    * Magic Accuracy +3

Why you would weaponskill in anything other than these or Usukane is beyond me. STR+3 And ACC+5, Asuran's random misses with attack food could use the accuracy.
Because everybody has these, amirite ?

Of course Denali Gamashes and Usukane Sune-ate are very good pieces of gear, and significant improvements over the pieces I listed above. But they're not exactly easy to obtain for the moment, if you think about it.
<3myDenaliGamashes! Denali and Usukane are by far the best WS Feet for MNK but neither are exactly easy to get. Denali is much easier but you still need a competant group of people and some luck on the drops.

I am dying to get Usukane though. Seeing as Fuma/Dunes are pretty close now a days, imo, I think Usukane would beat out Dunes nicely.

A bit confused from what people are saying btw; Do Melee Gaiters need to be equipped full time for the effect or just swapped in? I always thought/felt they just had to be swapped in but people talking about sometimes they use them full time, I think? I wouldn't see a point in using them full time if you only had to swap them in to gain the boost to CS. The Alla thread indicated you just needed to swap them in as well, albeit it was a small sample but seemed pretty good. Not sure if I Just mis-understood people or not.

Nobody seems to know for sure, I've seen various tests with no conclusive results. I just swap them in/out in my counterstance macro in the hope it helps.

Following the logic for most of the relic armor's effects, it would make sense that it only remains if equipped full time.

Yes, that's been suspected in tests I've seen, but I'm yet to see a definitive answer. I don't think it'd be the only piece that doesn't need to stay equipped when activating a JA.

The last test I read that I trusted (back in '06) stated that there was no obvious difference in Counter rates when comparing Full-time wear to Macro-wear.

If I can find the old thread (I think it was lolAlla, but may have been copy/pasta'd to KI) I'll post it.

    Re: Monk feet armor

Does anyone have the proof that the enhancement affects counter rate, btw ?

I remember reading, among other theories, that the effect was giving less or no TP to the mob on countered hits.

Yes, because doing an assault you can do at the lowest assault rank 4 times and killing a turtle/faf/behe that is easily tanked as monk is so incredibly hard to do.... now getting something to drop (0/30+ on goliard feet ;x)

You think it's easy, I think it's easy but guess what, it's harder then we think. Plenty of people ask me how we got to F80 cause they can barely get through through floors sometimes. Not everyone can find 5 other competant people to Farm F20 Nyzul until they get their Gamashes.

What? Like half the Relics are swap in and half are leave on so that's a horrible statement. Personally, the very first time I ever used them I saw a noticable increase in my Counters and all I did was swap them in. I've always just swapped them in and although I never parse my countering, it seems like I counter pretty damn well.

All of regualr MNK Af is swap in so really if I would expect it to follow it's Job's AF traits over other Jobs' AF2 traits.

    Re: Monk feet armor

There was a recent post on KI, I think, that had to do with the counter rate from AF2 and whether they had to be left on or not.

I was trying to find it to link but either I am blind or looking in the wrong place because I couldn't find it again.

Anyways, the test had 3 samples of 100 mobs each, one without af2, one with af2 on full time, and one with it only swapped in. (counterstance active in all tests)

The test ended up showing that the counter rate without af2 was around 52%, and each of the other 2 tests had a counter rate of around 62%, seeming to indicate the bonus was a +10 counter while using counterstance. They did not do any comparative testing to see whether the bonus could be percent based or not, I think they were specifically curious about a different part of the counterstance numbers using af2, and since I can't find the post I can't explain that exactly. But the information above should be relevant I suppose.

I did three more tests on the second page of that thread with similiar results: Melee Gaiters give +10% Counter while Counterstance is active, and the enhancement to Counterstance remains even after Melee Gaiters are removed.

    Re: Monk feet armor

Hmm, glad I read that alla link, I hadn't seen that data before. It's pretty convincing then that melee gaiters = +10 counter chance on counterstance (much like crown = +10 acc on focus, feet = +10 evasion on dodge, etc)

However, now I wonder--is there a counter rate cap?
    Consider the following setup:
    Merits (+5)
    Macro-Melee Gaiters (+10)
    Spharai (+10)
    Temple Hose +1 (+3)
    Usukane Gote (+2)
On top of counterstance, which gives roughly a 45% chance to counter, this brings us to 75% chance to counter.

    You can add:
    Counter Earring (+5)
    HQ Raesetsu feet/body/head (+3)
    Kampfer Ring (+2 in yellow)
    Kampfer Earring (+5 in red)
Muscle Belt +1 (+2 in yellow)

for another +18, or 93% chance to counter. Of course, using a Kampfer Earring is kinda impractical, Counter Earring has limited charges, and raesetsu gear is shitty for DD...

Has anyone tried to reproduce Almalexia's results? Not that her tests aren't convincing - just that, from my experience, all "Enhances xxx" effect on other AFv2 armor only remains effective whlie the armor is still being worn (right?).

Not true. Pld AF2 feet can be macro'd in for the full benefit to sentinel. I believe others can be too but am not 100% sure of any others.

I can confirm macroing PLD AF2 feet for the split second you activate Sentinel and then switching back to whatever feet you were using prior works.

Quite the contrary, ONLY the war relic acts this way.
