to melchiah:
i think they should separate those child-support~ish benefits to those with children, biological or adopted. Dont just up and grant them to anyone who gets married, just anyone with legal custody of a child.
And to that, let marriage be the ceremony it was intended, between man and woman only. Let them have their marriages that last a day (im looking at you britney). But dont let them create a lawful distinction between a different-sex household, and a same-sex one, because thats just retarded.
I dont claim to have paid attention in my government class in highschool, but really, someone should be smart enough to just make this a rule. What is there to vote about? You should be alotted benefits because you (two) gave birth to a child, but i shouldnt because i adopted one? Arent the benefits there to help the child? What does it matter whether the child was adopted, or personally concieved? I think it would help out those grandparents and aunts/uncles raising their grandchildren and nieces/nephews, respectively, too. (if they dont do that already, that is)
Actually, practically all the commandents are common sense so...Originally Posted by Kuya
I'm on board with you Niro. I just happen to live in the midst of the nigger-and-faggot hating capitol of the world, and down here we slap our bibles against the voting booths every election. It's not very likely in this part of the country to see a same-sex household be approved as a foster home or allowed to adopt on a permanent basis. Sucks but that's the way it is. I honestly don't know if a same sex household can provide the same upbringing(I was going to say rearing but thought better of it...) as a heterosexual household does, so I can't comment intelligently on that issue. But yeah, benefits for those who are supporting dependants should be there regardless of the sexual orientation. Likewise, the inverse is true for heterosexual households who don't breed. That is just like Reaganomics giving rich people more money in tax breaks so they will hire people and create jobs(which they don't, why pay some new employee with this money when you can bank it or invest it? Fuck you Reaganomics, it doesn't work because rich people are greedy fucks).Originally Posted by Nirokun!

lol, no, humans have shown over the years that they cannot follow common sense on their own. They need guidance superior to their own.Originally Posted by Kuya
And god, portrayed in the bible, isn't a big scary grandpa FYI. Popular religion makes him out that way.
One part of the bible says homosexuality is a sin. Flip to the next chapter, and the bible also says it's okay to stone your children if they're disobeying youOriginally Posted by TsingTao
Exodus 21:7 - it's ok to sell your daughter into slavery
Exodus 35:2 - anyone working on the sabbath should be put to death

taking scriptures out of context ftw ^^
No, hes right. Thats why you can't hold religion to an absolut, times change and so do the rules.Originally Posted by Swampthing

I guess someone should tell these guys they're all wrong about their bibles, it's clearly not saying what it looks like it's clearly saying
If you use it as a matter of faith, then I can't touch you, you believe whatever the hell you want and it really is none of my buisness. But if you use it as a moral code or as anything in any kind of public relations (as opposed to private beliefs), then assuming you really do believe it's the word of God and you're going to use all of it, I'm going to have to say you fail, miserably.
taking me now out of context ftw?
sigh ; ; what i mean is. times are different now, and the important thing is the principles behind the examples given to us of men that lived long ago.
Jehovah declared that the day on our earthly calendar that corresponds to his own day that he completed creating the universe, be held sacred. on the seventh day he rested, and commanded we do the same.
what i meant about taking out of context is simply that you can pull a scripture at random and think it means something it doesn't. its when we use the bible as a whole, single unit, that the scripture begin to be more easily understood. i'm not trying to say that exodus 35:2 was not saying what you think it was saying. but taking it by itself without considering why it was written down, is taking it out of context.
Religion is different from the bible. And no, there were not cars/sky scrapers in bible times, but many of the same problems.Originally Posted by Kuya
You're an idiot if you try to argue against religion by saying the old testament doesn't apply anymore.
The rules in the old testament are old law, and they are meaningless besides just looking at them for guidance in some abstract manners. The law of today according to Christianity is the new testament.
So taking scriptures from Exodus and saying omg look how wrong this is! Is just stupid. You fail. Learn about something before you go and talk about it like you do.
let me remind you, misleading people with scripture itself is a sin.
Also, I am in awe at Nirokun's reply. What a head on those shoulders. Recognizing the distinction between marriage and simply sharing financial benefits of a married couple is a true sign of intelligence.
Gay Marriage is stupid and makes no sense if you have half a brain.
Gay couples being allowed to have the same financial benefits as a heterosexual couple makes perfect sense though and that's how it should be. They should be able to practice the same things a man and a woman can in our state, not the church.
If you're arguing for gay marriage I hope you're not also arguing for separation of church and state - -'
Okay Magus, explain to us why gay marriage is stupid.
Also, he was pointing out what you just said, by posting those scriptures. I think you should read more before posting. Clearly, the point he was making was that old testament verses were no longer directly relevant, and so the verse pertaining to homosexuality must also be put within the same framework.

If you can't see the contradiction that is gay marriage then god, I don't know.Originally Posted by Jimmayus
Marriage, in the sense people refer to in America, is a christian concept; why would a gay couple want to get married when Christianity obviously doesn't allow that kind of lifestyle? Gay couples who want gay marriage are either ignorant or delirious. Wanting equal rights in the state, and being able to legally become joint under the state, whatever that process is, by a judge, makes much more sense.
I hate arguing religion with people because everybody thinks they're right and nobody wants to just shut the fuck up and stop insulting other people's religions.
This legal joint you speak of has a title. It is called marriage.Originally Posted by Maguspk
