I don't know what are people's experiences when they were in college. But for me, college is the lol'est period of my education history.
I always striving to get average, or above average during elementary, jr.high, and sr.high, but not in College. It's so easy to get A in college.

Now I feel better in university. I have to work harder to get "average".

After reading, I agree that you can be a good *anything* if you use google as a search tool for learning. What I have to say might be a bit contradicting but you can't use it as a point to point solution for everything when it comes to the real world. In the real world, you need to know your shit.

With that said, to add more, In the real world, your employer (depending on what you're writing) isn't going to give a shit if you are using google as a point of reference to speed up something he wants you to do, He just wants it done as fast as possible because time = money.

If you tell him it's going to take longer than usual because you're trying a different approach at it rather than building a working sample and improving it down the road... you're going to find yourself on the unemployment line really quick getting replaced by Omad Bin Hamar from India.

The part I love the most is how the sooner you get the company depending on your crap the sooner you reach that oh so lovely point where it becomes more expensive to fire you than to keep paying you.

I will say though talking more about degrees, I did minor in accounting and that helped a crapload especially since every company I have worked for was into business and not abstract math.

Pipelining and caching and stuff reached the point of diminishing returns first, so after that we started seeing a bit more progress resulting from developments in the materials used. And eventually we'll reach severely diminishing returns in that too.
