    Summoner in Salvage

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question but I'll give it a go.

I was wondering how useful SMN is in Salvage being that SMN can buff, debuff, deal physical dmg and deal magical dmg.

Has anyone tested SMN in Salvage vs. Normal Mobs/NMs/End Boss?

A summoner would need both magic and ability cells before they could do jack or squat unless they want to be a gimp whm.

empty out your inventory, become a walking hi-potion tank. they're one of the highest-maintenance jobs with respect to salvage.

It really depends on what you're trying to do. During the ascent and normal mobs, I can't see a reason that SMN would be very helpful.

IMO SMN are great on the MBs however, since they can do their job effectively with little more than ability and magic cells. Predator Claws still do around 500 damage each on LBC.

I was thinking using SMN more or less to kite links/adds during the ascent, assist with healing AND assist with buffing. Giving the tanks/dds, stoneskin, phalanx and blink as well as possibly giving other buffs like Acc/Eva boosts.

Also, considering what kind of dmg SMN would be able to do on LBC or LAC at the top being that SMN dmg is hate free.

Has anyone tested SMN out on Long-Bowed/Long-Armed Chariots? Or even possibly the Archaic Chariot/Gears on the way up?

I'm thinking they may/may not be weak to Blunt (just a random guess, nothing solid behind that).

I'd also like to see what kind of dmg Nether Blast would do EndBoss, or popped NMs in Salvage (By popped NMs I don't mean Reactionary Rampant, I'm referring to the summoned mobs RR pops).

I usually do Bhaflau Remnants as WAR75, but I'm considering using SMN (also 75) if the practical applications outweigh the temporary loss of dmg/back up tanking.

Anyone have any experience with SMN in Salvage?

It depends on the run and what the drops look like, its not always the same even with in the same remnant.

Had you read one post up, you'd know the answer to this.

SMN damage on LBC in my fights:

    Heavenly Strike 301, 347
    Diamond Dust 632
    Nether Blast 310, 310, 310
    Predator Claws 324, 346, 393, 426
    Spinning Dive 279, 319, 348, 420, 459
    Chaotic Strike 284, 440
    Mountain Buster 573
    Flaming Crush 308

So, most BPs do about the same damage as a Blizzard III.

One of my first LBC runs we had a SMN with us, don't recall how well his BPs were doing but I do recall him trying out most of them. I'd imagine it'd be better on LAC with his lower defense and constant charm attempts, but you'd still need to get a bunch of cells to make it work, which can be a total bitch in Silver Seas. Other than bosses, it can be handy for pulls, but the damage from BPs compared to geared melees isn't even a competition as far as regular mobs go.

OR, maybe I'm looking for more than just ONE person's perspective?

Maybe, some of us, like to get a cross-section of answers with which to better form a COMPLETE and ACCURATE conclusion.

Ahhh there we go. Numbers, statistics, details. Substance!

    Thank you.

It would appear from your numbers that SMN is far too inconsistent with dmg to use reliably in a boss fight.

Though Mountain Buster and Diamond Dust dmg does look promising.

As far as I know, it would only take 2 cells to unlock SMN avatars. Magic & Ability and while Armor cells would be nice (for MP and BP Timer) if you're just BPing and releasing you shouldn't need that many cells anyway.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to use a hate-free job within the Salvage system.

SMN has various uses besides BP dmg, like buffing, debuffing, healing, kiting, etc.

SMN may or may not be a practical job for use in Salvage considering the many disadvantageous and handicaps suffered.

But I won't know for sure until there's more testing.

Apparently, for the Endboss fights Ranged Attacks/Magic seem to be the preferred way to go since the EndBoss has many AoE TP Moves and the incredibly powerful "Homing Missile" attack.

I was envisioning the SMN job in Salvage to be similar to SMN on Kirin, but that may not be entirely applicable in this instance.

Not worth it. No -perp gear makes them expensive, no mp makes you have to constantly rest after a bp.

I guess it depends on the zone. You won't see a summoner in Arra, and might not be too good in SS. Might work in Bhaf and most every job can be geared up fast in Zhay. But even then is that worth a spot when you can have any other sort of job at all?

I also dislike blu in salvage. Never again.

I did notice (Bhaflau) that once I had accsess to both JA and magic, I was running around damn near 1-shotting mobs. Myself and a fellow smn went into a separate room and cleaned it out of Ziz's for extra cells while main group did their thing.

Thank you everyone for your contributions and for sharing your experiences.

It looks like I may be stuck going to Salvage as WAR, which is great for farming up cells (and backup tanking) due to h2h skill, but not terribly useful on the endboss fight =(

Why isn't it useful on the end boss? Melee damage against the chariots is very decent.

While melee damage may be decent, feeding the boss TP usually ends up contributing to a wipe.

At least everytime I've done Bhaflau end-boss, the numerous TP moves rape our melee DD and put a significant strain on our 2 healers.

I'm trying to find alternative methods/combinations which would minimize death and mitigate the enmity generated from spike damage.

If you only have 2 healers why not go as SMN if you can get a sub and magic and be a gimpy healer >_>

Melees eat chariots, we kill Bhaflau boss with 10~ people, more healers than melee. So long as you can keep them alive, 2 melee is plenty for that boss.

My last LJ update has a guide on fighting the boss with a small group. Considering the amount of time we got to the last floor with, I'd consider it possible to beat the boss with 6 even, or get damn close
