I started a thread on the newbie board about it. It didn't seem like a subject most advanced players would care about, so I didn't want to put it here.

My friend and I both just got our Coastal Chocographs last night, after digging almost exclusively in Bush Chocograph areas since the update. So they're there, just have to keep at it.

Coastal = Buburimu, by the by.

I've use the costal chogograph once. It seems on my first try, it seems that you get 14 digs, and the treasure is about 20 yalms from the ??? spot. (At least that is how my first crack at it went, Jugner Forest is about 13 yalms.)

I'm on PS2, so I lack distance plugins, but that about squares up with my experience. I found the treasure pretty quickly (go go Treasure Finder ability and good intuitive sense for triangulation), but it definitely was farther from the ??? spot than I usually find the treasure when I'm in a Bush Chocograph area.

Given the text in the .dats for Yuhtunga/Yhoator and Altepa, I'm guessing that Buburimu leads to the jungles, and those locations have treasure that's harder to find (farther from the ??? spot than usual.) Valkurm would lead to Altepa, and those locations have treasure that allows fewer digs (given what you previously posted about getting less digs in Valkurm, Sept.)

In Buburimu, I got a Silver Shark and Roph got a Cupid Worm, so nothing spectacularly better yet.

I don't see how at least the currently-existing bush and prairie areas are fixed distances from the ???. I almost always do Bush (with the exception of last week I hit all the areas once to see if that would trigger the new graphs), and half the time I start out with "..." and half the time I start out with "Kweh." which suggests that it varies somewhat. I did notice though that it takes about half as many digs to get the treasure in prairie areas as it does in bush.

Speaking of which, hitting the jackpot owns. I saw it for the first time today when I was on my last dig and only 3 digs into the spot (typically takes me 5 or 6 in bush areas, no abilities). Not only did it give me an extra dig, but I got the chest on the next dig when normally I'd still need 1 or 2 more. Whistle Coupon ftw

What I have found when I dig is that if I go 13 from the ??? spot on the map I will almost always get a "Treasure is close" message. I have two characters, so I take turns with which one will stay at the ??? spot so the other can ride around it to find the treasure. (When the other character's dot hits the bottom of the "N" on your radar, that is about 13 distance.) I like to lock on, go into first person mode, and go in a circle around the other player, first digging in the cardinal directions, then hitting the ordinal direction if the Kweh appears in two points. (So if I dig at North and East and get Kwehs at both, the treasure will be Northeast.) Once I find the "treasure if close" zone, I move the other chocobo to the new location and do the same with a small radius to find it.

This method used to work well in Jugner as long as I had physical access to the ?? spot on the map (not in a mountain, river, rock, etc), but I think that they changed this in the last update. (A few times I have had to go to intermediate points around the radius to find the close message.)

I am thinking that I need a new method.

I finally got my first new chocograph yesterday:

I've played the game maybe 60% of the available days since it was added, and of those days, dug in a "bush" zone maybe 75-85% of the time and was successful about 98% of the time.

I was successful on my first attempt!
