The reason this story was picked out was because the man happened to be illegal, yes.
    Glad you agree.

Other people were killed that night by drunk drivers? Great! I guess nobody cares about them because nobody in the media covered it, including Geraldo.
Ex-fucking-actly. People die from relatively mundane causes every day and the vast majority of those deaths do no make national news. Large numbers of illegal immigrants enter and remain in the country, but there isn't a news story for each and every one of them. This DRUNK DRIVING story is only being talked about by Bill because it creates a negative image of illegal immigrants, which he can use to support his political views.

The fact is, those deaths would have been prevented, along with who knows countless others, if the law had been originally followed. It's not even hard to understand...sure other people are killed by drunk drivers, but when there is such an easy step to prevent specific cases like this...THAT is why Bill is outraged...
Sorry, that line of thought doesn't quite work because we're dealing with a pretty broad classification of people. How many molestations could've been prevented if we banned Catholicism 40 years ago? How many lives could've been saved and health problems averted if we kept going with Prohibition and managed to stop bootlegging? Shit, how many deaths could've been prevented if we decided that the second ammendment only applied to militias? Not every Catholic clergyman molests people, not every alcohol drinker is malignant, not every gun owner shoots people, and not every illegal immigrant kills people.

I guess you're gonna keep believing that it's fine and dandy for Bill to use an everday non-exclusive tragedy to pursue his agenda (which is exactly what Geraldo called his dumb ass out on), whatever.

i am not hah, but i think your "negative thoughts" are misdirected.

    in this instance,

    drunkdrivers, bad
    illegal immigrants, irrelevant

but come down to it, i agree with everyone, including yourself, that illegal immigration is a major issue worth our time and efforts to have it reconciled.

    Undocumented is a euphemism, buddy.

    1. (Belief in) P (Plug in w/e group of people here) leads to bad consequences (Stereotype).
    2. Where the bad consequences are irrelevant to the falsity of P.
    3. Therefore, P is false.

    Example:

    1. (Belief in) P (Italian husbands) leads to bad consequences (wife beater).
    2. Where the bad consequences are irrelevant to the falsity of P.
    3. Therefore, P is false.

    I give up lol ; ;

great, now it's gotten down to the real loony stuff: comparing Catholicism to Illegal Immigration, or illegal immigration to alcohol

You leave out 1 important point...all of those things are legal, except ILLEGAL immigration. There is more than "I HATE FOREIGNERS" behind not wanting 20 million undocumented people here

I wasn't discussing legality or comparing any of those things I mentioned; I was just pointing out the failure applying preventative thinking when it comes to generalities.

were you dropped on your head as a child? seriously? all he did was connect dots. If that is loony, any logical thinking is loony.

This is why your 'arguments' don't make any damn sense. The examples I gave you were illogical, jesus, so it was O'rreilly's GAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. .. f this.

/tag Beck, you're fking in, I give up trying to reason with this guy.

your arguments fail because Bill wasn't saying Illegals are drunk drivers. End of story. No stereotypes or generalities were made

Too bad our drunk driving laws aren't like Singapores... From what I hear, if you're arrested for a DUI, its execution by a firing squad. If only US employed that law then none of this would ever happen!

But imo, I think he should've been deported the first time he was arrested for a DUI. Its negligance on the part of the police or INS (Or whatever its called), so our tax money gets put to good use for once =/

I think you two are missing the argument in whole. Your obsessed about the drunk driving part when it really has nothing to do with O'Rielly's outrage.

He picked up the story because it was of an illegal who had committed several crimes, been arrested/convicted of those crimes, and was not deported/in prison. The actual nature of the crime is largely pointless to his outrage at the way in which the city handle's illegals. If every thing remains the same except he killed the girls in a robbery, O'Rielly would have still picked it up. But not because of anything to do with the robbery, because he was allowed to commit more crimes after being arrested/convicted several times before.

To use your example of Pot and Child Molesters, its not how you put it. It is:
If the cities anti-drug unit arrested/convicted a known child molester selling pot at a middle school, and NEVER arrested him for violating the law against being near kids. And he later molests and kills a girl at a middle school, you are saying no one should use the case to put light on the anti-drug units failure to arrest him for being near children. Because its ONLY about child molestation and that happens all the time!

(And no being here illegal is not an implicit fact that you are going to commit a crime, like no child molesters near kids. However being a known criminal does make your committing another crime and explicit danger)

That is what O'Reilly is trying to do with this case. He is not saying illegals are going to come up here and get drunk and kill people. He is using the case to say that our system is so broken that people who illegally come here and commit crimes, ANY crimes, are allowed to remain and commit MORE.

    Edit(clarification)
