Why Wii can never handle FFXI.

(or other MMORPG for that matter)

    http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/01/squar ... k-of-ffxi/

Btw, has this been posted already? I know its been posted that Wii won't have a FFXI port, but I don't think anyone ever posted why.

Bleh, so much for the Wii replacing PS2 ;/.

Then again, Final Fantasy XI on the Wii would surely be profitable even if gamers were required to enter over 300,000 12-digit codes to fully experience the world. That's how much, we suspect, Wii owners our clamoring for Nintendo to join the rest its brethren in this generation.
    I lol'd.

I remember reading this before, but I'm not sure where...

There's a small update that says the pokemon thing might not be for all games, but does Wii even have an HD?

Actually no.. The DS has the same thing, you play agaisnt others by entering in friend codes, however you can also let the network search automaticlly for you.

Wii is capable of the same thing. Its up to Nintendo to allow it or not on their games. I have no idea how POL would work on Wii, nor do I care, I dont see the point in having FFXI on Wii, but the Wii is capable of online play without codes.

Friend codes only exist because Nintendo is deathly afraid of being associated with some stalker/pedophile that tracks his victims over online games. Friend codes was their way of making a "stalker proof" system. I suppose I can understand their wanting to be cautious (since they were in last place during the last console gen), but I think they go a bit too far.

And as much as I hate Ol Ben for this whole daylight savings time fiasco, he put it best:

Can't a stalker just pretend to be a kid and get someone's code, etc.?

I don't have a Wii, but god damnit, pedos ruin every other website, I'm pretty damn sure if they want to touch some kid's Pokemon, it would be duoable.

To get the code in the first place, he'd have to meet the kid through another source and get him to give him his code there, this would most likely shift the media focus off of nintendo and onto myspace etc. (which is what Nintendo would definitely prefer). Bottom line is, he wouldn't find victims through nintendo

Also if you decide you don't like someone you can just take him off your list and you'll never see him again (meaning that Nintendo doesn't have to moderate in order to prevent harrassment).

Yeah, Nintendo doesn't want people giving out their code aimlessly. I even heard that posting your code on their official messageboards gets your account banned.

You don't have an "account" when you go online with the DS; unless you count the random scores and things they'll keep if you register with mynintendo.com

Nintendo won't do anything if you give out your FC online; they just tell you not to do it.

Friend codes are stupid, lol. The real challenge is for Nintendo to protect you from your own family, which has a much higher chance of fucking you up than any random person on the internet.

I don't know Xavier, we can't forget about the child predators that message children in Pictochat while driving down the highway!

I actually had a family come in to my store and say they would never buy a Nintendo DS because of that news report. . .
