Chocobo Racing 27/03/07

I'm enjoying raising chocos, making money by growing choco stuff, and I for one am looking forward to the races.

See, this is what people need to learn to do. State an opinion without feeling that for their opinion to have any weight they need to mock someone else, talk shit in general, or do something to paint themselves as some kind of hero for wanting to participate. I miss 2004.

Do all those things easier, with less members, because you're better geared.

I see what you did there, but one pointless loop can be applied to other activities should you make the decision to do something else.

Also, when people initially pick up ffxi and start playing, I dont think its any sims aspect of the game that helps them come to that conclusion. Its killing shit, and looking good while doing it. Did anyone buy ffxi b/c they thought it would be a simulation game?

I have never camped a king, yet still everything I hear about chocoracing puts me to sleep.

That being said, more power to SE for adding new stuff to do. Just because this isn't to my taste doesn't mean I'm going to bitch over it. I'll just not do it and be happy that some people can have fun with it. (Some people in my LS are tickled pink over the whole racing idea. Yay for them that it's finally here!)

Wow you're right, with all that time I saved chocoboing it I could jerk it with both hands for 1 minutes 48 seconds. Awesome!

The racing would have been awesome if they implemented the FFVII way of the choco races

Input of right or left trigger commands and to much force, the choco fucks up

It's probably just me, but I have this feeling that quite a few of the people shooting down the chocobo update before it's even out are still shitty about finding a yellow bird in their egg (or simply fear finding one).

I will be pimping my black chocobo limo at those races, though. Maybe I'll even make some gil whoring out tickets. This doesn't sound like a waste of time to me... 8)

Of course, do we even know first-class speed is the win card for racing?

Will there be course portions that require discernment or receptivity? Will items like spore bombs wreak more havoc on a dumb bird than a smart one? What about all the other folks racing at the same time?

It'll be a lot like modern horse racing- you're the owner, you'll work out a plan with the jockey, and then it's time to pray from the starting gate onwards your bird makes it to the finish line on top- or at least places.

Fair enough, I don't care about a lot of the worthless-to-me gear that people wear around town either. But like that worthless-to-me gear, I bet I'll find quite a few chocobo owners paying big bucks for a few minutes with my bird, and what better way to advertise?

No way in hell they were going to leave this in the hands of folks using cheat programs.

Wonder why they didn't just put in a special input system that allowed you to fully control your chocobo, but safe from POS, specifically for chocobo racing. To the user, would be just like the normal system used to move around the world, but wouldn't be based on your frame rate or clock speed and would have server side checking.

That, I think, would have been better. At least that way, chocobo racing would be safe from POS, even if the rest of the world isn't.
