He is fighting Nidhogg at the time the screenshot was taken. He would melee and ws in that full time, never gear swapped anything. <_< His gear has gotten alot better but yeah.

I think you should have high-lighted the NQ staff for dramatic effect~

I actually raid with a very similar setup on my Black Mage, and I burst 1100 Aeroga III's on Kirin (0 merits). I'm not trying to derail the thread or whatever, but just sayin......not that sad.

edit: actually my gear is way worse than that. AF1 head, Mrc.Cpt. Belt (...shut up!), morion tathlum, I don't recognize those boots, etc. I just don't think BLM gear means much in terms of (survivable) output. Maybe my tanks are just the suck though.

one thing to remember, no matter how badly geared a blm, they will still be moderately effective in most situations that a very well geared blm will be. there's a reason cgf use them so extensively. they're cheap to create an effective team. still, with as much time and effort as i've spent gearing my blm it's kinda depressing to see NQ staves with an af2 hat.

Gear doesn't affect your job overtly, so you're allowed to be total crap. Its rarer to find a "career" blm out there that really knows what the hell they're doing, especially when things go to hell. We lost a PLD tank against Prudence last week, so another BLM and I managed to keep one of the twins busy while the alliance killed the second one. Not the most monumental of tasks, but I doubt most BLMs could do it.

Those are Rostrum Pumps, by the way... They could be NQ Seer's pumps as well, but I hope to god they're not...

something like that, yeah. you can tell who the well experienced, career blm are off the bat by looking at one simple thing: in dynamis, do they go to nuke the statues first or do they try to sleep first? it's really that simple. 99% of the time, you can kite any number of statues forever, wearing dusk gear, one handed, while being hit with whiffle bats over the head. it's that simple. meanwhile, a bundle of beastmen running at full till will happily turn your puller's or your tank's insides out, and if it's a group of mnks, it won't take all that long, either. good blm will see beyond the "I AM THE BLACK MAGE! I CASTS THE SPELLS THAT MAKES THE PEOPLES FALL DOWN" motif that so many new blm seem to be stuck in. a good blm will not find it below themselves to help the healers save a tank after stunning a 100 fisting mob, or to silence a scorpion before it gets off that breakga. a good blm will realize that watching that avatar and keeping stun ready if it wakes and tries to inferno mid fight is MUCH more advantageous than trying to nuke the mob that the melees can kill even faster and for less MP. /rant off
