I always figured that if I had an e-friend pass away, and someone told me, they'd be the same person. Pics or it didn't happen.

Sorry for your loss, and i had two similar occasions.
One was one galka named Inmortalhill, he told us he was diagnosed with cancer... after a few months we never saw him log in again, not even a single word of goodbye from him. This was 2 years ago, and im still afriad he might be dead.
The other case was when a friend, also in FFXI, not gonna mention names, threatend to kill himself over a girlfriend. This had me really worried for a long time.
The reality is you wouldn't know if most people died.
People vanish all the time and you never think twice about it. It is possible some of the ones you never hear from anymore are dead![]()

Nowadays, Halie is more remembered for his bad habit of meleeing in full hecatomb.....on dragoon.
On an semi-related, yet topically unrelated note, I was reading that Halie thread and noticed this post:

Yes I realize this is stupid, but I found it kinda funny
One of my close friends posted his suicide note on his myspace page.... none of us read it until two days later. His mother found his body.
He played MMO?Originally Posted by jaryk

In most cases, would you even know your online friend died? I mean no one I know in real life knows I play this game, so if I died no one would find out, they would just think I quit without a word like many other people have.

I knew a person in our ls a long time ago (I was good friends with a friend of his). She told me that his character was logged on all the time and was worried about him. I'd search him and found him in the same place day after day... She called him and she was told he had a heart attack and was hospitalized, where he died >< I spoke with him a bunch of times, it just feels weird ;/

I would, pretty easily. I still keep in touch with people I played Socom with in '02. Most of us go from game to game and join the same clans, we still post on the same forums, etc. Hell I still have most of their numbers from back in the day (read; 8th graders-Freshmans) which we would share so we could contact each other for late night clan matchesOriginally Posted by Gero
First guy I ever partied with on FFXI died of heart complications a bit over a year ago.
Apparently he was sick for a long time.
He was a real popular guy on Cerberus, good to pretty much everyone.
I was with the same clan since 02, and we just now finally broke apart with the New Year, it's weird at first but you get over it.Originally Posted by blister1

I've had two RL friends, who I played MMO's with, die.
The first was actually the ex-partner of a close friend of mine, and we had played EQOA together for about a year; he died from "accute & chronic alcohol poisoning." Basically drank so much over several months that it shut off oxygen to his brain. When he was found, it was like he passed away in his sleep, not like anything violent. Really sucked having to get that phone call (was the morning of a Friday the 13th), and then having to let some RL friends know, because the guy was really sweet, had been really hospitable when people were in his area, and a great guest when he was in town.
The second was a guy I knew from the local music scene, met him about nine or ten years ago. He did the PS2 FFXI beta, and had told me about the game, so when it came out on release he put his account on the same server that me and some RL friends were planning to play on. He played the game a bit here and there, never hardcore delved in to it, but I'd see him out at parties and clubs occasionally, and see him pop online every once in a while.
In late February 2006 he committed suicide, OD'd on medication he was taking. Had recently broken up with a girl, was in and out of work. Went to the wake, was really surreal since we knew a ton of the same people from the music scene, and in his casket they had a bunch of his favorite things like a baseball cap, fliers from events he Dj'd at, a CD with some tracks of his released on it (he had some stuff on a movie soundtrack back in 2003 or so), some tools from working on cars and a copy of FFXI... which shook me up some. Anyways, in game he was pretty low key, but it turned out some of my LS-mates had him friend listed after meeting him in the dunes and jungles, so it was strange telling them how he had recently passed away.
