Connectivity Issue Update (Mar. 16)



Since Mar. 9, 2007, some players have experienced connectivity issues when attempting to log in to FINAL FANTASY XI or while traveling through various areas in FINAL FANTASY XI. We are happy to announce that the situation has improved over the past few days.

While our team of technicians have investigated and confirmed that our FINAL FANTASY XI servers are currently working properly and our service is not experiencing any technical difficulties at this time, we will continue to investigate the matter and work to ensure the best service possible.

If you are still having connectivity issues, try connecting to FINAL FANTASY XI again at another time or contact the Playonline Information Center.

I have no doubt they checked their servers and found nothing wrong. It seems an odd problem, and there's more than just SE's server and your computer involved in getting packets back and forth. Might not be your ISP, might not be SE's physical server machines. Could be SE's ISP, could be something on SE's end but not their servers, could be something between SE and select people's ISPs, could be anything.

I'm sure you've had problems before where, say, you can't connect to the internet or its really slow so you check everything and it all looks ok, you call the cable company and they say there's no problems reported in your area and the signal looks good, and even after resetting the modem and router and doing a bunch of other crap, nothing seems to work. Then after a while it just sort of fixes itself, and chances are your neighbors never even noticed.

Funky things happen, and sometimes no matter how hard you look, you're not going to find anything wrong even though something obviously is.

Your IP address may have been blocked by the FFXI admins due to abuse. When you connect your computer directly to the modem you get a new IP address so you can get through. Please try to use the Clone MAC address

SE would never admit it themselves if it was their own...they are a JP company after all. Any public apology usually comes with a dismissal or scapegoat bowing down.
