It looks like Lu has a gothic theme in her works. The black/white/red brings it out especially. Nothing wrong with the theme either; just BRP thinks that all FFXI-related stuff should have a graphic style/cutesy-manga theme.

Personally I agree with most of the stuff that people are saying. There is a couple of bad pieces of art up there and a lot of very good art. My main feeling is it really really bugs me when you can see the photoshop brush or effect used in the art piece. Like the one pic that uses the leaf brush and grass brush. Or even in the picture with the drk the character is really well drawn (reguardless if it is ffxi enough or not) but the background ruins it for me because of the brush circles. its not that hard to make your own brush or blend it together so you cannot see the circles.

The picture in 1st place is horrible compared to anything else entered. Was this an open vote where people could vote on a website to choose the winner? If so it might explain why such a shitty drawn picture won.

No shit, why shouldn't someone be berated for acting as some sort of authoritative figure and standard on something that in of itself is nothing but subjective and interpretive. You're not seeing the point, he can feel free to interpret it how he wants, he crosses a whole other line into the realm of authoritative stupidity by typing out a fucking 4 paragraph diatribe about how it's unrelated to XI when it clearly is.

He has a strong opinion about why it wasn't chosen. Rather than post two lines that would get ignored or mistaken for trolling, noting the concentration of people in this thread who liked that image, he posted a long argument detailing his opinions that was, surprise, the latter.
