well since this is the noob section I guess we're allowed to throw out random ideas?

    ebon panels! JUST KIDDING

I was thinking about the thing they said at vanafest with killing as many of the jol summons as possible.

Is it possible that somehow holding JoL a long time and killing ridiculous amounts of summons before killing him could affect AV in some way? Has anyone tested or is it just so obvious that they were talking about JoL and not AV at all that nobody has even bothered?

No its true but the numbers you have to achieve are ridiculous.

Supposedly killing summons from JoL steadily reduce HALF of the regen rate from Absolute Virtue. We usually hold JoL for a good hour or so more than we need to once he's at 1% just for good measure. Once that initial regen rate is halved, the OTHER half is reduced by nukes of the same element as the current Vana'diel Day. In other words, RDMs and BLMs need to have a field day on AV to get the regen rate completely down. Unfortunatley just like AV, the number of nukes or damage needed to go into AV to get the other half of the regen down is just ridiculous and would take hours of constant nuking from more than 10 mages just to get the last half off. Remember Kirin waaaaaaay way back in the old days? AV is the new Kirin except we aren't getting any more hints.

Find one record of someone / ANYONE who when AV is at full power can manage to get him down even to 95%. Nobody can. The closest anyone ever can get is like 97% or 96% so even if they did lower the cap, when hundreds of players vs 1 NM can't manage more than 4% damage in even the best of the best of circumstances, something stupid happened.

    They got to 79% but still . . .

Oh one more thing to add

Physical TP such as Explosive Impulse damage will not be reduced based on number of people it hits..

    HOWEVER, magic damage is...

Easy example is kirin....put everyone on top of him for ga IV and its much more manageable damage...

Also I have had KB hit me with 1800 meteor with shell IV when i was only one hit..

ANother easy example is get on BLM and ga stuff damage drops iwth more stuff hit

You only need one lantern to get to the Den of Rancor fight if your lamp-lighter know what they're doing. I found this out the hard way when I was trying to do Jungle Bogeymen with a bunch of friends, and everyone forgot their lanterns except me. I baaaaaarely made it on BLM with some pretty terrible sneak/invis luck.
