Argus Advice?

I've researched Argus a bit (FFXIclopedia and such) and understand that it's an 18-30 hour window from TOD. I'm familiar with some of the other high profile NM camps out there (1/5 on VE, 1/2 on LL (0/5 with TH2 friend)) so I'm not adverse to dumping a lot of time on a camp like this. Hell, I played EQ1, camps don't worry me.

However without some sort of claim bot do people really sit at the Argus camp hitting wide scan for 12 hours from TOD (assuming they can even get TOD)? Or am I missing something here.

Thanks for any advice you might give (though 'go do the BCNM you idiot' is probably not too helpful )

I've always understood that Argus was a lottery pop off Leech King, in the same manner that the beastmen kings are lottery pops off of their timed PHs, and ground kings the same.

I believe the rule I used to follow was that somewhere between 9-12 hours from the last death, one of them would spawn. If it was Argus, he would reset and the next spawn would be a "day 1" leech king (not sure what to call it here, since it's only half a day, but you get the idea). However, if Leech King spawned, Argus's "day" would advance one. I think I found it to be set up the same way as the beastmen kings: approximately every 3-5 spawns, Argus would pop, with that "lottery" chance of it going to spawn 6, 7, etc. This explains why some people have reported camping Argus (with bots) for 3-4 days before it popped.

The system seemed to work for me, but a JP bot would always get claim so we gave up. I got Leech King several times though. ^^

Again, this is just how I understood it to be, and it worked for me.

Edit: I never had to wait 18 hours for a Leech King spawn, it was generally in that 9-12 hour window.

I had Argus pop 3 days in a row before, then I got tired and said screw it. (0/3 drop and not sleeping = FTL) So, that theory is wrong, it justs a random pop of either one. I have heard argus pops more often, but I never camped it enough to find out.

Good luck and try not to go insane camping it for hours on end.

0/2 Argus camped as 73 thf/36bst. widescanned all the dang time.
5 leech kings popped one drop. over one consecutive week so i guess i just got unlucky I still want one but going 0/2 on that mob is such a morale breaker

Widescan is horrible unless people are AFK

By time something shows on scan its already been out for a good 10 seconds not to mention you have to find it in the list(not hard but 2-3 seconds makes a difference) its because the server doesnt update WS every seconds like it should but every 7-10 seconds. same reason why when you track a mob it doesnt go off your radar right away.

I camped ad RNG/THF and ran around then stood in the big room, i knew the ToD because 2 days prior i logged out there then logged on and saw LK in other room. The 8 ppl camping didnt know it popped so i killed and was the only one who knew argus window.

Came back 18 hours later and it popped 4 hours into it right infront of me, 2 ppl teleported it and one voked a goblin his voke woke me up and i claimed argus. I LOVE POP PROTECTION lol.

in the end 1/1 argus 1/1 LK got my amulet im happy :D with like 8 hours camping time total

widescan i only use to check if LK pops when i dont know who is gonna pop otherwise its faster to look around the room and get lucky like me

No, the reason the mob you track doesn't go off your radar right away when it dies is because the body is still there, lying dead. Widescan updates quite often, often enough to rely on it. When the body finally disappears 15 seconds after its death, it will leave your radar and widescan instantly.

It's been a long time since I've camped anything with widescan, but I always noticed mobs that happened to pop right in front of me, they showed up on widescan before they were popped.

Like I said it's been a long time, and I've since upgraded my pc. It may have just been lag for me, I'm not sure.

I camped this quite recently a few times. I showed up 18hrs after or so after maintenance ended and waited in the "common room" (where the biggest area of pop can occur), where Argus can pop. I went as THF/RNG for WS. WS sole purpose is for Leech King and for Argus popping by door. You can cover the common room by your screen alone.

The main deal with this NM is outlastig the the other campers. If you can outlast them its a guarnteed claim. My first claim I was in the common room and went to take a shower came back and saw Argus yellow behind a column. Came back 18hrs later and waited until about the 7th hour into the window and it popped in door room. Got the drop. Both times 5+ ppl were on and off afk. If you've got the time, it's not so bad. Well yeah it is but its worthwhile.
