Anyway. Does FFXI work somehow on Vista yet?
I plan to buy a Notebook and want to make sure I can play it on Vista.
I remember some people having problems with Vista cause it doesnt work?
Did people get FFXI started on Vista though?
If yes, did they need another programm for it or so?

The only way I've gotten around it is to install POL & FFXI, then overwrite the install with the updated files from another computer. Run through the file checks and you should be good to go.

It works great Berc, if your video card has good vista drivers.

Sound/Video drivers have been most of my issues running it (after swaping pol from an XP machine)

Well people said the same thing about XP when Win2K was the "nerd" choice. Lol. Give it time, and Vista will be the preferred OS.

FFXI does work with Vista, but its suggested that unless you have a high end system and can handle a few problems most users should continue to use XP. Most of the problems are graphic and audio driver issues. If your really gung-ho about using Vista, check out this link.

The only real bitch is if you don't have a prior XP installation to go off of, because without an upgraded POL you can't get anywhere - it immediately crashes. I just had to upload a nice 250MB zip of my POL directory for a friend who had Vista on a brand new box and only had FFXI on console before. Extracting my POL over his got the job done though.

I have a few gigs of pirated music and haven't run into a problem yet. As for FFXI on it, there was a file I had to download that let me update pol viewer, which let me use it fine. I haven't had a problem, it's just annoying having run windower as administrator every time I launch it.

Two things need to happen really.

1) You need to install FFXI and all the expansions buy doing Right-Click "Run As Administrator" on each of the setup.exe files.
2) After everything is installed, you need to copy over the latest version of pol.exe (Old versions of pol.exe used explicitly check if you were running Windows XP and not launch otherwise.)

After that you'll have to "Run As Administrator" every time you launch pol.exe.

A lot of people are saying to copy over an entire PlayOnline folder but you don't need to do that, pol.exe only.

Right click on Launcher.exe or POL.exe, whatever you're running, select the Compatability tab and check the "Run as administrator" box.

Now, you need to edit the UAC settings so you can suppress the Administrator prompt boxes, instructions here:

Now you're POL will just run like normal.

Meh, I havent had any problems with DRM yet. But I basically run Vista so I dont have to study for the exam when its released. Did the same thing for XP.

If you so update at some point, Y'zdock doesnt work, but rocket dock does.
