IGN's top 25 PS2 games ever

not a chance, 12 is up there as best ff ever for me, although, as a game, i'd still have 10 because it revolutionized using voices during cg.

And yeah everything on that list seems pretty old. Jak and Daxter, the first one, came out atleast 5 years+ ago I'd say. And that R&C game is pretty old too. So is Twisted Metal, and the GTA games.

But is anything new REALLY that great?

I'd replace GTA 3 and San Andreas with Vice City, because Vice was bigger and still fresh compared to SA.

Vice City is so superior to SA and the original III in so many ways. SA took it over the top in terms of ghettoness. VC perfected the feel of 1980s Miami and really immersed you, neither of the other 2 did. On that note, has anyone played VC stories? Is it worth it?

And I don't think GoW is a watered down version of DMC, I personally like DMC3 best, and I think both games are great.

I'm pretty sure I could turn up 10+ posts in the former FFXII section where you didn't think it sucked. Of course we're all allowed to change our minds, so now a few months after the fact you can say 'Oh, 12 sucked,' but if you go back and look at what you said when you were playing it, then... So, which is it? It's fun when you are into it, but it sucks when you're not?

FF12 has been out just long enough that people are done with it and can look back at their enjoying it and be ashamed, for whatever reasons people do such things. FF10 is now in the role of "FF(current -1)" which we all know is always better than "FF(current)"

"Ghettoness"? You think VC is better than SA simply because of a taste of flavor? That is like saying 1 FF is better than another because one of is futuristic and the other is fantasy. Oh wait! People do that already.

Opinions(or nostalgia) aside, SA had everything VC had, but built onto it so much more. On the other hand, VC was basically a modded GTAIII with motorcycles, funky shirts, and 80s music playing on the radio.

GTAIII created a whole new sub-genre. It didn't evolve or change for a long time, until SA came around.

Half the people who have strong opinions on games hardly critique in a good manner. Just like with above, it's basically all nostalgia and fluff without looking at the games in serious manner. Its like comparing movie critics to some dude who says "DUDE, HE JUST BLEW HIS HEAD OFF WITH A SHOTGUN" and thinks its the best movie of all time. It's not just the Madden fans you have to worry about ;/. I think IGN is a lot like the group I described.

You're right. I preferred the Miami Vice setting more than the LBC setting this is true. They are both good games.

if Ico explained everything that happens in SoTC then i apologise for this post, cos i haven't played Ico (don't even know if Ico is a prequel to SoTC or not).

SoTC while new and quite fun to play at certain times, lacked explanation of the story. Was nobody else like "OK...but what the hell is that black stuff that just made its way into me?", "who the hell is this girl or main character for that matter", "how'd the girl die in the first place?", "what exactly ARE the collosi?"

seriously though, looking at screens of Ico, it looks like it had nothing to do with SoTC at all

Ueda likes to have abstract stories told more through physical interaction of characters rather than cutscenes and dialogue. Ico's story was equally obtuse, and if you weren't paying attention to some of the character's basic movements and acts then you probably missed the whole game..

EDIT: And to the guy that asked what Rez was about... it's just Rez. At it's heart it's a rail shooter, but there's just so much more to it that pigeonholing it in that genre doesn't do it justice. It also sounds like total shit if someone tries to explain it to you, so do yourself a favor and track down a copy.
