OP is the best shounen currently. It will be epic when it ends. Except that I don't see it ending in the next 10 or 20 years.

Hell, it's the best shounen since DBZ and DBZ is the best only because of nostalgia.

naruto/bleach/OP/dbz for shonen and shit from tsubasa/ccs makers, galaxy angel, full moon, etc for shoujo

I dunno about *best* given varying personal tastes and all, but it's certainly very very good.

Seconded...read the manga, watch the anime after. It's pretty close to the manga for what it shows, but it only shows part of a much larger story...and ends prematurely at that.

For the people saying not to watch One Piece, are you referring to the piece-of-absolute-fucking-trash-translation that airs on US TV? If you are, that's not One Piece, that's something else entirely.

I second stuff like Cowboy Beebop, FMA, NGE, FLCL, etc.

I also really liked Record of Lodoss War, in spite of all the wind-through-the-hair that goes on. :D

anyway, some of the newer animes just starting to air in april that you could follow (in the order i like em):

Heroic Age (if you like mecha/futuristic settings)

Seto no Hanayome (if you are into those old school jap comedy shows)

Kissdum Engage Planet (another mecha/sifi with somewhat weird plot)

Romeo + Juliet (yep... anime version... fantasy setting... and from gonzo... but the animation quality is pretty good)
