Playing imports on a slim PS2?

Okay so I really want to get KH2: FM+, but my old (fat) PS2 that I modded died on me, and all I got left is a slim PS2 and a PS3.

Now my question is, I see all these different swappers online, but some also say that Action Replay can play imports by itself... is this true?

I don't want to mod it or anything, I just want the slim PS2 to play the JP imports (I don't even need it to play backups, just original games..)

Anyone got any experience with this? I've seen a crapload of different swappers and stuff like that, but if Action Replay does the job by itself I don't need anything else.

    Thanks in advance.

NINJA EDIT: http://www.swapmagic3.com/ is what i'm referring to as far as the other swapeprs go.

Would also like to know this, if action replay can make it play imports, that is win.

I have AR max for PS2 and it doesnt' work that way for me. Best choice would be to chip it, or buy my spare dust collecting phat J PS2. :D

You can indeed chip the slimline PS2s, but I know it's much more risky.

This was a year or two ago, so I don't know if it's still true (I have a modded ps2 now)

I don't have a slim ps2, but those swappers, you can run backups/imports by swapping, but the trick is that you have to open the tray yourself (not pressing the eject button.

The swapper will stop the cd drive from spinning, and you have to use a pin of some sort to pull open the drive (hard to explain, but once you did it you know what to do). Then after swapping you press the button for the drive to continue and the game will play.

Whoa, I have experience with this. I personally have swapmagic (SM) and it does play backups, imports, but used to install what is known as a "memory card exploit."

How swapmagic works is that, like a previous poster said, you have to detach the cover of the tray (where the ps2 logo is). Now, you'd load SM and it will load a little screen, then the cd/dvd will stop spinning. Next, you need to open the tray w/o turning your ps2 or hitting the eject button. So you need to use a plastic tool that comes with SM or you can make it out of a credit card or w/e.

It kinda sucks to have to do it all the time. What I just did was to install the "memory card exploit." Basically you can install games to your ps2 hdd and load the games from there, hell, you don't have to buy anything anymore. I don't do it though  The neat thing about installing the MC exploit to a memory card is that you can give copies to your friends so they can too enjoy the wonders of bootlegin'

Or you can get and install the program I mentioned with a usb and use it in your slim one.

I ordered SM for the slim version, where you just keep the tray open and put some metal part that is provided to keep the cd spinning when needed (slim ps2 won't spin with the cover open otherwise.)
