To Nystul, I think Muslims are pretty clear about what offends them greatly. Their religion. The danish thing was very offensive and i, personally am totally with the boycotting of danish products, like i mentioned there are boundries with us. I see christians bashing Jesus like no tomorrow, yet we dont hear anyone saying that is Jesus, he died for us, he was tortured terribly we shouldnt make fun of him, but when a guy says faggot on national television you degrade him and call him vulgar, which shows that...ok, i think americans have gay rights and all, fair enough. but then i hear about this senator (I think) "coming out of the closet" and they throw him in to Gay rehab to "straighten up"...see now im confused, the same people who say: calling gay people faggots as a joke is wrong, AND being gay is wrong....its just really confusing. I think it is sad that people nowadays give more rights and feelings to animals, homosexuals and criminals than our religion/prophet/God.

Yesh. Despite being lebanese I don't take any of this stuff to heart. When someone says something about arabic people in humor or jest, I take it as humor or jest. It's extremely hypocritical for arabic people most of all to take deep offense when someone insults them, considering how much anti jew media gets put in the news all the time. On top of anti-jew, they'll have as much anti american crap as they can. The funniest ones are the Arabs who live in america (or in my case Australia) and then continue to say how shit the country is in comparison to theirs (yet they stay in said foreign country).

This topic just reminds me of the arabic guys in high school. More than happy to insult the authentic aussies for anything, but LEST YOU SAY SOMETHING AGAINST THE ARABIC PEOPLE OR BE DEEMED RASCIST!!!

There's one very good thing taught for the most part in America, that makes us non-susceptible to criticism by others. Basically, if you believe in your religion, why should something someone else says or does affect that? I have friends that are pretty religious, but take no offense to my atheist comments and cracks. Why? Because on that subject, they believe that they are right and I'm an idiot. They don't need to get mad, they don't have urges to punch me in the face. They just laugh and keep on with their religion.

What one danish guy does in a country half a world away should have no impact on your beliefs, or what happens in the afterlife. So what if there was a critic? Is your god going to smite you for ignoring those who you believe to be blasphemers? Or do you -have- to react in a negative fashion towards people barely related to said blasphemer for your god to accept you?

Its a vast world we live in. Suck it up. People have other opinions/beliefs than you. The world is gonna be a very sad and angry place if you take offense at every word they say. Learn tolerance. Learn to ignore. Learn to believe in your religion no matter what the other people say. Your beliefs are your beliefs, and one cartoonist or a naysayer shouldn't be able to shake that belief.


As for the media stuff... people overreact on/to the media. Personally, I don't see the opinions of the media representing accurately the opinions of the masses. Each channel is a company, each company led by different people. Don't take everything you hear on the media for granted.... and even if some of it is true, it doesn't apply to all members of a nation 8)

You don't know anything about Christianity, do you?

Firstly, I don't know what Christians are bashing Jesus, while some people claim this is a "Christian nation" and statistics might show the majority of people register as Christian the vast majority of people are basically agnostics. If you're saying that US late night TV bashes Jesus with all the "baby Jesus" jokes and such, I don't find them funny, but I don't normally find that form of stupid humor funny anyway, and those people aren't religious, at least not Christian. I'd say at best 25% of this nation are "serious Christians" which is really big for some things (like influencing national elections) but is actually rather small overall.

Secondly, you'll find all forms of "hypocrisy" in America because we have freedom of speech and expression, there are so many differing opinions here you can almost always find someone who supports your side no matter what it is about.

Thirdly, Jesus himself drank wine, it's part of one of the most important Church practices, communion, eat bread and drink wine that symbolize the body and blood of Jesus. It's part of our religion to consume (moderate) amounts of alcohol. Not supposed to drink? Ok.

You have a massive flaw in your logic here, equating "these people" with "those people" assuming that if something happens in america that all americans are of one mind behind it. I think thats silly. Do you believe that the same people who spoke out against that actor were the SAME people that pushed the Minister (you are referring to Ted Haggard, who was a church leader not a senator) into rehab? If you can make that logic jump then anyone can call you a terrorist. Muslims blew up stuff, you are muslim, hence you support it and are a part of it. No? Of course not. That guy went into rehab because of his church and his personal beliefs. They were all americans, but no, not the same people. I'm not sure if you live here? I get the impression you do not. You must consider that America is pretty unique, culturally speaking. I can walk down the street and in a 10 minute span walk past people from Japan, China, Korea, Nigeria, Mexico, Poland, Russia, South Africa, India, Jamaica etc. Thats just in the building I work at. Not to mention those that have been in the US for several generations. There are very few places in the world where there is this level of cultural intergration and because of this there is immensely widespread opinions on any matter.

Not true- in fact one of the miracles of Jesus was the whole turning water into wine (note: not the reverse) and in fact the communion ritual involves drinking wine. Alcohol is ok in christianity so long as (as is stated in the bible) you don't become overly intoxicated. Some groups- southern baptist are perhaps most notable- chose to ban it but no alcohol is far from a universal tenet in christianity.

The correct way to have gone about it would have just to break off any trades with the dutch/italian people if they felt deeply offended. Not throw rocks at the embassies and break them down rioting in the streets.

You kind of have your timeline off a little here. The cartoon was published. Two weeks later- after no protests, no complaints and no riots, the cartoon makes it's way to a mosque in the middle east. That mosque uses it as propoganda against the west ("see how they try to desecrate our religion! GO PROTEST!") This eventually- almost THREE weeks after the acutal publication of the cartoon causes mass protests, violence and destruction. Meanwhile no one brings up the thought that hey- maybe the cartoonist had no idea that pictures of mohammad are forbidden (well, ok they actually aren't forbidden by the Koran, it's just modern repressive Wahabiist practice) and had no idea that would be taken as such. Then, after embassys are burned and evacuated and people are threatened OVER A FUCKING CARTOON, they ask for an apology and Europe doesn't really feel like giving it.

That is correct, Jesus said "your body is a temple". You could apply this to anything, not just alcohol.

The day that muslim nations denounce extremism, stop using it for political clout, stop harboring terrorist groups, stop allowing terrorist organizations to have an underground hold on the actual government like an even more fucked up mafia- the day that muslims stand up against extremism and stop making excuses for it, when the imams take a strong and public stand against it and stop giving private funding and support to it- the day that the notion of exterminating all non-muslim people is stricken from the common ideology...the day that the true believers of the *real* peaceful virtues of islam stand strong and stop allowing it to be perverted by money and power hungry thugs I will applaud them and support them as a great religion.
