Meh. He does make a few good points about the DRK pic, and he's entitled to his opinion, even though I don't completely agree with him. Its obvious that the DRK is an exaggeration of what a real FFXI DRK looks like, but to me it bears enough resemblance to get by.

It helps that the character is clearly wearing some DRK AF and Homam stuff. Plus the art style is freakishly awesome, which makes up for anything I could ever find wrong with it.

No love for the Ifrit Prize: Autumn Assault? I dunno what it is but I'm loving the style of this one.

The "leaves brush" fails it, imo.

"leaves" + "grass" brush combo = ultimate failure

Shit, I was really impressed by that picture at first but I hadn't realized that it used a bunch of default brushes....

You ask what about the DRK picture is FFXI related??? Well genious its far easier to ask what about the pic is not. And the only thing on the whole pic that makes it more of a ffxi remix, is the fact that the skin is pasty white, which makes it look more gothic, and the color swap in the Homam abdomen area. But leave it to BRP to find something to bitch about. You say only the homam gear makes it look FFXI... well smart guy... the character is decked from head to toe in DRK AF and Homam gear. So what else besides the skin color, and homam color swap on the body makes it look not related to FFXI as much as anything else in the contest? What else in the entire pic make the Drk not fit the part of a DRK in ffxi??

The problem with your opinions BRP is that you prove countless times that you are unable to express your said opinion without being a dick about the whole thing, and trying to act so superior, inventing arguments, making up imaginary typing dysfunctions, all in a desperate desperate desperate attempt to dodge the point, and appear as witty as you possibly can. I was going to response to BRP's post before but he's such a minority that I didn't bother. However, the way he chose to critique the picture was in poor taste. He offered a childish backlash at the thing almost as if he's making it a point to be different and negative vs actually talking about the artwork. "GOD WHAT A STUPID SCYTHE." I equate the situation to a nerd making fun of a beautiful girl because he doesn't like her hair color. No point in getting bent out of shape over it.

Arguing that lucretia's picture doesn't fit the spirit of a FFXI art contest is pretty damn retarded. You can dislike the picture, that's a matter of taste in art and can't really be argued over (well, it shouldn't be.. of course, this is the internet, anything CAN be argued over).

If her rendition of her character doesn't belong because the style is more ghostly and dark than the in game FFXI style, then you better go complain to Yoshitaka Amano, cause that's basically how he does it too. Look at the Amano wallpapers in POL, or at his map of Vana'diel (conquest territories) that was used for the 4 page unfolding cover of the "FINAL FANTASY XI" Original Soundtrack Limited Edition. Hell, look at a close up of the FFXI logo art.

Amano's character designs have never been fully reflected in the games, aside from the model design for the CG cutscenes in the old game remakes. That doesn't make his art "not FF".

I'm sorry that you do not think my picture is ff style, I studied Yoshitaka Amano's artwork (along with Giger, and others... ) for a long time during art school. He has often used a
3 colour painting style with white, black and red as the main basis. The picture started as a study of the curving shapes of a character's pose and since it took me only a week I didn't have time to correct the flaws in perspective that even I can see.

plus, have you never played dynamis? FF11 is not all sunshine and fairies and if you think that then I'm sorry for your lack of imagination.

Please, show me how you would interpret the part of the game you enjoy, and I will promise not to call it stupid. ^^ We are all entitled to our opinions.

Tell your friends now, we will end up having probably three different catergorys and work out a nice reward for the winner of each. There's a difference between personal interpretation of given elements and then creating something that has nothing of the sort. To the Amano argument:

And I don't remember saying the picture wasn't "FF"ish, I said it wasn't "FFXI"ish(which I think was mentioned as well). Amano did some pretty covers(and wallpapers), but otherwise his artwork has barely had an effect in the game's art direction. He took no part in the concept drawing of characters. And his style isn't used in the game at all, save covers.

Do you mean an art contest or do you want me to explain what I mean by Vana'diel/adventurer flavor? Well, I don't draw art, so I think a contest between us wouldn't prove much. I agree you are superior one at drawing, if that is what you want to hear.

If I offended you, that wasn't my intention. I am critiquing something, I'm not going to hold back any blows when they are due just because the whole thing overall is nice. I didn't hold back any blows when I was talking about that manthra pic or beastmen lady pic.

It is nice btw, I suggest you have a thicker skin and focus on the whole thing being said. Concerning the actual picture, the only thing that sticks out as bad is the scythe. Take that as constructive criticism.

I am not so easily wow'd by a very nicely drawn picture. It's like you say, it's about imagination. You say I lack it, but right now, it's what making me say that this picture lacks a certain kind of it. I'm saying you could take this picture and put it on anything with scythes and armor and pale-skinned necromancer-like people(which to no surprise the fantasy genre doesn't lacks items that combines these), and it would fit perfect. It is just a tad bit too generic.

Now should every FFXI picture look the same? Um, of course not, and people are misunderstanding that by a lot. But in a FFXI contest, the correct flavor should be present. The first thing I noticed about your set was the Homam(mixed with the DRK Artifact), which is from FFXI, but outside of that it seems almost alien. The white skin just instantly throws out the relation.

Overall, the picture is nice, so try not to throw a fuss. A lot of people like it, I like it too.

To Lulu, part 2:

Now I know there are things like Dynamis in FFXI. I didn't say its flavor was all that cheerful. Actually, one could say FFXI has a wide spectrum. It's just not THAT wide. When I look at your picture, I do not see Dynamis. Dynamis is dark yes, and your picture seems to be dark too. However, nothing ties it to Dynamis beyond that. I mean Dark Knights are not even related to Dynamis. If anything looks like your Dark Knight, it would be the Arc Angels. I mean, you should have just called it that, it would be less of a stretch. But anyway, I'm getting off the point: FFXI is dark at times, but not that kind of dark.

You are getting much more offended than you should be. I'm only pointing this out in comparison to other pictures in the contest that does have a lot of flavor. Considering that FFXI fan art probably makes up much less than 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000001% of all the drawings in the world, I would be less worried.

Hopefully, you got the point and this is just to make for a lack of argument. They are both fantasy games. However, they have elements that separate them. How the hell is it not ffXIish??? there are only 2 elements that are remotely non ffxi and that is the face color and homam color swap on the specific area... Youre argument is retarded. Your whole Stupid argument is based on like 5% of the entire piece of art. You say only the homam dark af make it ffxi.. when the Homam Drk AF IS the picture.

Next thing you know, youlll once again prove the douche you are by arguing that the following Pic is not ffxi simply because its a male mithra instead, arguing about 5% of the overall pic compared to the other 95%
