Didn't read the whole thread so sorry if repeats:
Personal Recommended Authors:
Chuck Palahniuk (Realistic Fiction)
David Sedaris (Comedical Satire)
Read 'Choke' and 'Diary' from Palahniuk.
Read 'Me Talk Pretty One Day' and 'Naked' from Sedaris.
give Motherless Brooklyn a try.
These are two of my favorites as well, wow. Can you suggest some others that you have read/liked for me? Sounds like we have similar taste in literature.Originally Posted by Intense

[reading rainbow] Blue Fingers: a Ninja's Tale, but don't take my word for it! [/reading rainbow]
But seriously, it's a good book.
I know you said no sci fi but: ALL the Ender's Game/Bean books are excellent. I read all those books a few years ago, they were excellent imo.
o.o Ender's Game is one of those books that i wish i could forget i ever read... not because it was horrible, but because i like it so much i wish i could re-read it again all shiny and brand new. Though after Ender's Game, while still great, the rest of the series just didn't have the same punch that it did.Originally Posted by Sera
I do not know if they have been mentioned already, if so I apologize.
The Player by Dostoyevsky
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is Sci - Fi but totally worth it.
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
The Stranger by Albert Camus
Enjoy~
A book i wish I could forget BECAUSE it was horrible
A Separate Peace
God, I fell asleep more than a dozen times reading it, it was awful.
And read Ender's Shadow -- its about Bean and I thought it was just as good as Ender's Game.
Ignore all the previous posts.
The Bourne Trilogy.
Already been mentioned, but anything by Chuck Palahniuk is a fast and extremely entertaining read.

George RR Martin for adult fantasy. Not like that you pervs. Really dark, violent "realistic" and complex characters. Characters can die in a flash (or slow and painfully), you have a genuine fear of peopel dying in his books. Complete 180 from authors such as R.A. Salvatore.Originally Posted by Intense
Drizzt vs an army of orcs? Drizzt's wins. Another character dies? Nope, just kidding, he'll be back in about 3 books so we can milk more money. I used to love Salvatore, but now I want him to die in a fire... take out Jordan too.
FUCK YOU WHEEL OF NOTHING HAPPENS BETWEEN BOOKS 4-9.

Only slightly, and maybe because it was the first Gemmell I read.
So sad, so true, that series had me gripped for ages and then completely lost me.Originally Posted by solsovly
Try House of Leaves by Danielewski. Like I mentioned, I didnt finish it. But it was right up my alley from what I did read. Another one I like is one called Play it as it Lays by Joan Didion. I had to read it for a class, but I ended up enjoying it. I cautiously recommend Didion though, not really everyones cup of tea.Originally Posted by Sera
I'll second (and third and fourth) the Ender's Game recommendation - truly one of the most awesome books I have ever read. I mainly read sci-fi/fantasy though, Gemmel is great, Peter F Hamilton is good too.
The Crow Road by Iain Banks is a great book to read.
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque.
Not everything. I read Lullaby because the concept sounded interesting. It sucked large whale rectum. Like 60% of the book is some hippy going on and on about how Europeans ruined the North American ecosystems by introducing foreign plants and animals.Originally Posted by Norelco
I actually liked Lullaby much more than Invisible Monsters. Favorites are still Survivor and Choke (and Fight Club of course).Originally Posted by Deftscythe
However there is that one scene where one of the main female characters has a bicurious encounter with some woman who's in love with her. That just came out of left field for me cuz there's really nothing as sexually graphic as that was anywhere else in the series.Originally Posted by solsovly
And yeah I gave up on Wheel of Time. I finished 1-10 before 11 came out, and just didn't feel like rereading all of them so I would remember what was going on for 11. Maybe when 12 comes out and I'm bored I'll reread the whole thing just to find out what happens at Tarmon Gaidon.
