Max emmity/haste. I also have a macro that puts on -25% magic damage reduced for those times when turning a corner you know you are going to get hit with Stonega.
From what I understand, hate doesn't diminish if you are out of range for an extended period of time, but actions you take outside a particular range do not generate enmity vs the monster. Check out http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Distance - it says 30'. So, if you are casting Cure or using Warcry and the like from outside that range, it won't affect your hate. I actually use it to my advantage as a RNG - I wait til Kirin is far and then Warcry, then move in for the kill (since using Warcry in mob's faces has gotten me owned a couple times lol).
WHM/NIN with gaiters?
sorry for necro D:
please explain/make youtube video of how to kite kirin properly, as in to keep his tp moves saying out of range or whatever it is it says D: i would be so grateful thanks D:
my ls is not very good at kiting kirin and so i decided i will do it for them on my rdm but i have no idea how to do it T_T
Don't need gaiters if he's casting half of the time.
Basically, he casts long enough for you to run out of range (30'), always have movement speed+ gear on, and you should generally be 10~ feet away from him while he spams TP moves, when he casts, or after Tail Smash (bind), cast shadows etc. If you're far enough away, flash/stun/poison/dispel etc for hate. Kite around CCW if your add team is located near the tunnel. Spam spells during StoneIV/Quake/Rasp, run from Aga.
wow necro >_> should've started a new topic
This reminds me of when we let our BSTs kite kirin back when PLDs were always /war D:
i can't search forum topic for the word kite because the word is too short ; ; so i deicded to just bump this one and ask
With no movement speed gear, he's gonna catch up to you. Especially when you need to stop and do an action on him (Stun, Kurayami, Flash, etc). Just remember, if low hp, keep running until he stops to cast Quake or you get cured. But really, you're only gonna die if you get caught with no shadows (or stoneskin I guess, but I've only kited as PLD/NIN and NIN/DRK). Or he decides to spam Whirlwind/Sandstorm back to back, each doing 650+ and you get hit with each. Taru HP sucks.
Or you get bound and don't get erased fast enough. A Deadly Hold to the face or back to back Whirlwind/Sandstorm can end your day fast. Or a Stonega 4 if you don't run out of range fast enough, but that is less likely to happen if you aren't hugging him. For Stonega also, if he starts casting, run in a straight line way from him and do not stop. Unsure on the distance, but I believe an LS member got hit with a spell when he was over 30' from him, but not sure.
Also, Quake is your number one fan. If he starts casting it, run within casting range and just spam spells. And as another person said, don't bother using any JA if he is too far from you. I play on PS2, so no distance plugin, so I make sure that any JA I use is also within casting range of him. Which usually isn't an issue if hate is on you.
As for gear:
Stun/Aspir(Yes Aspir, CE)/Kurayami/Bind/Blind/Flash/Etc: Mix of haste and enmity.
JA: Enmity
No Action: Auto-Refresh pieces if applicable. I fulltime Ethereal as well for PLD, mainly though because I don't have Enmity earrings.
Put in HP gear where you can't put Enmity/Haste for the rest of the slots. Use what you can afford/have available. Most of my gear is AH stuff aside from a few R/E pieces.
What I've found is the best way to kite kirin is like somebody else said further up, avoid taking -any- damage at all, honestly, the only things that should be able to ever hit you is whirlwinds and heat breaths, sometimes they are impossible to avoid, but what I try to do on kirin is to only use my fast casting spells (Stun, sometimes bind, possibly also bio, for rdm you should have no problem getting off dispel/bind/bio because of the fastcast.) for hate unless he stops to cast, or somebody else pulls hate. You'll lose a huge chunk of emnity when you take a hit from whirlwind.
I suggest wearing something along the lines of:
Weapons: 2 macu +1's
Head: AF1, you shouldn't really be having mp problems, if you are you could use af2 when your mp pool gets low.
Neck: Harm torque or ritter gorget
Earrings: Loq/Eris
Body: Dalm/af2/crimson if you have it, I don't really rdm tank anything, not sure of alternative body pieces.
Hands: Anything that gives MDB+ or magic damage-, again, I don't use my rdm for tanking so I'm not sure outside of dusk gloves, and they shouldn't be used for kiting.
Rings: Mermaids/Sattva(if you have it), if you have neither you could use BQ to make sure you have enough hp to live after astral flow.
Back: Cerberus/High breath mantle
Waist: Swift belt/warolf belt
Legs: Crimson cuisses
Feet: again, not sure of what a rdm would use here for tanking, dusk is out of the question because of -movement speed.
I've been thinking of using rdm/nin for kiting kirin instead of ninja, just because of the fulltime 12% movement, and by the time the melee's get into the ally you should have enough emnity built up that it wont be a problem. We've just been tp burning kirin lately though.
Kirin is tons of fun to kite, but it seems like I'm the only person who enjoys it. >.>
I want to speed up our fights. What exactly do you guys go ahead and do at this point?(if you can convince your shell to meleeburn it after astral flow- which is doable by about any shell with sky experience TBH)
Make sure your mages understand that choke has to be erased immediately. There's nothing worse than seeing your Erase remove a choke whilst your tank is still bound...Originally Posted by Mosh
This is what I use for kiting/straight tanking Kirin. And I still use /WAR for Defender but I will get that to after the equipment. I am an Elvaan with 4 HP merits. And in general we use two tanks for Kirin to prevent worries.
Aquilo's Staff/Axe Grip/Ungar Boomerang/
Genbu's Kabuto/Harmonia Torque/Eris Earring/Eris Earring
Arhat's Gi +1/Seiryu's Kote/Mermaid Ring/Bomb Queen Ring
Cerberus Mantle (or High Breath Mantle)/Lieutenant's Sash/Koga Hakama/Usukane Sune-ate or Ninja Kyahan +1
The goal of this set up is to make it so that I can't be one shotted by Great Whirlwind which is Kirin's strongest move, and with this gear it is achievable without food. The only time I die on this set up is Stonega immediately followed by Deadly Hold.
For kiting this gear is fine, but we straight tank Kirin most of the time and this gear also good for that. My LS is very melee heavy and straight tanking massively reduces the amount of time that it takes to kill Kirin. It is a bit MP exhaustive, but if the healers start to get low on MP you can just start kiting again. For straight tanking just make sure that there is a mage in each party for Barstonera and eat Stonega. The only real risk is from Astral Flow and only because it strips shadows like a Stonega. We also have our DD come /THF mostly to assist with hate control because for good two-handers accuracy isn't that much of a pain and sushi makes TP build relative easy. Once I have a SATA or two on me I will switch out some of the enmity for more magic damage reduction. If most of your DD's are BLM and RNG this isn't as much of an option, but even with a SAM/THF or two I have been able to hold Kirin from very strong RNG and BLM.
I do have a question here though, I was wondering if anyone knew if a staff that is strong against an element has a direct magic damage reduction to that element or if it is a magic defense bonus or if it is something else. I would be very interested in testing this but I am not sure exactly how to do it, because the staff would also give you an increased chance to resist in addition. Maybe some Ballista testing would help.
They actually seem to remove Choke faster. Though, when bound, it's a lot more tense.Originally Posted by Edelphia
But yeah.
I'd also recommend a dedicated eraser; whether it be WHM or /WHM. They need to be running right with you, or at least right behind Kirin, and know that if they see a Tail Swing and your kiter stops running, hit that erase macro. Don't wait for your kiter to tell you they need erase.
EDIT: Fixed the quote. ._. Not sure how that happened..
Meleeburning Kirin for Dummies.
Get 3 Bards.
Have as many melees get to the room early as possible, my shell starts in the morning with a Kirin on Sundays, if we had most of the group logged there the night before, it would take maybe 10 minutes tops.
The hardest part about TP burning Kirin is the Teleporter, seriously.
Get everyone up there, at least 6 nicely equipped melees+9 random melees/blms if you want.
Set a Bard order, make sure you don't have a bunch of afkers.
Sleep Tp/Meditate/Shiki as needed, have everyone stand with their party leaders to one side of the ???, call a time for the Bards to SV.
/pcmd add bardname x2
Pop poison pots when the last Bard song hits, generally good to use your longer lasting buffs at this point too. We usually have one of the Bards run over and pop him, CALL THE FIRST SPELL CAST, and run away from the TP burn ally if necessary.
Insert a minute or so of 2hrs firing off, lots of WSes, ideally you can get at least one run parsed, and dedicate a healer to the top few DD's, cause they WILL be facetanking him most of the fight, have the bards toss out Eseal Curaga's and shit after AF goes off.
JUST IN CASE OF Party: Normal Kiting setup, Pld, Nin, Healer... if for some reason he doesn't go down fast (which would require either a super nasty Searing Light after a -GA IV or something) and starts popping summons while over 25% you'll probably have shit go really bad if you're not ready for it, but it can be recoverable, though most of your DD's will have to die for a tank to be able to get Kirin running around, and summons in that situation will make it complicated.
We've done it with completely B-Crew DD groups, and I've only seen one wipe, which was from a freakish Searing Light, after he took out the top 4 DD's in rapid succession, and we were left with like 4 or 5 DD's standing.
