When did i say Microsoft was getting FF13? I already know that they've offered something rediculous like 70% of the production costs for it,and SE still did not accept. And i'm quite fine with that lol.

SE has stated numerous times that they want their games to be played. If PS3 continues to suck sales wise then why the hell wouldnt we see a port? No one is "turning their backs" on anyone, this isnt fucking highschool lol.

Your only reasoning for them not porting their games is some lame ass bullshit about them being faithfull to sony. Like i said, if DQ is going to be made for DS and Wii, then uh... whats stopping them from developing games for microsoft?

Microsoft already said no to the HD DVD player playing games because they dont want to force their fanbase to buy it.

But wow, Xbox wont get a port because theres too many discs? Are you serious? Blue Dragon is a 3 disc set and sales seem to be going quite well, lol. FF7 was what, 4 discs? Add to the fact that you can dual layer the xbox dvd's as well, or maybe even compress files?

Saying that theres no chance they will be ported is stupid when BOTH of their predecessors have been ported. (I'm looking at you FFXI and MGS2!)

You have no idea how fanboyish you sound do you?

It doesn't matter how many consoles Sony sell by the time FF13 is out (and it will be a lot more because Lair and Heavenly Sword, as well as MGS4 and DMC4, will already be out by then), because FF13 by itself will sell more than that... i'm sure SE isn't freightened by the low numbers.

And like stated earlier, DQ was brought over to the DS because it's the most popular at the moment, and you can't compare the DS to the PS3 because one is a console and the other is a damn handheld, it's like that other thread where someone laughed at how the GBA sells more than the PS3... they're not in the same field, so why does it matter?

MGS4 won't be ported because Kojima is an arrogant bastard that wants everything on 1 cd... and MGS is not FF, so why bother comparing it to the PSX titles that carried 4 discs (and FF7 was 3, not 4.) Also, Sony and Konami want to work on an MGS movie from what I understand, so that's another reason why MGS4 won't be ported over so easily.

I didn't know the thing that MS said about the HD-DVD and it kind of sucks, because I would've bought it if I knew that I could play HD-DVD games on it... but whatever, 360's been doing fine this far with DVDs (Gears of War anymore?)

I'm not really trying to keep this console debate with you... I love my 360, and I love my PS3. I get whatever good comes along that I know I will actually play, regardless of what console it comes on. I also agree with you that Sony did everything horribly from day one, but that didn't stop me from purchasing their product (that, and the fact my PS2 died had a lot to do with it because I wasn't about to pay another 150 dollars for a new PS2, when I knew I would eventually pick up the PS3 anyways)... sure, there aren't a lot of games yet, but I believe that after Lair and Heavenly Sword come out, I will have more use for it (currently all I got is Motorstorm and Resistance, which are fun... but they are by no means console sellers.)

I'm talking about MGS4.... he already stated that the reason MGS4 was pushed back was because he wanted it all on a single layer 50gig bluray disc.

Not true, SE has no contract to soley release the main series on PS systems. However SE knows Sony heavily relies on the FF franchise and SE stated that they dont wish to see the PS3 fail. FF13 will be released on the PS3, but if the PS3 continues to do poorly, I wouldnt be surprised to see a port of FF13 even if its just to PC, or a move to another system.

I love FF games, but I wouldnt buy a 600$ console to play one.
With the exception of FFXI, SE has no fucking clue how to do a port. Look at ff7 and 8 compared from psx and pc. So many fucking bugs. I still have nightmares from having to do technical support for FF8 when I worked at EA. You don't know pain till you have some 16 year old fuck tard who just blew 400 dollars of mommy's money on a geforce card screaming in your ear that it doesn't work with ff8 pc.

I dont have any gripes with you picking PS3 over 360. The only problem i had was you stating that FF and MGS will never be ported. Because the same people said DMC, GTA, Assin's Creed, VFighter and now lol Armored Core would never see the light of day on a microsoft system and look at what happend.

I have a feeling Lair is going to sell as many PS3s as Panzer Dragoon did for the original xbox.

I'd be counting on the new Home system more than anything else if I were you.

Exo, youre on the verge on being a 'fanboy' even if you have all 3 systems.

The truth is you dont know if MGS will go multi or not, hell its even been a rumor before, he was asked this question and he didnt say 'no, never'.

The only reason PS3 is still alive is because of the PS record and the promise of future games.

If the PS3 was the new system (neogeo, cd-i, phantom, etc) Sony would be out of the race by now. Theyre lucky theyre still in it, and they better hope that no more series will jump ship on them.

PS3 would do so much better if they droped the price. I know there are people out there that would not pay 600$ no matter how many AAA games there are. And aside games make money, not consoles, Wii was the first console to ever make profit out of the gate. If more PS3s are sold, more people are buying games for the PS3 and thusly putting revenue back in Sonys pocket.

Im a fan of PS/2, FF13 looks good, Home looks fun, im not a fan of MGS or GTA anyway, but for 600$ lol, I can spend that on something more worth while than on video games.

It's a 600$ entertainment center. As much as you'd like it to only be 400$, it's not gonna happen for quite sometime. I dunno about anyone else, but I didn't get my PS2 "just" for the games, and it will be the same once I get a PS3. And it's a 600$ blue ray player to boot(+for some I guess).

If people are buying it for the Bluray.. then why? I see so many of these people saying they want the best TVs and the best video and audio.. then why are you buying a PS3 with a crapy version BD player? If you want the most out of a BD disk youll have to buy a seperate player. Spend 200~300$ more to buy a better longer lasting player then.

It was the same with PS2, watching DVDs on a PS2 is lolable when you have an actual DVD player, there is a huge quality difference.

I suppose it is a 'nice extra', but I dont want a BD player, and im not the only one. A very small %age of Americans are HD ready in any case, and the majority are happy with lolDVD quality.

I hope you guys realize that splitting a game onto several discs is way more hassle then it's worth right? If they could've fit FFVII and VIII on 1 or 2 discs you bet your ass they would.

I lol'd when I hear people go "CHANGING DISCS ISN'T SO BAD!11", yeah, it's not bad for you it's just bad for the people making the bloody game. Kojima already ran outta space on a 50gig Bluray dual layer (I think) and requested a triple or quad layer disc (again, bluray technicals aren't my suit). And if Bluray is so much bigger then HD-DVD then you realise how much crap needs to be done to get it on the 360 at an acceptable quality? You might as well not bother and it's the same with FFXIII.

That's not to say there WON'T be a MGS or FF game on the 360, just don't expect those games to be on it.

Well, HD can add layers too, so in the end its kind of pointless.

But yeah, doing a multi disk game is a pain for developers. Lets say you have 2 disks.. your options are

    A) go full out with graphcis and such so that all the towns/etc you see work for the first part of the game, and when switching to the second disk you can continue to see other towns etc, but wont be able to go to previous towns unless you want to switch disks again. This way would be more of a hassle, but you can still get the full quality out of it.

    B) would be the way FF multi disks are done, reduce quality of the textures for towns, etc so that the whole game can be fit on one disk, but only have certian cutscenes on seperate disks, so when you do switch to a different disk, you can visit previous towns, etc. This way is a bit easier, but youre surrending quality.

With MGS.. he knows these issues, but if you seriously cant fit all the textures/sounds/etc on to 1 50gb disk... thats insane. He could split the movies on to two disks and do it the way FF did and still have the quality of it being on one disk, but yeah, just having it on one disk is a lot easier.

is precisely it. I also know HDDVD can add layers too, but if Kojima needs more on bluray won't the cost of adding the same on HDDVD be higher? I mean, isn't 1 dual layer HD 30 gig and 1 dual layer BD 50 gig? So to reach 50 gigs on HD you'd need at least 4 layers (12cm), wouldn't that be a bit expensive? And if Kojima is going over 50 gig he'd only need a triple layer. that is if he decides not ot do it 2 BD discs, which wouldn't be much of a problem if the game is linear but then you'd have to split the game up even more on HD DVD. again, while possible I don't see MGS 4 coming on 360, although anything can happen.

well, I don't know much but half of that is speculation, correct me where ever.

Rock*(star) is doing 2 different versions of GTAIV

1 team for the PS3, 1 team for the 360

Later on there will be different downloadable content for the 360/PS3
(Some things 360 will have, some PS3 will have)

Smart move by Rockstar, want the whole encompassing feel of the game, buy it twice ROFFLES!

Seph, while HD-DVD could have double layers as well, the 360 doesn't support HD-DVD games, so that's out of the question really, UNLESS they do something with the HD-DVD (which I understand now they won't because they don't want to force their fanbase into a 200 dollar player.)

And the fact I don't think MGS/FF will come to the 360 doesn't have anything to do with me liking Sony better, I just think that it will be extremely hard to do, given the fact that each of these games will take a LOT of space, and if they were to bring these games over you would be surrendering quality, and that's besides the point that the games will come in 6-7 DVD packages, which will bump the price up (and lower the graphics), at which point it would just be an easier choice to pick it up on the PS3.

I'm not saying it'll NEVER happen, because never say never, especially in this industry. But it's highly unlikely unless MS does something with their HD-DVD drive.

-Kojima said he'd run out of space on a 25gb bluray disc, not dual layer. I don't believe the ps3 could read a triple layer disc.

-Just because a game on the ps3 takes 50GBs doesn't necessarily mean it'll take 50GB on the 360. Different architectures. Like for instance, Resistance takes up 18-22GB lol, do you all believe if that game was on the 360 it would require 2-3 discs? Oblivion took 4.5GB on the 360 and most of that space was used on audio. Microsoft, being the software company, has better compression technologies. Go read up on procedural synthesis for instance. http://arstechnica.com/articles/paed...box360-1.ars/1

-Kojima already mentioned he's not adverse to using multiple discs on the 360 and when asked about a 360 version of MGS4, he responded with "MGS4 is actually for the PS3 only so far." That doesn't sound like never to me.

my bad, I got mixed up. I know about the different platforms different architectures, but a game that big is going to have some transistional issues.

What this means in terms of PS3 sales is that even IF MGS 4 comes out on the 360, it may take a while, during that time it will shift a lot more PS3 then if both versions came out together. Sure people can wait, but they aren't exactly inclined too. Still I remain by most of what I said before if you just lower the sizes down.

That was a very interesting read Semitry, I had forgotten about how Oblivion only took a fraction of the disc space, despite how massive the game is. I guess this kinda puts the whole argument about games that wont fit on a single disc for the 360 up in the air.

I would love to know exactly how much 360's architecture could compress a game, like a ballpark ratio.

I know audio and fmv eat up alot of space, which explains why Blue Dragon was split on two discs, since it has alot of fmv like most japanese rpgs.

If I remember correctly MGS used in-game graphics for cutscenes, not fmv. So it might actually be possible for a MGS port to 360, technologically speaking. It still wouldn't matter if they don't want to do it.

I guess it just depends on the game.

EDIT: The fact that the 360's cpu generates geometry on the fly might also explains why it makes more noise than than the other systems.

Creating 25 to 50GB of content for 1 game takes a really long time and costs a hell of a lot of money, unless you're just not compressing things. It's quite possible MGS4 is so huge because they're just not compressing the audio or any video very much. I'm sure they could port it to a DVD9 if they really wanted to. Also, some huge PS3 games are actually not really that big either. They just mirror content in several locations on the disc to improve load times. I personally don't care which consoles get which games as long as the games are good. I don't own any next-gen consoles yet btw, although I would buy a Wii if I could find one.
