I've seen BRDs with plenty worse gear who just took it to 75 to merit whore. Problem is, you take BRD to 75 and then you get stuck playing it. Easiest way to not have to come BRD 24/7 is put no time or effort into gearing it, and frankly who can blame a person for it if they never really wanted to use it in the first place except as a vehicle for getting merits for other jobs. A good team player will come as BRD anyway, but it doesn't mean they have to like it or want to pimp it out and thus make it happen more often.

BRD's with sucky gear make me sad. It's so easy to be an acceptably-geared BRD that any excuse is just weak. A lot of the gimps out there you KNOW they wouldn't even be able to merit properly. "Oh hey why am I losing HP? Oh my lullaby resisted. AGAIN."

Whenever someone asks me what job to level, I usually suggest BRD, especially if they lack a merit job. Easy to level, easy to gear, gets you good merits, and as you said, most people with it 75 don't want to be stuck on it. Thus: if everyone has it levelled, noone but the pro BRD's are stuck on it. Also, as a bonus, your LS merit pt's never lack BRD's. :D

PS: I love playing BRD at HNM, like it in meripo, salvage etc, but I wouldn't be able to stand it for sea farming, dynamis etc. Prefer slashy stabby stuff for those. :3

What really bothered me the worst was his inability to use one of the most powerful job abilities in this game.

I was thinking along the lines of "hey, if he can't use convert, he can't have ballad." What a waste of a RDM slot

I'm kinda shocked he actually bothered to cast Refresh and Haste, but he mainly did that on himself and refreshed our PLD and occasionally tossed cures. Other than that he was 100% focused on meleeing, something which other melees in that pt would beat him by doing just a FEW hits. Hell, I was tempted to dust off a couple of sniper's rings, a peacock charm, a scorpion harness, and a life belt (items me and my wife share except for the SH) and outdamage him without even trying to do so, but I just couldn't because I can't stand meleeing when my songs/pulling's 500000x more useful.

I'm convinced the damage (which was LOW as anyone'd predict) he did with his sword was caused from my melee songs - which I also tried to keep off him.

Edit: That PLD above makes me sad...

Edit #2: My pickyness of having a RDM in PT has resulted in me seeing some very amusing RDMs. At level 60 I also partied with a RDM that threatened to leave if the PLD couldn't keep hate from 500-700+ (occasional 900+) Rampages and 500-800 Tachi: Yukikazes. OMGz, PLDs can tank though anything with a single voke amirite? (I wish I had screenshotted that shit... /sigh.)

Seems to me that the RDM I pt'ed with was just picky at having to cast cure spells (which I also did with np having /whm). Then he says the NIN the PLD replaces himself with holds hate better at first but hate gets shaky just like it was beforehand with the melees owning the mobs. I feel bad for the good geared damage dealers trying to level with pickup pts... you're going to see the mob on you and then hear your healer complain especially if you're in a pt with a BRD or COR (or shit even both)... been there, seen it, dealt with it, etc.
