Square: "Hey guys, here's something new to do that may be fun."
Players: WHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE
This thread is a perfect example of the old adage, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
OK, you don't care about chocobo racing? Then who gives a shit? Shut up and move on with your life.
why do you post to tell us to stop talking about not caring, why do you care about us not caring?
Because I am sick of people shitting up my damn forums before there is an update talking about how lame the update is.Originally Posted by Skeetaru

but cmon u gotta admit, it does sound lame![]()
If the races are interactive there might be some hope for this, but if the video is any indication, that doesn't seem to be the case. Choco Racing isn't gonna pull in any new people to the Choco scene if all you can do is watch a game-controlled "race."
If its not fun at first, they will fix it till its slightly fun again, or fix it every month, whatever.
Need a BRP rule for FFXI discussion alongside the General rule. It's fine to say it might not be exciting, but to argue about it is a waste of forum space.
Hopefully this isn't just another fire-and-forget minigame that just runs a player in pointless circles. I remember loving chocobo racing in FF7 but that was more interactive than the XI version promises to be.
And we still have Pit/Colosseum to look forward to if this winds up to be half-assed. The jury is still out on MiniGames of Aht Urhgan.
Be sure to face NE before you click on the NPC to start the event when it's Firesday!!!variables such as chocobo condition and the weather,
Hopefully that means you didn't break a hip.Originally Posted by Septimus

It's not so much people posting their opinion on what they think about an upcoming update, or discuss pros or cons--it's when people get upset about someone elses opinion and start attacking them for it. "I think it's going to be lame." shouldn't be attacked as if they're saying "I think this and anyone who likes it are lame ass fools fuck them and fuck SE." Vice versa as well.I fell better after letting that out.
It IS a discussion forum after all.
or they could of let us race them and actually monitor it and ban pos cheaters
Due to latency issues and such, I'm guessing why they didn't go this route.Originally Posted by shihei

Actually, we finished the development of it 2 years ago; however, we are going to spread the release of new content out over the course of an entire year in the hopes of convincing anyone vaguely interested in Chocobo Racing to continue paying their $12.95/month.Due to the fact that chocobo racing is completely new to FINAL FANTASY XI, much time has been necessary for development and testing. Because of this, we have determined that rather than delaying the release of the content, it is better to release portions of it at a time, thus allowing players to experience some of the features right away.

Chocobucks are a special type of currency for use at CRA-sanctioned establishments. Chocobucks can be earned by winning special races and can be exchanged for items and services used in chocobo breeding. Chocobucks are also required to participate in certain official races.
Yes, I know I put far too much faith in SE.
I like the concept of chocobo racing or [insert generic side system], but I feel like releasing portions of systems (or areas, *ahem*), is in general a bad practice because you end up releasing so little content at a time that everyone devours it within a few weeks and goes back to being bored anyways. If you release huge chunks of content all at once, assuming they're not shittily designed, you at least give people so much to do that they won't get bored again for quite some time.
Also, knowing the way SE works (loltimelimitedcontent), I wouldn't be surprised if you can only race once or twice a day before your choco "gets tired". Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if they force you to choose between the digging game and the racing game. Props to them if they do the smart thing and make it fun, but SE seems to have a way to suck all the fun out of most concepts.
The problem with releasing large amounts of content at a time though is that people will devour it within a few weeks and goes back to being bored without anything else to look forward to.Originally Posted by Quicklet
The problem is that no one is ever fucking happy and SE is fighting a losing battle.Originally Posted by Septimus
But it doesn't matter to them because regardless of how much people bitch and complain they still pay to play a game they hate.
As long as I get my spiffy black chocobo t-shirt/uniform that I saw in the dats/modelviewer, I'll be happy for a few seconds. =D>
It doesn't matter what Square does, people are going to be unhappy. Chocobo Racing doesn't give me a Ridill, so I don't care. OK, so let's add a Ridill vending machine to chocobo racing- now it's too easy.Originally Posted by Metah
