Melee alliance and have a bunch sub DRK (MNK with faith h2h, THFs, NIN) and sub them into JoL ally every 6 mins for fast kills.
we've tried both.. and found blm add group to be better than melee onry add group
typically we have 3-4 melee go out and get ready to pull adds and bring them to the blms.. much like tyche's pictures described
main damage on JoL is smn / few blm / rangers / thfs / and sometimes switch in melee's so they can have some fun until they die =D
We stack the main ally w/ BLMs.... and the rest of the BLMs just get swapped in / out when someone is low on MP.
The adds are SE's way of throwing a bone to the melees.
It's STILL a boring fight.
I never liked blm because they always screw up pulling the adds imo.
3 war/nin random melee 2 rdm, the mobs are soloable by anyone with /nin with a little curing
Oh and blm tend to try and aga, get aerns and die.
In our JoL kills we've always used a seperate party/alliance for the adds, with a PLD/WHM as point man and 4-5 BLMs with a BRD. When the adds are summoned, he Banishga's them off the main JoL tanks, pulls them to BLMs, who promptly aga3 them and kill them off. With a PLD as puller, the puller can typically survive til the ga3's go off.
It's gotten to be exciting sometimes when Astral Flow happens... inconveniently. Although there's nothing quite as amusing at times as when a taru blm gets 3 Aerial Collisions to the face. SPLAT! The schadenfreude is thick. Anything to strive off the boredom.
Usually though, as others have stated, once we finally get to the point where JoL's regen is gone and he's summoning only Ru'phuabos, the only difficulty left is staying focused. Since JoL's adds don't give XP like JoJ's, there's almost nothing to keep them interested.
I've pulled the adds with RDM/NIN. 6 shadows + stoneskin is enough.
We pulled the adds with brd using horde lullaby. 4 blms is plenty; even if one survives the initial volley, you need new blms if 1 mostly-dead phuabo can wipe all 4 of them.
BRD/NIN does Pulling + Refresh duty for a 5 BLM add party. Nothing should withstand 5 -gas by decently geared BLMs.
RDM/WHM casting Banishga to gather mobs helps a bit too. Blink + Stoneskin + Phalanx + Earth Staff or Genbu's Shield is more than enough to absorb damage until the -ga spell volley goes off.
You could claim with Diaga, but if you manage to aggro Aerns, they'll be harder to hold without sleeping them.
Our add party uses a brd/rdm which also works fine.
BLM in add party whould also be using AF1 Gloves... to help avoid resists in the first place.
