Omg that is hilarious. So much icecream and cake.
Ok first off i'd just like to say off that bat i'm greek and im actually a spartan. The story line from the myth was skewed ALOT. There was actuall 10,000 greeks not just 300 spartans. There were no LOTR monster shit for persians nor elephants or rhinosaures(sp?). Also in the end there were 1000 greeks only 300 being spartans. The reason no one sent men because of religious reasons (they got that part right at least). Also the traitors name literally translates to nightmare (i forget the actual name of him in greek.) I am unaware that if at the time they had a word for nightmare or they just defined it then and there due to the fact of his deeds. All in all it would have been a much better movie if not for all the LOTR shit with the sword for arms and the crazy teeth. Though the elephants and rhino were tolerable
Well it was based on a comic based on the battle.Originally Posted by LinktheDeme

Way.
You mean hook-hands guy and 8 foot tall "I am a God" Xerxes and the chained ogre and the 3 story elephants might have been embellishments?
Is this an appropriate place for an Amazing Discovery?
I was just trying to make a point that it was a retarded touch and would have been better without it. Troy didnt have retarded shit like that and it was a much better movie because of it.Originally Posted by Melchiah
And thats also the big reason why the persians are sueing the person who filmed the movie or something along that line. Then again in america everyone will get sued for one reason or another
It wasn't retarded. It was art. Miller wrote 300 in such a way as to give the reader the image of a grandiose, over-the-top embellished account of the battle. We have already been over this. Go back and re-read the 300 threads.Originally Posted by LinktheDeme
Also the statement about the persians suing anyone... that put a grin on my face. Who are the persians again? Iraqis? Iranians? Kuwaitis? Persia is no more, hasn't been for hundreds of years. And lol at suing over this. I think I'm going to say you yanked that one out of your ass.
Have you read 300? None of that was in it, lol. Leonidas didnt fight an ogre. There was no rhino. There was no fat dude with sword arms. I think the movie was amazing but stop using "its a book" as a defense. It was a book based on actual events, skewed to sound better, then it was a movie based on a book skewed to look better. By the way, LOL at saying Troy was a good movie.
Yeah it's been done before; few against many, overcoming insurmountable odds and the like. The point that I think people are missing is how willing the men were to die for their leader, the unwavering dedication to their families, to their friends, and to their comrades. Could you imagine what it would feel like to stand in front of a force that large and fight back without care for your own well being?
And really for anyone bitching about political undertones and the like, please grow the fuck up already.
The men that died in that battle must've known full well that not a single Spartan was going to come back alive, and they embraced it with open arms. If that isn't beautiful then I don't know what is.
Comic Books, or graphic novels in this case, are by their very nature skewed, larger-than-life, over-the-top fantastic accounts. They are that way because they are cooler to experience. This is the point I'm trying to drive at, regardless of what was in the book vs what was in the movie. The feel they were going for was the comic book exaggerations... Jesus why do so many people keep missing this?Originally Posted by Anyway
Edit: I agree with you completely Anyway, but I'm not defending anything, I'm pointing out the durrrrrrrr that must be invoked for people to try and play the historical accuracy card. It should be fucking obvious that this is entertainment.
The spartans were also butt ass wang hanging out naked in the book too, well except the cape, yet that wasn't in the movie. Why doesn't everyone go cry about that?
Hmm... Now that's a movie I want to watch. :DOriginally Posted by Anyway
(But I do love the subligaria so...)
Because most of the ones doing the crying wouldn't want to say anything that might make them sound a little homosexual.Originally Posted by Anyway

Over?
They say 300 is a metaphor for the US Iran beef. Their saying the Spartains are Americans and the Persian empire is Iran. You know how the Persians look like fags and are barbarians with ogres and shit like that.
omfg this would have made the movie so much BETTER.Originally Posted by Anyway
But I must agree with Sept, all of them looked fucking hooootttttttttt in their subligars.
