Is anyone else getting this error when they try to log in:

Error Code: FFXI-3113
Protocol time out error.

I get all the way through POL to the point where it goes full screen and asks you to accept the terms of service. After I do that, it gets to the message "Acquiring player data" and then hangs there. After a minute or so, it gives the message above.

I already updated my client the day the patch came out, and have had no problems logging on since. I'm not having trouble reaching anything else on the net -- I can even send POL messages and do anything in POL just fine. I don't use any 3rd party tools, not even Windower.

It's also happening on both PCs in my house, so it seems to be network or FFXI server related to me.

Any ideas?

I'm not getting the same error but, I keep getting timed out as soon as I login my character into the game. I'm not having issues with anything else, browsing websites fine, and can do anything on pol without being disconnected or whatever. Gdi

Sent PoL a note in Tech support with the error and problem. I suggest anyone else with this happening to them to do the same as well.

Well it's been several hours later since I tried to log back in. Still the same damn error.

I just spoke with someone from my linkshell and they said 2990 are on the server which is alot even tho its friday night. Maybe its like besieged, only 700 can enter? idk just reaching for an answer at this point.

same problem someone told me doing the newest update while running windower currupts some of your pol files. checking files now i'll edit to see if it fixes it

no windower here, but me and ceiyne changed IP via router reboot and now it works...

Try this: Exit FFXI.

Click on Start, go to run and type in "cmd" and click Ok.

Type (no quotes) "ipconfig /release"

wait like 20 seconds

Type (no quotes) "ipconfig /renew"

Type (no quotes) "exit"

Try FFXI again.

If that doesn't work try totally powering down your modem, router and computer. Bring the cable modem up first, wait a couple minutes, then router, wait a couple then turn on PC. If that doesn't work try another release/renew with FFXI closed and try again.


No clue if this will actually help but it seems FFXI caches your IP address somehow. After my PC crashed once I got a new IP and FFXI would error out immediately after I tried to login to POL. release/renew fixed it for me.

Thanks for trying, but this didn't help at all. I still get stuck on "acquiring server data"

I am not at all a technical person, so I can't walk you through it, but an LSmate had to muck around with the MAC address on his router to force his ISP to give him a new IP before he could zone into certain areas.

been like this since I updated
