Wow another crash and burn topic Koyangi. I won't even bother anymore, but I'd think you'd learn to just stop after awhile.

this is pretty much true. However, they are not so much striving to be polar opposites as they are being pushed. They seek to keep partisan issues alive because it raises so much money. It rallies support. In election years they don't wish to solve the problems, but campaign on them.

Also due to gerrymandering, congressional races are becoming increasingly uncompetitive (in the general election), to the point where tons of districts are unopposed. This leads to highly contested primaries where you are only pandering to your party, where you can placate your base by being 'more of a democrat/republican' than your primary opponents. This leads to more radical representatives.

You only have to look at the national races (increasingly centrist over the decades) to see that it isn't the nation that is changing and becoming more partisan, it is mostly our representatives and their hatchet-men (Ann Coulter implying high ranking Dems are gay lol).

Also about the original point of turning morality into law...

Laws were always meant to follow from our morals, so I can understand why they seek to codify their beliefs into legislation. I don't agree with faith-based laws as it violates the separation of church and state, but that has always been a gray area so its not like they are doing something that has never been done before (i.e. prohibition).

Legal does not equate to moral but laws emanate from our morality. The distinction is not obvious but it exists.

You're killing me man XD. If you in all seriousness think that age has any bearing on how useful to society as a whole a particular law may be, please see my sig. If it was the law in some ancient civilization not to steal, or murder, does that really have any less importance today? Again, I refer you to my sig.

No, they are not. They are, albeit among others, most notably Roman Catholic beliefs, learn the difference. And Roman Catholics are NOT followers of Christ, even though some churches claim to be.

Christians are supposed to be followers of Christ Jesus. Jesus was a Jew. The Jews that followed Christ Jesus became Christians. The people that call themselves Jews today, are people who do not accept that Christ Jesus, the messiah, has already come to earth, they are still waiting for him. That is my understanding, please correct me if I am wrong.

Secondly most of the Old Testament laws are only followed by die hard people who dont realize most of it has no bearing on society today.
Most of it has no bearing on society today? Even if you choose not to believe in God and follow the first couple please tell me how the following Commandments have no bearing today.

    - Honor your parents
    - You shall not murder
    - You shall not commit adultery
    - You shall not steal
    - You shall not bear false witness
    - You shall not covet your neighbor's wife
    - You shall not covet your neighbor's house

Those pretty much cover the basics of 'How to not be an asshat in modern society' quite nicely.

Maybe if more people stopped dismissing the commandments out of hand because they're "so old and outdated" things would be a bit better in modern society. They're meant to be a guideline for how to live together as civilized men and women as opposed to selfish, greedy, thieving pieces of shit.

I hate to break the news to people, but the very minute that Cortney Love gave birth, that whole "Honour thy mother and father" thing went right down the drain- no one should honor that piece of human flotsam under any circumstances.

the first commandment gets us into a little bit of trouble when talking about government.

Something Henry David Thorau would say. But yeah, all governments oppress in one form or another. We as a society need some rules we need to follow. Hell, even tribes w/o almost any contact to the outside word (hello Sepahuan tribe) need to follow their own laws. The only thing that separate us from them are: Shacks, archaic style of living, and their women parading around topless.

But the problem lies in that no government official is following a moral system anywhere near the one outlined in the bible lol. If they were, we would have no reason to ever question whether or not to obey the first commandment(applied to the gov. not parents).

Nah, not really. Sometimes I get lucky is all.

That's why I nipped the first few Commandments. They get you arguing over which God is "right", discussing politics vs. religion, and generally forgetting what's really important.

If it makes you feel better pretend Moses was just a really smart guy that realized people needed to grow up a bit and follow some basic principles if they ever wanted to coexist happily together.

'If I tell them GOD said to do these things they'll stop being such assholes and listen for a change. Then maybe we can get out of this stupid desert.'

I always wondered, if the 10 commandents were THE rules to live life by, why did they put like "Thou shall not steal" but not "Thou shall not abuse or molest children" because I always considered that more serious.

The 10 commandments give you moral codes to live by, they won't tell you everything common sense should already provide you with.

    Little late to this thread.

If Christians are following the Old Testament, they're Jews not Christians. Jesus gave Christians 2 new commandments to overwrite the 10 that Moses was given.

    Matthew 22:34-40
34 After the Pharisees heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they came together in one group. 35 And one of them, versed in the Law, asked, testing him: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 He said to him: “‘You must love your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.

Thats taken from a bible that has been translated into modern english, cause words that were used when it was written in Old English don't have the same connotation ie: its easier to understand and its more accurate.

If a Christian is trying to follow the 10 Commandments they obviously haven't read/studied the bible at all.

Not to say that the 10 commandments are obsolete, but those 2 that Jesus gave christians cover everything.

If you love god with your whole heart/soul/mind, you'll put forth the effort to live life according to what the bible says, how? By reading it and learning from the examples in it.

And, if you love your neighbour(humans in general) you won't steal from them, murder them, covet their wife, and so on.

Anyway, not completely on topic, but interesting I think, and something not too many people know .

    Actually that was totally on topic frogboiler lol. And all very true Sucks that you used a bible that removed God's name though ; ;

Out of curiosity what version did you use? That sounds exactly the same as it is written in the New World Translation used by my religion, well, except for the removal of God's name from between "you must love," and "your God"

I don't think grown adults give two shits as long as they can support themselves. The government is corrupt, the bible sucks, life is horrible. That's the basic teenage mindset. It's funny how people take stuff way to seriously.
