Honestly I don't know where or if -enmity caps. It's not exactly the easiest thing to directly measure. Wasn't there an event item that was -100 enmity during a certain moon phase or something? That might indicate that there is no cap (or cap at 100).

However, like I said before there certainly is a situational max. I used to go crazy on WHM stacking -enmity until I realized that it didn't matter after a certain point. I became a better WHM and the tanks became better tanks. Then I started scaling back on some pieces. For instance I now idle in AF2 body instead of Blessed Briault. I only equip Aristo. for cures. -30 is a good ballpark. If you find yourself pulling hate, stack on a bit more. If you don't pull hate ever, play with replacing some of your gear with other items. Honestly there's a bit of a feel to it. I know almost exacty when someone is going to pull hate on a HNM. That's just from experience at it.

it was the halloween item which gave either -50 during lightsday full moon day time or +50 enmity during darksday new moon night time.

also yea it rly depends on your tanks since i have seen events where ppl had barely any -enmity and were curing a lot without ever getting hate but i have seen certain lses where a mage resting on the side got hate somehow.

Day to day crap I idle in

Cleric's Briault -2
Hedgehog bomb -1
Blessed Mitts -3
Blessed Pants -5
Tamas Ring -3

Which is -14 and I have very few problems with that for most things.

The minute we go poke something bigger I can add in

Yigit Turban -5
Penitent's Rope -3
Trooper's Ring -4

Which is an extra -12 and so I guess I am looking at -26 max. I guess I can add in extra on my feet if I really need to (errant/cleric's/blessed) to push me to -30. Aim is for HQ blessed feet or Marduk feet (I can dream).

However we're not fighting wyrms or anything, our shell is new to endgame. Only long term experience I have as a WHM is of dynamis. We do Limbus, Sky, things like Alastor etc but no ground/wyrms. I've helped out on several large fights, Cerberus etc but I'm not really an HNM WHM.

From levelling alternate jobs and dualboxing pretty regularly, I've gotten a lot of respect for other jobs.
Used to be "wah wah i could never level DRK, swinging so slow" "RDM and WHM and BRD look so boring lol" "man, MNK just autoattacking, so boring Q_Q." But yeah, when you see what situational pieces of gear all of those use, it seems a lot more interesting, certainly enough to want to know some details~

Most WHM's I see with about ~26 -enmity from eyeballing, and that seems enough for most drawn out fights.

OK, here is a question to the other WHMs out there. Is it normal for WHMs to not get Ballad in merit parties? Generally it is ok to not have it (yay Refresh sanction and Noble's Tunic), but I am tired of having to bring my RDM out there to cover for all of the time that I have to rest. Should I at least ask for the occasional Ballad II if the BRD keeps skipping it?

If you're alleya, you don't need ballad, if you're anyone else you should get ballad


Anyway as for -enmity, there's some things I prefer to macro in -enmity on, things like Cure4 for things like small manning LBC or other small man situations, where you really can't afford pulling hate and losing a RDM or losing battle pace.

It doesn't even have to be over the top, I just macro in errant body/pants, tamas on full time. That seems to be fine for me.

WHMs get merit parties?

ok here's how I do it. and I'm a WHM, RDM, and BRD (and lolBLM and roflCOR)

There's no excuse for not having ballad on the healers in a merit party at least some of the time.

Party 1: WHM RDM BRD DD DD DD

WHM should actually be ok with just refresh in this party since they should be chugging cookies and working with the RDM on cures and hastes. Still, there's no reason not to put ballad II on the WHM and RDM from time to time.

Party 2: WHM BRD DD DD DD DD

Typical melee party dynamis setup. This WHM needs ballad to keep up with healing/hasing 4 melees. Melees should help the BRD pull if possible to let them keep up with songs.

Party 3: WHM(or RDM) BRD BRD DD DD DD

One BRD pulls /NIN, he other is /WHM and doing Minuets and Ballads. No excuse at all not to have double ballads on the healer.

I have never been in a 1 BRD party and not given the healers Ballad II. There's no excuse for it. Sure, if you're pulling you may not have it on all the time but there's no reason not to throw it in whenever you can.

Also, when I was finishing up COR, I kept Healer's Roll and Evoker's Roll on the mages and would help pull (follow up with light shot to sleep it).

If the BRD isn't giving you Ballad II at least some of the time they are lazy or self absorbed.

Regarding enmity while leveling, specifically @50+ and the crow's set, do you recommend carrying some with you just in case you come across a poor tank, or is it really not worth it?

Don't see why not, especially for the legs/hands slot when there's not really many options till late in the game.

Well, from more of a brd's perspective than Whm, you should be getting ballad for sure. Ballad2 up all the time, and I don't really see a reason not to have ballad1 at least the majority of the time. Sometimes if your party really has to fight to hold onto chains bard may skip ballad1, but it shouldn't be a fulltime thing unless your bard sucks.

As a side mention I have max minus emnity merits that I've had since leveling whm and with the gear I had before I quit whm I would never pull hate, even if I was solo whming. But now that I've been exping nin up I totally notice the merits even more with trying to hold hate. I really have to try harder than should be necessary to keep hate on me.

this is how you do it:

first and foremost, dont go out with a sucky PT that is too lazy to keep up shadows. i dont merit unless i really feel like devoting my attention to being efficient for my exp/hr, otherwise my PT can replace me with a rdm who can go help pull.

2nd, a nice brd (say, curtis or daahan [no offense to the rest of you that i dont think i've ever merited with before]). they like to pull 3 mobs, hoard lullaby, cast blink, run over to ballad 2, ballad 1, then run back over to melees.

your cycle should be haste > regen > haste > regen > haste > regen > haste > regen. you dont have to regen if someone isnt dmg'ed (duh). ESeal aspir every 10mins (yes i look to see if my timer is ready, and i carry +drk skill on my whm). if you need to cure, and you're lower on mp, wait for cure V, otherwise wait for a necessary (50%ish HP) cureIII.

sounds like your PT is sucking, or your brd isnt very aggressive. Or you're not stacking enough haste gear (i've seen you not wearing walahra, no blessed hands/feet, and i dont have the heart to yell at you because you're not a whm [do you have a swift belt?]). Stack the haste gear, and your cycle ends sooner (you wont need to haste yourself) and you can begin resting again for that mp you lost from your standing cycle.

The only real cons to being a whm in a merit PT over a rdm is the necessity of regular resting (i dont think a rdm really needs this?), which really doesnt allow you to tag every mob with dia2 like a rdm can (assuming they've got a perfect mp consumption ratio that ends with a convert every 10mins ). Dispel is somewhat minor, your brd can finale just fine, but you may (depending on where your brd is in a pull) have to watch your melees hit a buffed mob for longer than you'd wish them to.

No, you should be getting ballad 2 at least. Getting it depends on a lot of factors having to do with your PT, and the possible existence of nearby PTs pulling your mobs (but we try to HOSTILE TAKEOVER that situation away, dont we? )

I "grew" used to not having refresh or ballad so i never bitch about refresh or ballad, but /SMN (which i have yet to ungimp) and Nobles and Sanction / Drinks are more than enough to keep the MP going.

Also i'm still an idiot that moves out of ballad/refresh range, to cure far away ppl. so uh, half the fight im refreshless >.>
