Book recommendation thread

Despite the clearly religious overtones, The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis made for a very interesting read, as well as his Chronicles of Narnia series (which, imo, everyone should read at least once in their lifetime).

I loved Hamlet by good ole Willy Shakespeare, if you can handle the old english.

Brave New World, while already mentioned, was nothing short of excellent, and definitely worth a read.

Currently re-reading Christine by Stephen King, <3 that book. Too bad King has this annoying tendency to end books terribly (like IT, didn't much care for Cell's ending either, left me with way too many questions).

What was wrong with the ending on it? It's been a while since I read it but I remember it being good from start ot finish. Don't they all die at the end?

I know you said no sci fi but: ALL the Ender's Game/Bean books are excellent. I read all those books a few years ago, they were excellent imo.

I tend to stick to fantasy, my collection of books is primarily Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms >_>

Theros Ironfeld - Don Perrin (not so much as the rest, but still good)

The Forgotten Realms books I own are all R.A. Salvatore because I keep praying he'll learn to do what Weis and Hickman did - kill off original characters and bring in new Heroes/Villains.

Also, Jeff Grubb is a pretty good sci-fi/fantasy writer, Christine Goldman too.

Ursula K. Le Guin has some very good fantasy books. I read the whole "Wizard of Earthsea" series it was very good.

What is it about this book that everyone likes. I read it in High School and found it to be a horrible book yet everyone else seems to like it.

I just thought of another author/series that I read a long time ago and was excellent. The Dragon Prince and Dragon Star series by Melanie Rawn. 6 books in total, about people called Sunrunners, and it was just awesome. Read now.

I wanted to know if what he did at the end actually worked (don't wanna spoil it for those who haven't read it). And what was the actual cause of the Pulse? That's what pissed me off about it.

I havn't even picked up book 11 which is still staring at me from my bookshelf, other than a precursory look at another ridiculously long, ridiculously irrelevant prologue.

wow, you should really read it... it's the Best WoT book in ages. And the prologue rocks, the Galad section especially. >.>

I got ender's game from the library a week or 2 ago because I remembered it being recommended in this thread from when I read it long ago. I just finished it an hour ago and then I saw this thread was bumped so it is fate that I must also recommend it. I'm used to books having some slow parts but this was great all the way through.

I'll have to second Ender's Game. My favorite book (series). The rest of them are all good though, although some are admittedly slower paced and lengthy.
