Oh God, here's something to consider. What if Microsoft decides to release a super-duper edition of the Elite that comes packaged with Halo 3 at some point down the line?

Yeah, he needs to redo that chart heh.

EDIT: lol I just realized that the elite won't have WiFi either... they're persisting on making you pay 100 bucks for that dumb adapter (when any normal PC one sells for like 30 bucks) aren't they?

    It's for Official:
    http://www.xbox.com/NR/rdonlyres/EFA...esystem002.jpg

"Think about these [the three versions of the Xbox 360] as if they are bundles. The console is the same, we did some neat stuff because a lot of people said they liked black," Albert Penello, Director of Global Platform Marketing for Xbox, says, while he explains the new Elite version of the Xbox 360. "We think it's cool to try something interesting. When you're a new customer, what configuration makes sense for you? All three of these consoles are different bundles."

Microsoft announced the "Elite" version of the Xbox 360, an announcement that comes after numerous reports of an expected console revision (remember how Microsoft downgraded shipment figures back at CES?), and as previously speculated the Elite will be available in late April (April 29) for $479.99.

For $479.99, here's what gamers will get (in black -- see picture):

    # Xbox 360 Elite console. The console is equipped with a premium black finish and three powerful core processors capable of producing the best in HD entertainment (up to 1080p), 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio, anti-aliasing for smooth textures, full surround sound, HDMI output and DVD playback with upscaling capabilities right out of the box.
    # Xbox 360 120GB hard drive. The 120GB detachable hard drive allows gamers to save their games and store television shows, movies, music, pictures, trailers, levels, demos and other content available from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.3 The hard drive is sold separately for an estimated retail price of $179.99 (U.S.).
    # Xbox 360 Wireless Controller (black). This award-winning, high-performance wireless controller, now in black, features the Xbox Guide Button for quick, in-game access to friends and music. It has a range of up to 30 feet and a battery life of 30 hours on two AA batteries. It is sold separately for an estimated retail price of $49.99 (U.S.).
    # Xbox 360 headset (black). Now available in black, the headset lets gamers strategize or trade taunts while playing games and send voice messages to friends on Xbox LIVE.
    # Xbox 360 HDMI cable. New to Xbox 360, HDMI allows consumers to get HD video (up to 1080p) and multichannel surround sound, all from one cable. (Editor's Note: The component/composite cable already included with the Xbox 360 is also in the Xbox 360 Elite box).
    # Xbox LIVE Silver Membership. With this, gamers can chat with friends online, collect achievements and gamerscores, send and receive voice and text messages, and access Xbox LIVE Marketplace content such as game demos, HD movies and TV, as well as the best in downloadable games from Xbox LIVE Arcade.
    # One-month subscription to Xbox LIVE Gold. An Xbox LIVE Gold Membership provides a complete online entertainment experience. Those who subscribe to this premium service can engage in competitive online multiplayer matches, tailor their matchmaking via feedback and accomplishments, chat with more than one person at a time, and take advantage of unique privileges in the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Nitty gritty details aside, Penello did say the console is "the same." The almost-a-year-old announcement of a revised chipset -- one that will have the 360 running cooler and quieter -- hasn't bore fruit just yet, as the Elite SKU features the same 90 nm chip currently in Xbox 360 hardware.

The Elite SKU is not being released to replace the Premium (or the Core) versions of the console: "The Elite is not our new default SKU. The SKU that we still think is the sweet spot is the existing 20 gigabyte unit." Penello said. "We've got a unit for people that is more entry level. We're not going to start releasing 25 gigabyte downloads."

Additionally, for consumers concerned with how they will get save files from their existing 360 hard drive onto the new 120 gig -- the 120 gig HDD accessory, which retails for $179.99, has a cable and software built-in that will connect the HDD to the console with an HDD attached to it and transfer the files from one HDD to the other. People won't have to use a memory card to transfer the files and then re-download all of their old Arcade titles.
Pretty neat, nothing incredible, but neat.

    Bolded the parts worth reading.

the 1080p is for the HD-DVD movies... I don't think any 360 game plays in 1080p yet.

As i said before, there are more 1080p games on xbox then there are for PS3. Virtua Tennis, Def Jam, NBA Street, and a few others have 1080p on 360.

I'd also like to add, they've came out and said Xbox 360 Elite isn't going to be limited time only. You guys called it.

No, it doesn’t have an HD-DVD player. Yes you can still pull audio separate from the HDMI. No, it isn’t going to be a limited edition. Yes, it’s awesome! Watch the video for more, including what comes in the L337 box.

If it's not limited then there's no stress of getting it the second it comes out.

And Deejay, does the TV actually put itself to 1080p when you put those games in? I don't have those three, so idk... but that's pretty cool if they indeed play on 1080p.

That's awesome then... makes me feel better about DMC4 coming to the 360 heh.

I wonder which version will have the better gameplay though (controller layot-wise anyways, since everything else will be exactly the same.)

I like PS controllers for RPGs mainly. Easier to hold, and the PS3 controller is omg wtf super light. You barely feel that thing in your hands lol.

For anything actiony though, xbox all the way.

Yeah but GDI, it's light because the morons didn't put vibration in heh.

Hopefully now that the stupid lawsuit is over with they'll release some wireless rumbling sixaxis controllers.

well, to celebrate yet another thread turned into console war, here's some gasoline for the fire:

according to 1up, at least 5 xbox360 exclusives will be crossed over to the ps3 by Q3 this year

Deadrising is practically confirmed... god knows what else they move, but it can't be anything 1st party so the selection isn't so wow.

HOWEVER, I think it's healthy competition. And from the game producers' standpoint, why wouldn't you want to move it over to the other console to make more money? I know I would if I had a title that was a success on X console, and wanted the Y console version to be just as successful.

What the hell are they thinking, lol?

At that price I'd just spend another $100 and buy the 60gig PS3 version. Sony made a really great point about the PS3 and the new "Elite" 360. At $475, the cheap PS3 is now only $25 more expensive then than 360, but on top of having the HDMI port, it also plays blu-ray discs, making the 360 pricepoint kinda LOL.
I think their pricing strategy is fine. Considering that Microsoft buys the Hard Drives from their makers, then takes them and makes sure they are loaded with 360 software & protection, tests them to make sure they are up to specs and then turns around and packages them, the price is a tad high, but within reason.

I'm sure you can say well, I can go get a so and so drive for x amount of dollars cheaper, but the thing is, you wont be be able to do with it on the Xbox360 what their own Hard Drives can do. Even if Microsoft were allow you to use your own hard drive versus buying theirs, that would open up a whole slew of problems with security & what not.

The Elite isn't for everyone, just as the larger Hard drive isn't for everyone. At least they are giving people the option to buy what they want. If you want a core, you buy a core. If you want a premium 20 gig, you buy that. If you want HDMI & a larger hard drive you buy the Elite. If you had a core or a Premium and now need a larger Hard drive you can buy that.

Choices are a good thing. If Blu-Ray wins the next gen Format wars we'll see a Blu-Ray add on to watch them on the 360, if that's your choice.

At least give Microsoft some credit in not forcing options on you that you don't want or need, such as the case with the PS3 and why it's having a hard time.

Sure, if you never had an Xbox360 and you go to buy an Elite you can buy a Low end PS3 for $25 more, but if they don't have any interest in watching Blu-Ray, & know all the games they want are on the 360 or will be on both the PS3 and the 360, I'm pretty sure they'll go with what they set out to buy in the first place. A video game system. Not just a Blu-Ray launch vehicle with a game console on the side as what seems an afterthought.

Money makes the world go round, and given enough money... it can win you everything. On the plus side, I'm happy some previously exclusive 360 titles will be making their way to the PS3. Lord knows the owners out there of the system need something to play on it for video games. They're probably sick to death of Folding@home for hours on end and watching only movies.

It's Bethany Exo, not "Bathany". I own a PS3, I just feel as do many others let down by Sony. I hope the future gets better for the PS3, but it's a long road before they get there. Motorstorm is ok I guess, but then again I'm not fond of those types of games. Variety is the spice of life, & it's a variety of good games that's keeping the PS3 from being what it should be.
