gotta love people who think sushi is better then meat. lol. Meat is so much better with proper gear. Unless you have kick attack merits, Fume Sune-Ate are your best bet. Don't get me wrong, Dune Boots are kick ass, just not as useful if you dont have merits.

Even without kick attacks merits, Dune Boots are an amazing DoT enhancement. 3% haste will never give you anything close to that. No matter if you use meat or sushi.

    AF2 + /WAR + Countertanking + Colibri = WIN.

And did i mention they have DEX? DEX IS SO FUCKING AWESOME. <3DEX

Also- for WS it really depends on your other gear/rings/food. Its all about a balance of STR/ACC/ATK you want as much as possible wherever you can get it, some different combos often yield similar effects.

And i dont have dune boots ....... But i like countering ^_^

Odd. I rarely ever party with MNKs that use Dune Boots.

I don't have Byakko's haidate, so I TP in Melee Hose and Dune Boots, with 4 Kick merits. If I need more accuracy, I switch to Shura Haidate, but I keep the Dune Boots on since my only other option is AF2.

Once I get Byakko's, I'll probably get Fumas and see how they work.

I could have sworn that the general consensus was that MNK's best TP armor for feet was Dune Boots, to the point that I haven't even seen anything else mentioned, and that whoever wears fuma on MNK that has Dune Boots is a fool.

Fumas are Utsu macro for micro-managing MNKs only. Dune for TP, w/e with STR Att or Acc for WS.

    You're asking the question backwards
Honnestly I'd like to see Fuma outperform Dune...

Dune Boots > Usukane Sune-ate > Fuma > Taru/Mithra/Hume RSE/RSE2 for TPing (Merits. Fumas for long fights)

Usukane Sune-ate > Taru/Mithra/Hume RSE/RSE2 > D.feet (place higher if you need ACC for AF) for WS.

Dune Boots is one of very few MNK pieces that increases your DMG almost exponentially by itself.

Kick Attacks II (the Job Trait) is thought to be 10%.

Without merits, 10% of attack rounds will have a kick. That's 10 kicks for 200 punches (without merits).

With dune boots, the damage from my average kicks roughly triples, but for the sake of argument (and because I have to resort to eyeballing the figures) we'll say that it doubles the damage. You've just increased your damage 2x, for your kicks (effectively getting 10 extra attacks per 200 punches [or per 100 attack rounds]).

With merits, you have a base of 15%, getting 15 of every 100 rounds, and your damage exceeds 15 extra attacks with Dune boots.

With Merits and AF2 Legs, you have a base of 20% attacks, and Dune boots would effectively give you 20 more attacks for every 200 punches.

The 3% haste from Fumas will give you 7/256ths faster attacking (not counting the recast timer modifications, as that is a seperate issue that can be easily remedied with Utsusemi macros). It has been awhile since it's been discussed, but the effect of 3% haste is very limited within merit parties due to the rapid nature of the fights, nd the fact that someone with /autotarget on will easily have more attacks than someone without, the 3% haste is usually looked at only when stacking with the rest of the haste gear.

With a standard end-game MNK setup, 3% haste added to the usual 22% (Turban+Haidate+Black belt) will cap your gear haste, but will not make or break your character's ability to kick ass. Dune boots, on the other hand, will add a noticeable boost to your DoT. Plus you can crit your already-enhanced kick attacks for even more damage.

Haste is nice, everyone loves haste. But you can't really compare the tiny boost 3% haste can offer, to the enhancement offered by Dune Boots, really.

To add onto the above, think of it this way:

Would you really wear 3% haste over another piece of equipment that adds 30 base damage to your weapon 15% of the time, nearly tripling the damage you would've hit for without it?

Only if the weapon (boots) in question look WAY better than hooker boots. Than maybe God Dune boots are so fugly...I don't even know what outfit SE thought they would complement.

Dunes are best (aside from Usukane Sune-ate) in most situations because the haste does little when the mob dies in a few rounds, but there's some exaggeration as to the real damage ratio between using them and not using them is.

Base HTH DMG with meritted skill is 35. With a Weapon Rank of 0, fSTR cap is 8 for an effective total of 43 base DMG when fSTR caps, max crit 129.

The wiki says Dunes are DMG+30, but for them to actually behave like a HTH weapon for kicks, the DMG should actually be +27, which results in a weapon rank of 3, for a fSTR cap of 11. Effectively that means the base DMG including fSTR is the same, it just means you need more STR to cap the kick fSTR. I didn't actually test this, it wouldn't be all that hard to do though, just separate the kick mode number from the punch mode number against something where your punch fSTR isn't capped and see if the mode is +9 or +12 (compared to Destroyers, with relic it would be +4/+7).

Anyway regardless of whether its +30 maintaning weapon rank 0 or +27 weapon rank 3, the effective total base DMG is 73 (35+8+30 or 35+11+27) for a max crit of 219.

    73/43 = 1.698

So they provide a 70% damage increase to kicks, not double or triple. The only way you get to a ratio that drastic is when comparing the crit cap with non-crits, which isn't exactly fair accurate. The exact ratio will vary a little bit depending on fSTR, but its still not gonna be too far from that amount.

Seems like a lot more exp.

I'll use Melee Gaiters sometimes if I find the extra damage isn't needed and it could help save MP (plus <3 countering), and my kicks will do a measily 30-60 damage buffed depending on the mob. Then putting on Dune again kicks fly up to 90-130 damage buffed.

It's not like I'm not geared properly or anything either. The last PT I was in my melee average was 94, which seems to be close to as high as it gets bar a few upgrades.
