT and resists. There is some effect, but it would be very hard to prove it unless you want to go out and get data for 1000's of nukes, so arguments like this are pointless. Do whatever floats your own boat.

    Are you 75 BLM quicklet? If so, go to Kirin and nuke with 0 +INT gear and all elemental gear. Then put on all INT gear and get a bard to etude you and eat a melon pie +1. Lemme know what happens. My LS does sky often still, so I've had alot of time to tweak my gear for Kirin...etude and other INT+ stuff along with a little bit of elemental magic+ is the way to go.

    I've told other BLM in my LS to do the same, and they also report minimal resists.

    I've been using BLM on kirin lately and would just like to know what kinda INT gear you use? Errant over weskit? Yigit gloves over AF1? AF1 hat over AF2 hat?

    For Kirin, I recommend af2 hat (af+1 works fine), wizard gloves+1, weskit, Mahatma/Jet, Yigit boots, Elemental Torque, Prism Cape, and INT rings. It's a good balance between INT and ES imho. I've been going as SMN for the longest time but I have just recently started going BLM occassionally as my BLM gear has reached its max. I still notice terrible resists even with all my elemental skill gear but a nice decrease when I load up on INT and get some etudes. Regarding Fafnir, a MAB setup with -enmity gear is fine since he is not as high lvl as Kirin. On the sea topic, I nuked Jailer of Love in my MAB gear and got very, very few resists as well. Ditto with Jailer of Faith and the Ix'Aerns.

    Um....wow. What I can't believe is BLMs that think INT affects resist rates. That's not how it works.

    Elemental magic skill affects the rate at which your nukes will be resisted, not INT. However, if you're fighting a mob with INT that dwarfs yours, it doesn't matter how much ele skill you put on. Your damage is just gonna plain suck. INT works for magic attacks much like VIT does for phys. attacks. Adding more of it simply lowers the range of damage that you receive, and raises the range of damage that you can deal with magic. Soooo, say you have INT+50, and your nukes are doing 900-1000 dmg (hypothetically). Add on 25 more INT (INT+75 now), and your damage range will raise to 1000-1100. Similar applies for you being the target of a magic attack.

    Except magic damage doesn't have a range, unless you're talking about resists.

    We did this while waiting for reinforcments and he doesnt follow you through he just loses aggro and heads back toward spawn point. But I believe alliance hate is linked so whoever you would have zoning it make sure they aren't in the alliance.

    Also, for any of those who care AV popped on Quetz a bit ago. A JP LS popped it, haven't been able to lock its two hours. They have around 40-50 people and been going for four hours. So I'm thinking still glitched

    Yes, precisely... which could technically be considered a resist.

    So you want to increase your INT over the mobs so that your damage rate is higher; I don't know, perhaps resist is the wrong word to use, but it's the easiest way to refer to it. Your damage is capped unless you increase your INT; it's still a sort of resist rate.

    This is precisely how I think of it, I just refer to it as a resist, because I'm under my damage cap, etc. Blargh.. you just word it better. -.-

    INT can have an effect on damage and resists when you consider:

    The Magical Damage Formula:
    Damage = [(cINT - tINT) x TIM + SDC] x MAB x ESB x DWB

    Now Kirin has a very high INT. Let's assume its 200 for this example and your character has say, 110 INT with gear. You cast Aero IV:

    Damage = [(110 - 200) x 2.0 (for a tier IV spell) + 440 (SDC for Wind)] x 1.4 (MAB example) x 1.15 x 1 (no weather/day bonuses) = 418.6 base damage

    Now lets add 30 INT to your character:

    Damage = [(140 - 200) x 2.0 (for a tier IV spell) + 440 ( for Wind)] x 1.4 (MAB example) x 1.15 x 1 (no weather/day bonuses) = 515.1 base
    damage

    Finally, add another 30:

    Damage = [(170 - 200) x 2.0 (for a tier IV spell) + 440 ( for Wind)] x 1.4 (MAB example) x 1.15 x 1 (no weather/day bonuses) = 611.8 base
    damage

    You just added almost 100 damage to your range with only 30 INT, and another 100 with 30 more. On a mob like Kirin, INT appears to offer more in damage than MAB for an increase in the base range of damage. As for resists, it is difficult to conclude concretely but the closer your INT to the target INT on a mob like Kirin, the better. Having not fought Tiamat as a BLM, does he resists more or less than Kirin?

    SHE!

    Hehe. Umm... she doesn't resist as much, but she has like, a cut damage cap, sort of. You can get Aeroga IIIs for 900-1000 or whatever on Kirin, but top damages on Tia tend to be high 600s for me. Resist rate... Tia, seems.. much more random. I've gone entire fights in my nuke gear and resisted only 4 times maybe, and then next time I can't get any decent numbers until I switch out to Elemental.

    I don't know Ash, last week when we got the deed from DRG, he zoned thru the portals, but it still seemed glitched like he had before. I'm having issues with him popping claimed and not yellow like he used to. Instead of being able to get set, drop members from the alliance to hold the pets, he pops claimed and all members in that alliance have a set amount of hate already. So we end up kiting it off as members relog to reset hate.

    ive fought ix'drg post update, we used our regular strategy (no one is in a pt, until under 10%) and had np with he or his wyverns coming through the portal.

    btw ashira, personal belief is resist rates are also based heavily on the mobs mnd. Ever solo'd a light based ghrah in sea? resist city in comparison to ghrahs based on any other element, and obviously theyre very high in mnd (I assume?). I see many more resists off light based ghrahs in sea than dark based. try adding shock to your burn macro :D

    I use all three light allied for DoT etc. And considering the manual even says MND is magic def or whatever... I used Shock for ages and ages and used to argue it over Burn altogether until I also saw the effect of higher INT etc.

    This is only a tad bit off topic I'm afraid, but a while back someone posted their drop rates from a huge sample size if Ix's and Jailers and all that, and I can't find the thread. Does anyone have that bookmarked, or have similar/the same information?

    I'm trying to find out the drop rate on Ix'Mnks Vice using different numbers of Organs. I duo him frequently with a friend and we couldn't remember if the Vice drop rate goes up with more Organs or not. Farming 3 Organs a pop with only 2 people is a pain in the ass, so I'm hoping the Vice remains the same rate regardless of the number of Organs.
