Very Dark Video Files

Not sure what's wrong, but when I try to play any of my video files in any of my Video file players (VLC, Windows MEdia Player, Real Media Player, etc.), the Video appears so dark that you can barely even make it out. It was like this for some reason before I reformatted my Computer. After reformatting, videos appeared normal, it recently got dark again, and can't be made out. Video files on Youtube work fine though, and while I can't be sure, but I think the sudden change of darkness of my video files corresponded with one of Microsoft's Windows update crap (Curse you Microsoft!) But once again, I can't be sure. Any help is appreciated, as I suck with computers!

Chances are your media players have an overlay enabled as default. Disable the overlay and you should see a standard brightness.

Nvidia card? If you go in the control pannel, you can set the brightness, gamma, contrast, ect in there. By default it's usually really low for some odd reason.
