Anyone discover any type of pop condition for this NM, or is it just completely random?

Seems random to me, I see him up quite often on the boat from whitegate to nashmau. I would estimate about 15% of the time?

A COR on my ls insists he's a 21-24, functioning a la Kruetzet in that if he depops, it counts as his window closing. I've no evidence, and have only seen the NM once, personally -- But that's what he insists.

After camping this guy for a few days now I'm inclined to agree with your friend.

I've probably taken the boat a grand total of 20 times. Ran into Proteus once... literally! Ran into it after opening the door.

Interesting tip for those not trying to kill it - kite around for 1-2mins and it'll deaggro.

i think its totally random.. personally ive never seen him, but people in my ls always mention when he's up.. someone was riding the boat a few times and saw him more than once..

pics or it didnt happen i know.. but w/e

I've seen him pop twice within an hour before. I'm 0/4 on the sword and frankly; I've given up.

He seems to pop much like the pirate NMs.... whenever a LS member who has some interest in the drop is on a lowbie job and solo on the boat. Popped on a LS member when he was headed to a bird PT in Mire on his 57 SAM the other day.

And I didn't know that about Kreutzet... been camping it for a buddy leveling THF recently, and one time it killed the group fighting it and depopped before we were there to claim. We waited around, figuring it would just repop again on the next double wind weather. ><

I used to kite things in circles around the deck- it's especially easy to do with Gravity on the regular (non-NM) monsters on the ferry, even with DoT's running. Be fun trying to manaburn Proteus that way, if it'll stick on him.

I've usually seen Proteus 2 or so times a day sailing around, so it's definitely less than 21-24 hours between pops.
