Hate is never a problem for whm for any fight that uses nin/drk or pld/nin, and only on rare occasions does one of our novio blms take hate. I'm not saying this to brag or anything as I know BtL and others have better geared and experienced players than ours.

And Cure IV is really not that bad, there is a big difference between using it with 0 -enm like most rdms do and with a lot of -enm that whms wear.

104 mnd is the cap for whm stoneskin. 100 mnd if you wear cleric's duckbills, i think.
If all things go smoothly in a big fight you do not need super duper -enmity. However where -enmity really shines is when things DON'T go as planned. If one tank gets terrored and the other gets caught w/o shadows and dies hate can get really screwed up, really fast. It's precicely at that time that you want all the -enmity you can have. You use a good amout of -enmity throughout the entire fight so that if that happens, you aren't going to be the one to pull hate.

I used to go full -enmity all the time, now I rarely do (though it's still pretty high-or low? lol as the case may be). You have to get to a place that's comfortable for you. One of my proudest moments on WHM was at the end of a Jormungand fight (last 5%) we got hit with a couple sequential VERY nasty AOEs and most of the tank party was in 100-200 HP. I used Bene and he didn't even look at me. I hadn't logged the entire fight either. If I had gone the entire fight using curagas at will and flashing him you can bet that I would have pulled hate. As great as it is when things go flawlessly, they don't alway. That's when things like -enmity over the course of the entire fight really shines.

We manaburn wyrms now, so what you're describing pretty much never happens. But if we killed them with skillchains, then yeah having more -enmity is definitely useful. For jormungand I'd simply sub nin to be able to blink a few hits while the mob gets slept.

I'm pretty sure benediction has an enmity cap, somewhere between curaga II and III.

I don't see how what I described has anything to do with us using skillchains or manaburning? All damage dealers on wyrms should log out at an appropriate time regardless if they are melee or mage. We mostly manaburn Wyrms as well, rarely, if ever do we skillchain (poor melees )

Shit happens. I prefer to be as best prepared as I can be when it does.

And I have 0 proof of this other than being a WHM for over 3 years but.. I'm pretty sure that the hate from Benediction is proportionate to the amount of HP healed and not a set amount/capped.

The difference is a true manaburn = no damage on the ground so 0 chance at Horrid Roar ever happening. It's an extremely efficient way of doing it, we did it a few times and was quite nice force landing Tiamat early, but because we always have a few melees there we don't do that anymore at the expense of making people sit out fights.

gotcha! (totally didn't know that btw ) Though I really do wish we'd use skillchains once again.. I'm still holding you to your promise that I get to come tank pt RDM if you can come WAR/THF.

Regardless, I still prefer to play it safe. The way that I play WHM is what I've found to be most effective for me in combination with the way my linkshell fights things. However, I've said it before and now once again. WHMs are very fortunate to have a lot of gear that is clearly the best choice for a given situation. Blessed is a perfect example of this. It has lots of MND, -enmity and haste. What's not to love? If you have good, experienced tanks you can get away with less -enmity. However having been tank pt WHM on a Tiamat with 3 tanks who had never tanked it before I can tell you that I wore full -enmity and was on pins and needles the entire fight because I had to spam cure people. I've also seen less experienced WHMs pull hate on Tiamat even with the great tanks.

I change the amount of -enmity I use situationally. There is no singular best configuration. I just think it's better to have too much as opposed to too little.
