Umm, I'd say that illegal hiring and unethical business practices are the "threats" or "large concerns." I'm still going to say that declaring illegal immigration the largest threat the country faces is xenophobic. Sorry, but I'm in a state with Minute Men and propositions to ban spanish from elementary schools and government documents, and little effort to hold employers accountable at all. It's kind of horseshit. But illegal immigration (and the exportation of American jobs) is still a large concern and not the same thing as xenophobia and racism.
because 5000 people a day walking into this country illegally, without anyone knowing who they are, is not a threat? Give me a fucking break. There is a reason there are borders and laws for immigration and *gasp* its not xenophobiaOriginally Posted by Beckwin
ORly could of argued his point better if he brought up things like his lack of drivers license and insurance. These are normal responsbilities of citizens that are ignored by illegals because they're difficult to obtain for being here illegally in the first place.
Edit:
Since everyone hates both these guys, it must not be an important issue, so let's have snoop dogg handle it.
Illegal Immigration, Drunk Driving MADNESS!!
I'm with Geraldo!
yeah they must all be terrorists and drug dealers. we're talking about illegal immigrants, not combatants and smugglers. assuming that any significant number of those 5000 are either is well... pretty xenophobic. We're talking primarily about poor Mexican laborers, and you're trying to compare it to the thousands of American lives lost (and that will continue to be lost) in Iraq and the potential threats of North Korea and Iran going nuclear. Not to mention legitimate environmental concerns like ozone depletion and southwestern aquifers :/because 5000 people a day walking into this country illegally, without anyone knowing who they are, is not a threat? Well then hell, let's tear down the border, they only are good for us anyways right!? It's never the majority we are worried about, always the minority. Seeing the potential harm just 1-10 people could cause, out of the 1 million coming over in a year, is reason enough to do something drastic at the border, not to mention the myriad of other concerns. The reasoning behind not throwing open the border and wanting to keep illegal immigrants out is the same.

LOL @ wiki. Maras (salvadorian term for gang) hate mexicans like nothing, from the years I have living in Los Angeles (20) I have yet to see a Mexican in a mara salvatrucha. I'm not saying it can't happen, just that Wiki portrays them as being Mexican too. Anyways, even in El Salvador they have like deathsquads killing off these 'vermin.' An yeah, all those maras are being deported to their country.Originally Posted by Septimus

And it looks like the FBI is putting considerable resources to handling MS, which is a hell of a lot more reasonable way to deal with gang violence than building The Great Wall of Texas.
There will never be airtight borders in this country. Do you ever think that action towards employers and making it easier for people who want to work and live here getting citizenship could help more than a militarized border? Seems a hell of a lot more practical as well. But no, lets just close off the country entirely. Can't let the terrorists and druglords win, isolation is the only option.
By the way, the 9/11 hijackers managed legal entry into the country :/
I just did it because it was faster than trying to hunt down a bunch of news articles for them. Also, who said that our porous borders only allows one nationality though?Originally Posted by Meteora

Correction, there has never been a airtight border in any country.Originally Posted by Ryko

Nobody is saying we want a open border, in fact that has little to do with the topic at hand. Bill is just, once again, using scare tactics to sway the public to his agenda, and apperently it works on you, unless you're a republican, then nvm. Again stop trying to say inciting or demostrating fear of immigrants is not xenophobia, its the very definition of the word.
you and I both know nothing ever gets done in the realm of politics unless:
A) The public is completely outraged
B) There is a tragedy
C) There is massive amounts of lobbying
Seeing as we dont want to see a B, and there is no way in hell we would ever see C regarding this issue, I dont see why trying to get an uproar in the public is such a bad thing in moving toward change. Time and time again at the polls americans across all states favor heavy enforcement of immigration laws and illegal immigrant employment laws. The fact of the matter is, nothing will get done in this area unless the public finally gets pissed off enough about it. Trying to get a reaction and a fire in americans over this is not such a terrible thing to do...
Bill O'Reilly is a lot of things, but he is no xenophobe. The race card is such blatant bullshit it makes me sick. Xenophobia is the fear of. If being against ILLEGAL immigration is being xenophobic, I suppose about 60-70% of americans (iirc from recent polls) are xenophobes.
I'm not even sure why I'm arguing with you seeing as you are already a closed minded asshole. I like this kind of discussion, and really don't mind arguing points back and forth. Blanket arguments are what I hate though, and you certainly made one.
Dear lord, do you not get irony?I'm not even sure why I'm arguing with you seeing as you are already a closed minded asshole.
You don't see whats wrong with trying to control the masses through fear? Wow nice one.I dont see why trying to get an uproar in the public is such a bad thing in moving toward change.
racist =! xenophobeThe race card is such blatant bullshit it makes me sick.
I'm pretty sure you're not a racist, but if you are actually afraid of immigrants, how can you NOT be a xenophobe? If you're not afraid of illegal immigrants, then forgive my asumption, but thats what i got from your posts. It's not xenophobia. Open your fucking eyes. I'm not a racist, or a bigot
Now lets work on the you being close minded bit. Here we have a prime example of scare tactics, trying to instill fear of illegals in the American populace, which is exactly what Bill is doing. Now for some reason you seem to be ignoring this, hell you even agreed that it was a good idea.I've said it once and I'll say it again: Illegal immigration is the biggest threat facing the United States today. Bigger than the war, bigger than lolglobal warming. We lose the war on the border, we lose the country
So again, argueng that illegal immigrants in the US is bad, and convincing people of it, is obviusly ok. But trying to make people afraid of foreigners(sp?) is bad, i don't know how else to make you understand that.
how am I using fear? By saying its a grave problem? idk where this is coming from. Bill is the same here...he didn't say anything other than it's an illegal immigrant issue, yet he is using scare tactics?
Bottom line: I believe illegal immigration is a gigantic concern for the USA, so apparently I'm a xenophobe

Hi wall, how are you today?
That is most preposterous and retarded comment I've heard. Protip: All Americans except those of Native American descent come from families who immigrated here. I agree they need to come through legal means but that is by far NOT the reason why countries have borders. We have borders because typically it is because of cultural boundries. US immigration policy is woefully inadequate for that very reason because most people and politicians FAIL to recognize that America is a melting pot of cultures. The issue at hand was not his immigration status (illegal, legal, whatever) but that those girls were killed because the man was driving drunk. Its all about cause and effect. You drink and drive and eventually kill someone because of your sheer stupidity, it is your fault because you committed that crime, not becauce you are a naturalized, legally migrated or illegal citizen.Originally Posted by Demosthenes11
