nyzul was a dead zone for me with my router in. Connected straight from modem to my comp and i could enter nyzul. Fucked up huh :\
This happened with me as well. Behind router i would be fine in North San D, with no router i crash.

Try updating your firmware on your router and/or modem if you can, that fixed it for a few people and my old Linksys would r0 all the time until I got a new one. Maybe the update is just making the problem worse.

As for the changing the IP thing FFXI for sure caches your IP somehow. During a BC a few weeks ago we had a power outage and both comp crashed. Power came back and the laptop could login but I would get an error immediately after I tried to login to POL on the PC. After messing with it for a while a release/renew is what fixed it.

Been stuck inbetween zones now for 24hours. I called SE. All i got from them was that until my IP can "retrace" itself, their is nothing they can do.

i've tried every possible solution, at this point, im having someone log me in and move me, because i cannot do anything. Clearly SE's fault.

every time you unplug your router, and plug directly into your modem, its the same as the MAC address thing people have been doing to temporally enter zones. I wouldnt be surprised if other zones were broken for you while directly plugged in.

Im not sure of the reasoning behind it- but a lot of people reported a "change" in their dead-zones after renewing a different IP... He could be sharing his broadband through a hub and getting 2 seperate IP adds from his ISP. And perhaps the 2nd IP he's getting on his desktop is one of the lucky ones with no dead zones...

This whole problem really is quite perplexing :\

Anyone else having problems with POL? Just tried to log on there and I couldn't get past the sign in screen. Then rebooted my comp and POL was reset to like it was when I first started playing. Now it's wiped the ID's/PWs from my list and I can't remember mine. Really annoying

I know a lot of people who live in the Seattle area and play FFXI, and not a single one has had any issues with zones. Clearly, the answer to your FFXI dilemma is moving to Seattle. Pack your bags and bring your umbrellas.

Oh? Well, good. I don't want you bastards moving up here anyway.

But on another note, and here's your warning: bust out with the tinfoil hat... what's the possibility that some jackass(es) (possibly RMT) are intentionally corrupting packets? Is there any reason to believe that they have the capacity to sniff packets coming across the wire and messing up the headers if they discover they originate from SE? If they could only mess with a few routes that would explain why some people are experiencing such odd behavior... DC in one zone, fine in the next. This would also explain why SE can't find the problem, because the problem truly exists outside of their control. SE's servers have been DOSed in the past, so perhaps this is a new method of retaliation. (Ok you can take the silly hat off now.)

-edit- Homepointing worked, much to my surprise! Stuff clearly is getting sent and being recieved.
You can actually run around for 10 seconds or so and the packets will still be sent, in fact, your game SHOULD continue to pick up gametime (iceday 15:45 etc) even though you are DC'ing. I honestly don't think its a problem with the ISP's, its a problem with the coding of the game and it needs to be fixed. My dead zones are Ro'Maeve and LaTheine Plateau right now (only 2 i've found). I tele:Holla'd saturday morning and found out the LaTheine one, but I was able to login like 5 times, each time running toward Jugner Forest and eventually zone (DC'd during zone though). When I logged on the next time, I actually logged in fine and was able to warp back to Whitegate without problems. Also, changing IP's only works on some systems, i've tried messing with my IP's and it hasn't changed the results yet, and I don't even use a router.

Thats not a bad theroy though. I haven't been able to move out of my MH in Whitegate since the thursday after the update. GM said that their servers are working correctly and that it has to be on my end.

Funny, I can remote to 12 different work sites, and have my VPN up.

So I thought meh maybe its comcast, I mean they are craptastic! so I vpn'd to work grabbed an IP address from my EST dhcp server and was able to zone out. Albeit slower then hell, but still able to zone out and talk to my Moogle and get the stuff I've needed out of my DBox finally.

I Tele-Mea so I can at least be near windy for OP, I instantly DC at the crag. I DC from the VPN and I'm able to move to windy off of my own connection. I figure Ill try my connection again and warp back to Whitegate, DC and still can't get past connecting to lobby server.

This games dev's suck my taint.

    Dear FFXI gamer,

There is nothing wrong with our side of the server. We ask that you refrain from complaining about these issues since we have nothing to do with it. We suggest that you contact your ISP and ask them to reset your IP address and then reset your router. Then you will clearly notice that there is nothing wrong with the game connections.

I have 2 PCs 1 PS2 on same broadband connection playing FFXI....they all had different dead zones..

Yesterday I went to my routers setup and forced a static IP (which happens to be the same one I had anyway...)

This removed all dead zones......very strange shit...

Only thing I changed was from get IP dynamically from ISP to use static IP and put the same information DNS server, IP , subnet mask etc. that was already being used.....
    So far problem solved...

I then undid that change and the dead zones were back...

What I don't get is I have had that IP for a year now? Since my router is always on...mY IP is pretty much static...making it "forced" static (I guess removing DHCP server) fixed the problem..

I know a little about TCP/IP but not that much...how does that make any sense?

A friend recommended that some dats could have been possibly disrupted during the download. Did any of you with dead zones get DCed at all during the update? Said that maybe if that happened, some files were currupted that just got ignored and its resulting in the information sent from clients to be ignored by SE.

I don't know the technicalities, but just a thought. She told me and it made sense enough to think it could have been what happened.

I didn't get disconnected, but my update took upwards of 8 hours to download. I ran the file check on both my POL files and FFXI files and the only ones to be wrong were the UI files.

    I carry my laptop around with me, it works fine at work (Bellsouth DSL) and works fine on the road (verizon wireless), but when I plug it in at home (Comcast) I have dead zones. So doubt it's a problem like that. I just hope they/whoever fixes it ;;

dat files should only cause problem during patch if you didnt change back the original dat files during patching.

anyways, it seems they now admit that the connection issue to EU and NA now. GM,customer support, mail and web chat bombing calls did work

note:i asked about whther change modem ip will resolve the pol 3113 issue or not, they answer probably wont

I live in the Seattle area as well, and haven't really noticed any issues other than the standard "Comcast can kiss my ass" issues.

Same, I'm in Seattle area and have never had FFXI connectivity issues since NA PC release, unless it affected literally everyone else, too. But out of all the times in the past when only some people have had lag or connection issues and others don't, I've never had problems. I think I've d/c'd a grand total of maybe two or three times in the past 3 years (not counting server crashes or other cases where everyone on the server also d/cs), and those were due to Comcast, not FFXI.

So I'm willing to believe there's never been a problem with SE's servers, per se, but just problems in the connection between SE's servers and the providers of those in other areas who do get problems. If you think about it, if it were strictly SE's servers that were fucked up, everyone would have dead zones and connectivity issues and lag, etc. But every time something like this comes up in the past, only certain people are experiencing heavy lag, login trouble, connectivity issues, etc. Not everyone.

So it can't be the servers themselves, unless there's some explanation for how some people never get affected by such issues.
