First challenging official race, Classic I for 20 chocobucks. The other chocos arent any tougher but they throw out an assload of items in this one, including "weather bombs", one of which caused it to rain and "injured" my bird. Lost "by a beak" because of pepper and fire biscuit spam near the end, which also caused the lead to change 3 times in the final stretch. At least they're starting to be a bit difficult so hopefully the rewards go up as well, otherwise winning the official races is barely going to break even with the amount of free runs you need to do for the entry fee chocobucks.

sounds like it might be worth trying to get some speed apples for these.
also, I'm thinking that Gallop and Canter may have something to do with the Sprint and Final Spurt options. Example, if you have Sprint with a chocobo that has Gallop you get a faster start, or if you have Final Spurt with Canter your endurance lasts a lot longer or something. I haven't tried the two in a serious race though. Anyone here have either gallop or canter, but not both, and want to check for a difference? Possibly in a free race against those ass fast chocobos?
Used a speed apple, had the same second place finish (you need to place 1st to advance). Pepper biscuits completely kill my choco's place, nowhere near the effect it has on the NPC birds, and it got hit with one about halfway through so it spent the remainder of the race just trying to catch back up using the apple. There's probably a trick to this race (making sure you're not in first when the biscuit hits/etc., I wasn't hit on the first run but still placed second) or I've just been extremely unlucky with runs 1 and 2 and this will end up being a joke race like the others.

try using the final spurt command, see if your chocobo stays first after that.
also, do you have to repay the chocobucks every time? that would suck.
and BRP, if your chocobo sucks after 64 days, yeah just start over![]()
Its been on final spurt for every race, and yes you have to repay the chocobuck fee for every attempt. I'll mess around with it more tomorrow before JP midnight.

It sucks, I went to the hospital for 2 weeks. I knew my chocobo was screwed lol.and BRP, if your chocobo sucks after 64 days, yeah just start over
won today's race first try. They talk about it being the final race, and give you a gysahl medal key item, a chocolixir, 6500 gil and 10 chocobucks for winning.
Final Spurt did the trick for me, my chocobo started out slow enough for the pepper biscuit to be used on someone else. The other items really didn't affect me as far as I could tell.
Wow...talk about bullshit, the 20 chocobucks race was the last one...
Well, that was somewhat of a dissapointment...
Hopefully they'll add more in the next patch. I got the feeling with the key item and seeming to become the preeminent racer from your country of choice is just going to be the first of two or three tiers they add later. (Next to Jeuno and then Whitegate maybe?) Probably with some nice prize for anyone who wastes enough time raising birds to win them all.
Being able to change nations and save your chocobucks seemed reminiscent of Conquest allegiance and CP afterall.
After I check to see what item my bird found (another Cattleya and I'm making soup) tomorrow I'm going to try again to get a racing bird with canter+gallop.
As it is now if you just feed Vomp Carrots, send your choco to walk around town as a chick, and carry packages as an adolescent and adult you can win all the races pretty easily with First-class/First-class/Poor/Poor and no abilities. I don't see SE having implemented chocobo racing with so little depth (and potential as a timesink).
I'd be interested to know how your chocobo fairs in the races. StarOnion/InvincibleLeg both seem to get a huge boost from Gallop and/or Canter. With relatively low STR/END but the chocobo wrapping or a speed apple how does it perform?I have a bit deficient/substandard/avg/avg with gallop and treasure hunter i can test things out if need be.
I've read in Zam that some people manage to get a levelup on stat with 80 chocobucks plan.
It's possible that you can only get levelup if the stat is below certain threshold or something...maybe I'm just jumping the gun on the already high stat (outstanding end)
I'm thinking of trying the effect on my A bit deficient and Poor disc/receptivity before throwing the towel and raising a new chocobo from scratch.
I got a feeling I will need the mental defense for PVP races.
Any tips on how my Poor STR/END Max DIS/REC Chocobo can win the second Novice Race? Or do I need to raise a new chocobo...
uhhh...set on sprint, pop a gysahl bomb and hope for the best?Originally Posted by Khamsin

at that point, honestly get a new chocobo. its just gonna be way too slow to keep up. Would be good against accidents/harmful items, but thats about it.
Do you get to pick which stat the 80 chocobuck boost is supposed to raise? The NPC's dialogue led me to believe it was random.
I have around $35 left but the possibility of boosting mind stats enough to learn an ability after the stat lock is rather enticing. I can wait a week to start raising another bird.
Meh, off to Bastok Mines I go...
75 is random, 80 you can pick
I have a First class str/end bird with no abilities, for some reason during the races when I'm racing against another bird side by side my bird will always seem to gain on them pretty rapidly. However once the camera zooms away from my bird to look at someone else then comes back my bird is suddenly behind again.
The only explanation I could figure out is that once the camera turns away my opponents jockeys secretly pulls out a needle and injects their birds with chocobo steroids. Either that or SE decided to screw with me.
Maybe they used an item while the camera was looking away?Originally Posted by Stee
Hmm I thought whenever someone uses a item it will automatically train the camera on them? Even if it did though it keeps happening multiple times in a race.
Out of curiosity, am I like the only dumbass that actually spend 80 chocobucks on the stat deal?
