yes, it's part of the curriculum.

Canada's education system really doesn't suck contrary to what the habitual whiners say. As is the case with most things, it's the ignorant opinionated people who ruin it for everyone.

Psh, the Holocaust shouldn't offend Muslims. The torture/rape of the Palestinian people by Israelis in the name of justice should.

Edit: Not to mention the US turning a blind eye to such acts by Israel

On the other hand. .who really cares?

There aren't any people alive today who worked as a slave on a plantation and before too long there won't be anyone alive who experienced WW2, much less spent time in a concentration camp.

Most muslims are just as retarded as most chrsitians and religion is their replacement for rational thought and that is nothing new. That being said there is a lot of good stuff to be found in religion and tons of totally bright and intelligent people that believe.

Countries besides the United States have just as many retarded people.. but hey throwing stones always makes people feel better because obviously THEY are more retarded than we are! These religious fanatics are no different than your average eurotrash. I do love the irony how people use American inventions to call America stupid.. electrical currents, silicon chips, networking, a la Internet

Lots of good stuff comes from around the world though so it sure would be a shame for you to miss getting to know someone who could change your life for the better because of what country they came from.

Next thing you know someone will post an article about fat people that existed before the United States.. not that that would be possible amirite?

I went to High School in the South for a while, and then moved to Southeast Asia with my dad. Both times we covered WWII and Slavery, and it was really drastically different in outside US high school.

Basically we glossed over Slavery and WWII we were the ass kickers; very much removed from world-grabbing powermongers in Asia -_-

Sorry if im misunderstanding you but are you saying it doesnt matter that we wont teach these things because no one is going to be alive that remembers the events? Im sorry but that is just insane.

In terms of slavery I dont really understand why this country makes such a huge and major deal over it. Yes we had slaves, and we fought a very large, very deadly war over it. Every other country had some form of slavery as well and in hindsight ours was by far one of the better systems, especially looking at how slaves were treated in South America.

The fact that people would stop teaching something because it offended someone else is retarded. What about evolution? That offends a ton of people so we better stop teaching that. Better stop teaching colors too incase a kid is colorblind, wouldnt want him to feel bad about himself.

There are no palestinian people, furthermore there have never been an an autonomous palestinian state. EVER! The people who call themselves palestinians are nothing more than jordanians and egyptians who were abandoned by their governments.

Also, the North is seen as the victor, no doubt about it, but they've never been put into our heads as heroes. Especially when you look at the fact that the war didn't start because of slavery, but because of economic issues, and also, near the end of the war, Sherman's march ripped up tons of land, and burned and killed livestock, and stealing food from farmhouses.
The end of slavery would have destroyed the southern economy...
No it wouldn't, slavery actually held back the southern economy. Of course, when a North Carolinian dared to write a book about it in...1851 if I'm remembering correctly, he got run out of the state (and NC was one of the more tolerant southern states). Alot of neo-confederate historians have pushed this issue of economic issues being the main cause of the war, but it's not true. It was a part, but slavery was the driving force behind it. If there hadn't been slavery, there wouldn't have been a war.

As for the Israel/Palestine situation...I was on the Palestine side until they responded to an offer of 99% of their demands with another spat of suicide bombings. It just shows their true intentions, they'll never be happy until the rest of the Arabic world uses them to wipe Israel off the face of the planet. Seriously...99% of their land demands...and instead of building a better future for their kids...they just send them off to die. Fuckers.

What they really need to teach is an unbiased view of the Israel conflict. All of USAs foreign politics the past years is based on that one conflict (or loloil) but the common westerner really knows fuck all about it's history.

i would generally side with the palestinians at least with the notion of having their own state, however, its really problematic when they want their opposition to live in the sea

I went to Highschool in Arkansas, though I did take college level History Courses, so none of the bad stuff in history that most would like to forget was sugar coated. We covered all the European juicy stuff in my AP Euro history course (Catholic church corruption, Bolshevik revolution, French Revolution, the Holocost, etc).

In my American History course we did spend quite a while on slavery and the civil rights movement. Though on the subject of the civil war, I did get this vibe from the teacher on how that the "rich" North was hoarding all the money in the country and forcing the "poor" South to succede, and that we, the South, were the victims. This was the first teacher I had had that did not try to say that slavery was the cause of the Civil War.

In college, again in Arkansas, I had two really great history professors.
One was a liberal femeninst who was a protester of Vietnam back in the day. In her class we seemed to cover, at length, many of the civil rights movements across the world, especially woman's rights movements, though predominatly in the Western hemisphere. My other professor seemed to not try to add any bias to her teaching.

Although silicon chips, networking and perhaps electrical current could be argued as American inventions, the actual concept of internet (World Wide Web) was developed by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post otherwise, this is just some nitpicking.

Oh ya.. because someone imagining documents that link to other documents is groundbreaking.

Thank you CERN for the <a> tag.

Excuse me while I go back to working on my own programming language.

Go read up on the Second Intifada jackass. A very large concession on Israel's part, and not even a counter offer before a huge wave of suicide bombings, which lead to Sharon's election. Barak was Palestine's best chance for peace, and they shat on him...they don't want peace, their leaders and the surrounding Arab states just want the conflict to continue until they can wipe Israel off the map. So go fuck yourself, and grow some balls if you're going to insult someone, instead of hiding it in tiny type.

    It is true.

Iseral deserves part of what is coming to them. There hands are not clean at all.

Everyone else in that region just wants to kill jews and anything else they say is a flat out lie. The only reason any of them care about that land at all is because jews live there. If that land had been assigned to africans after WW2 no one would of cared much less strapped a bomb to themselves

Basically you have a bunch of shitty people fighting and killing each other.

Supporting either side is supporting retardation.

Look, the main problem in the middle-east is that a big part of the arabian population doesn't accept the jewish state of Israel. Israel has never offered them 99% of their land demands. Those anti-Israel groups will "fight" over that land even if Israel would honestly try to be reasonable and make something good out of the situation.

The problem with Israel is their excessive retaliation and poor treatment of the Palestinians. This is destructive behaviour which leads to more of the arabian population joining the anti-israel side, instead of the opposite, which would be the only way to solve this conflict long-term.

There is no good side in this conflict, just lots of israeli and palestinian victims to 3000 years of history and religious bs. This conflict is not about one side shitting on some contract or something.
