Frank Miller. The guy who saved Batman from being a homo in tights who keeps an underage boy in a cave. The guy who gave us Sin City. The guy who inspired Samurai Jack.

    Yeah, not worth knowing, right?
    Sin city was amazing but I kinda fell out of the samurai jack universe , wish i hadn't ;;
Frank Miller does some really amazing work. He's contributed a lot to characters that I found uninteresting such as Batman and Daredevil. I'm not saying Batman or Daredevil suck, I'm just saying I was never all that interested in them before Frank Miller started writing them. He brought Batman back to status quo. After the old days of comics in which Batman was some "for-kids" kinda comic, Miller turned him back to being closer to his original incarnation in The Dark Knight Returns. After it was released, Miller received tons of hate mail, not from the readers, but the former writers of Batman.

And his original stories are superb such as 300, Ronin, and Sin City. Ronin was what inspired Genndy Tartakovski to create Samurai Jack. Well, half of what inspired him, the other half was a comic series called Lone Wolf and Cub. It's about a Samurai who has a magic sword and battles a shape-shifting demon and gets thrown into the future where the shape-shifter is running shit now. Sound familiar?

To me, my favorite part of 300, the movie, was how well the makeup and character designs tailored to Miller's style of drawing. (They achieved a similar effect for Marv in the Sin City movie.) His characters always have such a grizzly, manly, ugly look about them. And when seeing the way those "mutants" in the Persian army looked, I was pretty impressed with the transition of pages to screen.

It's pretty easy to take a movie for its face value and say it sucks, but to actually analyze it, the back story, and the process of making the film, it's a lot easier to appreciate it.

And I REALLY hope his "Ronin" series becomes a movie soon.

    Edit:
And it's really sad that we'll probably never see Samurai Jack's story finish up. Aku's voice actor died of cancer a few years ago.

Other than his run on Daredevil, I've never much cared for Frank Miller, I could really care less for his artwork, it's too bad so may people try to imitate him of late. My biggest problum with all the 300/Sin City hype is all the credit that Frank Miller is getting for them. I thought both movies we're fantastic and completly woth seeing/owning from a visual standpoint, but I didn't think either was particularaly well written and meanwhile everyones slobbering all over Frank Miller because of how good 300 was.

I just think it's too bad Frank Miller has been lifted to legendary status through the merit of his Directors/CG animators. While a truly great writer like Alan Moore has his Comics Butchered when transferred into movie.

I'm willing to think he's gotten better at screenwriting and his relationship with directors has improved since 1993, but there's a lot of brainless 'omg me too' douchebaggery writ dissenting opinions going on of late in General Disc. The second someone disagrees with you it's 'go die in a fire' or 'lol ur opninion sux gtfo.' Grow the fuck up, please.
    Shut the fuck up, please.
I'm still on page 1 but I had to catch this, you don't tell Correction to stfu.

I think my friend summed it up best: "Lame plot, horrible dialog, fight scenes weren't as good as Gladiator".

I would like to add in "bullet time needs to burn in hell".

Seriously, 300 hot guys in subligaria and I was still bored 30 minutes into the film.

And anyone who tells me to stfu needs to gtfo.

It was a different kind of gayness though. None of the limp-wristed mincing about that was popularized in 'Queer Eye' and 'Will & Grace.'

Wait i thought it was the greeks in Athens that practiced homosexuality and not the Spartans?

Oh well learn something new every day.

Makes ya wonder though, if even the manliest of manly men like the Spartans can get gay with eachother, whats our excuse?

Except for the whole subligar part, I concur good sir. The whole slow-motion thing was just blah

I bet if they cut the whole slow motion thing out the movie would be like 45minutes.

Also did anyone make the "IT'LL BE 301" yet?

I thought the movie was made of win, pure & simple. While I'd like to disagree with anyone who said it sucked, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Like it matters anyway though, the movies earnings and huge fan feedback speaks for itself.

That's sad to hear. I always wondered why it sort of dropped off. I fucking loved Samurai Jack.

While you can attribute Robocop 3's fail to Frank Miller, his additions to the Robocop 2 script were gradually edited out.

I agree with you completely, although I wouldn't call the movie horrible, and well, I'd never call it great. I read someone else comment on the queen's speech, too-- man, that just made me groan. "Freedom isn't free." Awful. That whole subplot with the politics is dead screen time.

Oh, and about the action. Not to bash the stylistic approach of the movie itself, I just sort of think the mere premise of the 300 spartans that held back an army of approx. a million+ doesn't need to be made cooler; It's already cool enough as it is. But there's that point, where it becomes over-the-top. Yes, I know, it is based on graphic novel-- but (in this writer's opinion) the cool factor comes from the amazing historical premise, not the videogame-likeness of a lv60 ogre midboss.

    Goddamn Fanboys on the internets.
