We should totally have Guildwork premium feature to monitor when these sort of transactions happen so that everyone simultaneously knows when to try and rip off an RMT at the AH.
I'm pretty sure they buy out all the singles of the random shit they're gonna use to transfer first. I remember looking at the ffxiah history of an rmt on Asura and he'd buy out all of them at normal price then one at ## million.
They do it for Bruised Starfruit as well. I got one the other day just randomly killing stuff in Xarc before doing an ADL run, and I tried putting it up just to see if I could catch some free gil from them. They'll make sure to buy out any put up by random people before they move their gil over.
You have to just ninja it up for some obscene price after they buy all the normal ones on the AH.
you'd have to be paying some serious attention
Well yes, that would be the plan if you were aiming to make some obscene gil by scamming rmt.
In support of the notion of "need some guildwork [or other means] to know when these transactions are happening so we can ninja them".
If I remember correctly, Guildwork doesn't notify you in real time when something goes up onto the ah. There is something like a 15 - 20 minute+ delay, so your chances of catching them would be slim to none.
The specific items used for laundering are from a very small pool so whatever means of checking the AH is used can presumably be adjusted to check at a much faster rate.
best bet would probably be to use 2 characters, one spam checking items, other having item ready to put up right away.
How fast does Guildwork notify you when an item is sold? Could put up a few flint stone (or w/e your server does) and when they sell check the AH to see if it's suspicious names and put a few more up.
Guildwork relies on FFXIAH, which scans items every 15-30 minutes.
You all sound like you believe the people selling that stuff don't regularly use these forums. Pro Tip: RMT haven't been Chinese for about 6 years now, at least.
Are you dumb? Almost all of the ones I deal with in game are absolutely Chinese. I have had in depth conversations with some about where they live and their work conditions even. Sure some are not Chinese, but many are.
He probably means the supply hasn't been Chinese RMT.
Oftentimes the RMT companies themselves are run by/based in Western countries but the farmers themselves are Chinese.
So basically its no different than anything else. Clothing company is based in North America, production plant is based in China or Bangladesh.
In other games like WoW yeah, in FFXI I doubt that is the case for many, I'm not sure FFXI really has 'professional' RMT left at all. Regular NA/EU/JP/whatever players that RMT and you wouldn't know it, and a handful of chinese individuals running cleave groups seem to be all that's left for the most part.
It's not like you see chinese RMTs selling drops, fishing, farming marrows, or anything of the sort really nowadays.
