What the fuck are you talking about, ISPs have nothing to do with this problem, and it got fixed before SE did any patching or updating.Originally Posted by Carrots

SE blamed ISPs, not themselves (or their 3rd party server holders if that turned out to be true)Originally Posted by Zirk
People started having the problem after their last major patch.
Also, they can fix server-side issue without interrupting play depending on what the issue is. In fact, they often do this for area specific maintenance.Originally Posted by e-thug
Well, don't forget there are people who are completely unaffected, so this means its not something that is on SE's servers specifically, otherwise everyone in the entire game on all servers would be affected. It has to be something between SE's servers and your machine, because its not just luck that those who are unaffected remain unaffected. As I've stated previously, I've never had connectivity issues in FFXI ever that wasn't due to a server crash or something in the past 3 years.Originally Posted by Codernaut
This is incredibly simplistic, especially since, as divisortheory said, there's different routes each packet can take depending on machine and server, but:
Imagine the route from SE to you. (SE) ------------------------- (you)
Is the problem here? (SE) ---*--------------------- (you)
or here? (SE) ---------------------*--- (you)
Who knows, but its not here. (SE*) ------------------------- (you)
or here (SE) ------------------------- (*you)
It isn't necessarily one of their servers. Could be a router issue (or another similar issue) on their end. Someone (don't remember who) said their 'friend' was receiving bad packets when trying to enter "dead zones".Originally Posted by Khamsin
It's also possible that people who are not experiencing any problems at all just aren't connecting through the effected devices.
Could be something like this?:
or even in one of these two spotsCode:[Square] (Server) --*--(other crap) ---- (router1) \ ------(working crap) --- (router2) _________________________________________ | | <--- internet | | ____________________________________________________ (your ISP) ----- (various hubs/switches) ----- (you)
Code:[Square] (Character info DB) --------*-------(router2)-------- | | * | | | (Server) -----(other crap) ---- (router1)---------- | | _____________________________________________________ | | <--- internet | | [Your Side] (your ISP) --- (various hubs/switches) ---- (you)
A problem with whatever DB stores character info sounds likely to me, especially if we're all on different boxes which store this info. Each 'area' server will need to make a connection to those machines to validate actions happening between that area and your character (like loading your level, armor and hp/mp since since it's likely this only happens when you zone swap gear or use a moogle). We know that some kind of connections work because when in these "dead" areas players can still search and have actions performed on them (like teleporting), which probably occurs through the character DB/zone-changing box and not in the area specific boxes.
They might interact like this:
1)
(Character DB): ...
(Zone changing handler): whm just cast teleport on Codernaut
(Area server) : *whir whir whir* trying toload codernaut's dataz
2)
(Chatacter DB): I see the zone handler wants to move codernaut and the whm
(Zone changing handler): ...
(area server): still trying to load codernaut's data
3)
(Chatacter DB): I give codernaut and the whm permission to teleport since they both have the tele-point crystal
(Zone changing handler): ...
(area server): ...
4)
(Chatacter DB): ...
(Zone changing handler): moving codernaut and the Whm to crag area
(area server): unload codernaut and the whm, they're gone
Now, even though the game thinks I'm in the other zone, I still end up DC'ing w/ server problems because the connection between the zone/changer and/or character DB with the area server is hosed.
When I log back in I'm in the crag area because the character DB told the area/zone handler that's where I was the last time I logged out.
Similar issue also happens if I just try to walk in to a mog house.
well, finally able to online after changing the ip.Originally Posted by Masterofshade

MAKE IT STOP!!!
EDIT: My current dead area's are now working!! Huzzah!
SE would never admit it themselves if it was their own...they are a JP company after all. Any public apology usually comes with a dismissal or scapegoat bowing down.
I'm seeing a lot of posts like this one today, hopefully I'll finally be able to use whitegate again tonight. :DOriginally Posted by Popeh
Error 3113 gone, finally.
Mine fixed as well /cheer
I was stuck at "Acquiring Player Data" for a few days. All better now.
Umm so does anyone know what just happend?
Dunno if this has been mentioned, but since update I dont have blackout areas... but my FPS has been absolutely horrible in main areas such as Bhaflau or Whitegate..... even when bhaflau is empty I drop below 5 FPS... anyone else experiencing horrendous lag since update?
I think I can explain. Allow me to illustrate what is probably happening:
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/194/routesln0.jpg
As you can see, this clearly illustrates the World Wide Web. We have Square-Enix where our beloved game is located. We have "you", the avid gamer. And we have porn. We have bad circles which get between us and the game we desire. But, the bad circles are only in a few spots. Since the WWW/Internet is redundant, our computers can travel along different routes. Some of us are hitting the bad circles. BAD CIRCLES, BAD! Some of us are not.
In conclusion, FFXI is an elusive beast because the web is made for one thing: porn.
Your diagram is grossly flawed, the internet has a far higher percentage of porn than that.Originally Posted by Fhqwghads

I thought the internet was a dump truckOriginally Posted by Gere

No no, it's not a dump truck, it's a series of tubes. And sometimes race horses get stuck in them.Originally Posted by Metah
