I just finished my last class today for my Bachelors in Computer and Networking Administation and Engineering, and the teacher after the exam was talking about education %s and such, and mentioned that the USA is falling behind other countries, namely to the east. He said technology is too blame mostly and that people arnt pushed to go to college anymore and that our society is more lax.

I was curious and was wondering what the general educatial level of BG is.

What do you think about the purpose of education and how important or not important it is?

They had this article the other day and something like 80% of people with bachelor of computer science degrees couldn't write a program that looped to 100 and printed "fizz" on numbers divisible by 3, "buzz" on numbers divisible by 5, and "fizzbuzz" on numbers divisible by both.

Most universities have become greedy organizations who will hand out a degree to anyone willing to pay the money for it so their degrees are practically pointless to have.

I graduated from High School last year and took a year off because I didn't know what I wanted to do in college, but I did know I didn't want to waste money. Starting this October at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Video Production which is only an Associates degree, so I voted High School.

I am still in College (second year). I am a Computer Science major going for my Bachelors in Computer and Network Security. I will try to double major with Computer Engineering.

Thanks. Well.. since your are working on the next level of eduation, I guess it would be alright to mark what youre currently in school for. Its kind of inspecific on purpose, but be honest about it.



And yeah, I do agree about the schools just taking your money and not caring, its very true. But then again, top end companys like to see that piece of paper. Sure some people get lucky with just a HS or Associates, but it's hit and miss.

Hmm, was going for Electrical Engineering, then switched to Computer Engineering, then Computer Science But probably I'll bite the bullet and go for computer engineering since I took all those physics classes and shit ;(

Btw, does anybody know what the hell a computer engineer does? Like how a day would be? Do they deal with circuitry all day or just drive a convertible all day with a hot chick?

Gonna be a schoolteacher hopefully, when I graduate in about a year. So, yeah I'm supposed to think education is THE most important thing. I just absolutely hate old teachers though. Because most of them were trained in the Jurrasic period when the universally accepted method for teaching was "sit down, shut up, and learn". No interaction, just lecture. So boring. I feel you really gotta do everything you can to hold their interest. Not just teach, teach to create understanding.

For my education, I'm at associate level in college I guess. Second-third year in college after taking a short break to see how crappy the real world is.
