Speaking of translations, does anyone know if there is hellsing manga translated into english past #48? I have only been able to find translations past that into German or Russian.

Interesting idea about the. Although I'm pretty sure right near the end there's a flashback all the way to Light's room talking to Ryuk, where he says "You're telling me there is no afterlife, aren't you." And Ryuk replies "I thought all Humans needed to believe in an afterlife." Besides, the DN world is almost completely Lovecraftian, so I wouldn't assume there's any kind of afterlife there.
Like I said before, I think the second half of DN can be divided into about 3 more arcs: the kidnapping part, the third Shinigami showing up part, and the rest of it. The first two of these were still solid, and then the third one was too slow and boring. So overall, the second half was still enjoyable. If you think about it, Mikami and that other lady showed up right near the end and didn't have a chance to do much other than be thrown away by Light. A bit of a waste, since both characters had some good potential.
Oh, and by "discredit", I meant to the rest of the world, not the 4 guys from the Kira team.

Mikami and that chick showed up when Near was about to catch Misa again, hence why he had to find more people to help his cause. I wasnt a big fan of Mikami, but I didnt think his presense didnt make sense om that context.
Sorry, misunderstood what you meant by discredit. I dont think Light was worried about the "whole world". If he was winning that night, I'm under the impression he would have been accepted by everyone after as Kira. The poll where in his favor already, and the whole world was starting to accept him. The only obstacle remaining was Near (and the other policeman he betrayed). If he wasnt taking care of them asap, he would have been caught (assuming he wanted to get his freedom to act back)
Letting Near knows about the truth to lure him was a clever way to kill him imo. Actually, I still think that plan was better than the one he used to kill L.
i love you in a totally platonic not creepy way thank youOriginally Posted by GRT
"Blackmail the President" might be cliche, but that doesn't mean I've seen it a lot. And I thought Near figured it out for himself before Light even knew about him. All Light did at the end was agree to the showdown and trust that he hadn't figured out everything about Mikami's role.
I know, it's more like a pet peeve than anything. Either way, seeing him control USA president was needed to understand he is controlling the world.Originally Posted by Charla
Light accepted the showdown knowing Near was doing this to get the proof he was the killer, and he planned to use that at his advantage. That's what I meant.
With Mikami busted, he would lose his Death Note soon after if Near wasnt killed. Light had to do something quick if he wanted to keep the Death Note and keep his "God" status, that's why he played Near's "game" until the end. He was suposed to get busted, but 50seconds later, Near would be dead, so it did not matter.
It's 40 seconds! And like you said, he expected to get both himself and Mikami found out, but it wouldn't matter. Now, Light never would have taken that kind of a risk against L without analyzing every possibility and coming up with a contingincy plan (like he did in solitary earlier). So, like we've both been saying until now, he's slowly been growing overconfident since then, and to me that's a bit of a disappointment. Light being a strategic super-genius was a big part of what was so great about DN for me, and he could have stayed that way and still lost in the end.
Of course, the L fanboys had already written off the whole series long before, so maybe Ohba/Obata wanted to cut their losses and move on.

THE BLACK DUELIST PLAYS WITH A GUN
LOL
My bad, 40sec then ;p I still don't think Light's plan was less strategic than other before, it's Mikami who screwed up, but he had no choice since Light told him he had his hand tied, and that chick had to be killed.Originally Posted by Charla
What would have happened if L had looked in Light's trash and saw the TV? What would have happened if Rem or Higuchi(?) wouldnt have reacted exactly the way he wanted (like Mikami didnt react like he wanted). What would have happened if L had checked Light's watches like he should have done when he was sent to jail (and find the paper that allow him to see Ryuk), or installed micro outside the building (where Light talked to Misa). It's not like Light never overlooked detail that could have put a stop to his quest. He eventually got busted for something stupid, but there was no other way to catch him really, since most of his plan worked in theory. I'm not sure what kind of ending people wanted, because the only way to kill Light is when he would commits a mistake.
Light's only mistake was to say he had his "hand tied" to Mikami, which is why it created a confusion when the chick got kidnaped. Is it something the 1st arc Kira would have overlooked? Probably. For everything else, Near was in position of power imo, and didnt give much choice to Kira
I dont think the series was suposed to be much longer than this. Adding another arc to it would make it become redundant, and playing cat and mouse for too long with Light and L would get old eventually because story wouldn't progress.Of course, the L fanboys had already written off the whole series long before, so maybe Ohba/Obata wanted to cut their losses and move on
With that said, I'm heading to bed. I dont think any of us will change their opinion today![]()

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge
both are currently 2 animes I'm watching, both funny as hell (each in their own way)
the story after TSR are going to be very different, much more serious than the school yard comedy you've seen in the anime so farOriginally Posted by SathFenrir
but they are really good too so
if you want the comedy though, there are tons of short stories you could look up, the author writes them in between main story volumns... although i'm not sure there's any english translations of them yet (other than the ones in fumoffu anyway)
Gintama is a great silly anime for those that want to laugh really hard. Only this series could make an entire episode about being "nabe shogun" and have it turn out hilarious. XD
